Everything was going great.
Keyword: was.
With the members' little plan, two things seemed to happen at the same time.
The first thing was: Jungkook spent a lot more time with his favourite hyung; they woke up together, had breakfast together -or made it together- , went to work in the same car -as a part of the members' plan- whether it was to interviews, photoshoots or just to the company, and when they went home they would play video games until they couldn't stay awake anymore.
Jimin's room was Jungkook's too now, he had moved some of his things to the bedside table on his side of the bed, his toothbrush was permanently in Jimin's bathroom and his skin care stuff was moved little by little without him noticing; from how much he was using Jimin's bathroom more than his own.
He had unofficially moved to Jimin's room.
And they still weren't dating.
That was the second thing that happened; as much as Jungkook was happy with the current situation, it still frustrated him that Jimin liked someone else. At times it still made him zone out, unintentionally ignoring Jimin.
Sometimes he would find himself flirting with Jimin, and when the older would flirt back, Jungkook would suddenly remember how Jimin didn't like him back, and liked someone else instead, so he would wave off their flirting as just friends fooling around.
It didn't exactly help that Jimin still hadn't commented on the younger's indirect confession.
Jungkook couldn't help but conclude that Jimin didn't want to reject him, and hurt his feelings, so Jimin had to pretended it didn't happen.
'Cause that was what Jimin did. After Jungkook's little confession they were both busy with work, and Jimin and Jungkook overworked themselves at the studio and the gym, and when they went home they were too tired to talk, and the day after that everything went back to normal. Jungkook's effort went down the drain.
Jungkook was itching to go back to his room and lock himself there. Isolating himself completely was his defence mechanism, and he felt as if he was trying to empty out the ocean with a spoon, and no matter how close him and Jimin got, Jungkook would always be a friend and nothing more.
He was trying not to let it show. He was really trying.
But he wasn't Jimin.
What Jungkook felt at the time was the complete opposite of how Jimin was feeling.
It was like someone switched their places; Jimin who was hurting for years was now on cloud nine, happy with how they were as close as ever. Meanwhile Jungkook who was oblivious to his feelings for Jimin was the one hurting now.
He wasn't one for holding in his feelings for years though.
He wasn't Jimin.
That was why he got a little snappy sometimes.
At first it was over stupid things.
They had finished their latest TV show, and were looking for a new one to watch together.
"What should we watch next?" Jimin had the remote control in his hand, scrolling through Netflix.
"How about Sherlock? Jin hyung said it was a good one." Jimin made a face.
He shook his head, "I'm not in the mood to read subtitles." He continued to scroll through it.
"Do you want to watch a Korean drama then? How about what's wrong with secretary Kim?" Jimin thought about it for a second.
"Isn't that Seojoon's show?" Jungkook nodded. "Nah, too weird; he's Tae's friend." Jungkook raised an eyebrow.
"Okay." He trailed off. "What genre do you want to watch? Maybe then we can narrow it down." He scratched at his forehead.
"Any genre. I don't mind." Jimin shrugged, still browsing through Netflix, and reading another TV show description.
"Clearly." Jungkook muttered. Jimin being too preoccupied to hear. "Maybe we should just watch Friends for now?" Jungkook suggested, about done with them picking something right now. He just wanted to watch anything in the meantime, just to pass the time.
"What? No. That's Namjoon's show not our show." Jimin said in disbelief, like Namjoon had forbidden anyone from watching it or something.
"Then just pick something for god's sake!" Jungkook snapped, taking Jimin by surprise.
He couldn't remember the last time Jungkook raised his voice at him.
Jimin turned to the younger finding Jungkook with wide angry eyes. It seemed Jungkook didn't realise what he had done yet; eyes still wide and eyebrows frowned.
"Did you just yell at me?" Jimin quietly said, still not processing what happened. He turned to the TV again, turning it off.
He turned back to Jungkook, waiting for him to say something. When he didn't, Jimin moved from the bed to leave the room, upset with the younger. "Wait! No!" Jungkook ran with lightening speed to block the doorway. "I'm sorry hyung I didn't mean to yell at you. Please forgive me?" Jimin looked at Jungkook for a few seconds, making Jungkook a little uneasy.
"No. Move. I wanna get out." Jimin quietly said, frowning a little, and looking down at the floor. Jungkook's whole body froze. He had upset Jimin. He had never done it before.
Jungkook didn't know what to do, but he couldn't leave Jimin upset with him like that. "Hyung, please." Jungkook's throat closed up, and Jimin still wasn't looking at him. "I'm sorry. I swear I-" when he couldn't let out any more words, he just moved to hug Jimin, holding onto him like he was about to disappear any second now. "I'm never gonna do it again, I promise. I'm so s- sorry hyung."
Jimin didn't know what was wrong with Jungkook. He knew there was something bothering him for a while now, and maybe that was what made him snap like that. So he wrapped his arms around Jungkook's waist in return, rubbing his back to comfort the almost crying maknae. "Okay Jungkook. Just don't do it again." He moved to break out of the hug.
"No!" Jungkook held Jimin, not letting go yet. "You called me Jungkook. You're still upset. I'm not letting go until you're not upset anymore." Jungkook stated.
Jimin sighed.
Might as well get comfortable.
Jimin rested his head on Jungkook's shoulder, deciding to take a nap. When Jungkook felt Jimin leaning on him with all his weight, he looked down. "Hyung? Are you sleeping? Is that how much you're upset with me?" Jimin nodded, just to annoy him. "Oh yeah?" Jungkook bent his knees, and lifted Jimin up walking to the bed, and throwing Jimin on it.
Loud laughter filled the room, one boy was being tortured with tickles, and the other was happy his hyung wasn't mad at him anymore.
They didn't know Jungkook would later break that promise.
Soon, it was a little more than snappy replies.
Jimin had been on his phone the majority of the day, smiling, and laughing at something on his phone screen.
Jungkook had been watching from a far with a scowl on his face. Jimin wasn't just watching videos or something, because he wasn't holding his phone horizontally. So he had to be texting someone who was making him laugh that much.
Someone who wasn't me.
The more time Jimin spent on his phone, the more Jungkook's frustration grew. He felt as though the older was toying with his feelings.
They were already acting like a couple, they did everything together, and they held each other at night, they were a couple, minus all the kissing and the labels.
Jin noticed how Jungkook was glaring at Jimin, or Jimin's phone to be specific, so he turned to look at him too and found the blonde giggling at something on his phone. He turned to Jungkook again.
Oh.
Jin made the conclusion that Jungkook was jealous. He must have thought Jimin was texting 'the person he liked', when that person didn't even exist.
He had to do something about it. "Jungkook-ah." Jin called, trying to gain the maknae's attention, but Jungkook was too focused on Jimin, so he had to call his name a few times.
When Jungkook finally noticed his hyung, he turned to him with a snappy "What?!" Jin flinched.
"What's wrong, Jungkook-ah?" He said gently, trying not to anger Jungkook even more.
He wanted to tell him he had nothing to worry about, and that person didn't even exist, but he couldn't.
They promised they wouldn't interfere.
"Nothing, hyung. Absolutely nothing." Jungkook glanced at Jimin as he said it, before he left the living room, deciding to wait for dinner in his room.
The room he didn't share with Jimin.
When Jimin was finished with the mini YouTube comedy series he was watching, dinner was ready, so he went to get Jungkook.
He went to their room, and couldn't find him.
Maybe he's in his own room?
Jimin went to Jungkook's original room, and opened the door to find him sprawled out on the bed, staring at the ceiling. "Kookie? What are you doing here?" Jimin frowned.
Jungkook turned his head at Jimin's voice. "Nothing." He replied curtly.
Jimin's frown deepened. Jungkook was definitely acting weird. "Well, dinner is ready. C'mon, get up."
Wanting to end the day, Jungkook got up and walked in front of Jimin to leave the room.
"Why were you even here?" Jimin questioned incredulously. He thought that by now Jungkook would consider his room as his own too. Apparently, he was wrong.
Jungkook continued to walk to the kitchen with Jimin right behind him, so when he stopped abruptly, Jimin bumped into his back. "I don't know. Maybe because I want to." Jungkook wasn't shouting. His voice wasn't even that loud. Still, his tone made the shorter flinch.
And they both walked into the kitchen frowning.
Until it turned into shouting matches.
After dinner, which was filled with a tense atmosphere, and sneaky confused glances, Jungkook decided to just leave the dorm, and go for a walk.
During his walk, Jungkook thought about what happened from the start, how an accidental kiss had led him to find the one he truly loved, and how it came to be that the one he loved was right in front of him all of those years, yet his heart belonged to someone else, but Jungkook was too far gone now. He was too deep in already, he couldn't come up even if he tried to.
The maknae continued to walk around, until he found a secluded café to relax in.
Jungkook didn't even say where he was going, but some of the members heard the door being slammed shut, and Namjoon had to count all of them to know it was Jungkook who left.
The leader thought of having a second secret meeting, but Jimin was home, so it would be very suspicious to gather themselves without him.
So Namjoon went to Jin's room instead.
He knocked on the door a couple of times rhythmically, and Jin knew it was Namjoon. "Come in joon." Namjoon smiled, and went in, and found Jin holding a book with glasses on. He had one finger inside the book to bookmark where he stopped.
"Am I bothering you hyung?" Namjoon didn't like it when someone interrupted his reading time, so he didn't want to do that to anyone. "I can come back later?" He offered.
"No. No. I wanted to talk to you. Come. Sit." Jin pointed at his bed. He was sitting on his desk chair, in front of the bed.
Namjoon then laid down on the bed completely, face down, too tired to even sit up.
"What's wrong? Did something bad happen?" Jin sat up straight, sensing some trouble coming.
Namjoon turned his head to Jin's direction, so his voice wouldn't be muffled when he spoke. "No. I don't think so. Well, not yet at least."
Jin raised an eyebrow. "Can you tell me what actually happened then?"
"Oh yeah. Jungkook just left the dorm. I don't know where he went though." Namjoon informed sleepily. "Is there something going on with him? Do you have any idea what might be wrong with him? He's been a little like- I don't know what. Like-"
"Tense." Jin finished for him. Namjoon snapped his fingers, and nodded repeatedly, in a way to say that was exactly how he felt. "Yeah it's about Jimin, obviously. He still doesn't know that there's no black haired someone that Jimin likes- well, other than him." Jin shrugged. "You should have seen him earlier though. He thought Jimin was texting someone, and being all giggly, so he got really jealous, and angry, when Jimin was actually watching a comedy show. I felt bad for him though; wouldn't wanna be in his place."
Namjoon mouth formed an 'O' shape. "I wish I was there!" Jin gave him a look, so Namjoon changed the subject. "You said you wanted to talk to me about something. What is it hyung?"
Giving up on his book, Jin pulled a bookmark and replaced his finger with it, and put the book away.
"I was going to tell you about that Jungkook and Jimin situation-"
"Jikook." Namjoon interrupted with an apologetic smile.
Jin raised one eyebrow, and continued. "That jikook situation, but you beat me to it. Don't you think we should at least let Jungkook know there is not a secret someone to worry about?" Jin was a worrier, and he considered Jungkook his little brother, now more than ever after Jungkook opened up to him.
"I don't think we should." When Jin pouted, Namjoon explained. "I think it's a good thing that Jungkook believes there's competition, when there isn't. Don't you think that would make him fight for Jimin, and make him his before that imaginary person?"
When Jin thought about it for a few seconds it made sense. If Jungkook didn't have a reason to fight, then he wouldn't. "You're right! And you know what else? If there was 'no one' in the way, then Jimin and Jungkook would just be way too comfortable with staying friends and flirting occasionally, and this would go nowhere." Jin pointed out, and Namjoon gave him a slow clap.
"What are you reading that's got you all smart and stuff? Is it Sherlock again?" Namjoon teased, trying to peak at the book Jin was reading.
"Shut up, kid." Jin threw his arm back in a silent threat, and Namjoon raised his hands up in defence. "I actually wanted to talk to you about that dance move." Jin turned serious, now talking to their leader, not his friend.
It was way past midnight, when Jungkook finally came back.
Jimin had stayed up, too worried to fall asleep. Jungkook didn't say where he was going, and they didn't have anything on their schedule today.
Maybe it had to do with the thing that was bothering him.
Jimin slept with his back to the door, so he could pretend to be asleep when Jungkook came back.
So when he heard the front door being shut, he closed his eyes, but still paid attention to the noises Jungkook was making.
Jungkook thought about just going to his own room to sleep, and make up any excuse to Jimin in the morning.
I'll go and see if he's awake first.
so Jungkook walked to Jimin's room, trying not to make much noise, and found Jimin sleeping already.
All the lights were off except for the night light beside Jimin, the mochi felt uneasy sleeping in complete darkness, except for when Jungkook was cuddled up to him. He was sure Jungkook would always protect him.
After just standing there for a few minutes without doing anything but looking at Jimin's sleeping -or so he thought- form, he made his decision.
Jungkook went to his bedside table, and dumped his things, and took most of his clothes off to go wash up.
He came back after a few minutes, and put on his boxers and sweatpants, and slid into the bed next to Jimin.
He was about to wrap his arms around him when he hesitated, so he just laid there for a few minutes, looking at the back of Jimin's head, contemplating if he should cuddle him or not.
Jimin felt Jungkook's weight leaning on him, the night light being turned off, and Jungkook laying back again.
When Jungkook finally held him close, Jimin had to hold back a sigh of relief.
When morning came, Jungkook was the first to wake up. He looked at the clock and found it was still 6:00 AM.
He didn't sleep that much, considering he went to sleep after midnight, but he felt awake nonetheless.
He was about to wake Jimin up, when he remembered.
I shouldn't.
He still felt weird around Jimin. He knew he was being unfair, and if being friends with Jimin was all he could be in order to be close to Jimin, he should endure it.
Maybe I should just get my shit together today.
He didn't feel like going back to sleep, although the warm bed with Jimin was very inviting, he had to start to discipline his emotions, so he decided to go for a morning jog.
When Jimin woke up, he felt cold at first, so he moved back to gain some warmth from Jungkook, but he didn't feel him behind him, so he turned in bed, only to find it empty.
He started to doubt the fact that Jungkook even went to bed with him last night.
He huffed, turning on his back and staring up at the ceiling. "Good morning to me." He kicked his feet in the air, taking the covers off him aggressively, wanting this day to be over already.
When he found it was a little past seven, he went to his bathroom, to begin his morning routine.
Once he was finished he left his room, going to the kitchen to make hot chocolate to lighten up his mood.
Great. There's no chocolate.
He groaned in frustration.
Jimin was about to go back to bed and try to sleep the morning off, and just leave for work in the afternoon, but he bumped into Jin and Namjoon in the hallway.
"Morning Jimin." Namjoon greeted, and Jin reached over and ruffled Jimin's hair as a greeting.
"Ugh! Morning hyungs." He let out, feeling a headache coming.
"Jimin, I'm sorry, I know you just woke up, but we need to talk." The leader said, giving Jimin a serious look.
Jimin looked at them suspiciously, something was definitely up.
"Okay." Jimin rubbed at his eyes. "Let's go to the kitchen."
When Jungkook came back, he heard loud voices emitting from the kitchen. "Hyung, I can do it! I swear!" Jimin.
"No you can't, Jimin! I'm sorry, but this is for your own good. So please go to the company today, and refuse this idea officially." Namjoon.
"No! Why are you so against it?!" Jimin.
"Jimin, calm down, please." Jin.
"No, I'm doing it!" Jimin.
"Jimin! Don't test me." Namjoon.
"Guys! Let's take time off and discuss this after breakfast okay?" Jin.
"Discuss what?" Jungkook inquired, walking into the kitchen, sweaty from his morning jog.
Jimin turned to look at him, his face red and breathing ragged. He turned to Namjoon again, begging him with his eyes to not tell Jungkook.
Namjoon looked back at Jimin apologetically, "we're adding dance moves to the fake love dance, and they offered Jimin a part that might injure him from the first try." Namjoon explained with a calm voice, tired from all the shouting.
He was worried about Jimin, as his hyung first, and not just as a leader, that dance move could cause serious damage to Jimin if he fell or lost balance.
"Is it that bad?" Jungkook raised his eyebrows, he rarely ever saw Namjoon shouting. He has always been a sensible leader.
Namjoon reached for his phone, and played the illustration video of three figures, one would be Jimin in the middle with two people holding him from each side.
Jungkook leaned forward to get a better look, the video kept replaying itself, and he tried to imagine Jimin doing that stunt. "No." He leaned back still with his eyes on the phone. He couldn't look at Jimin. He had already seen and heard how much Jimin wanted to do it, but it was too dangerous. he couldn't let him. "No." He repeated.
Jin made eye contact with Namjoon.
Jimin tried to make eye contact with Jungkook, but failed, his eyes still trained on the phone in Namjoon's hand.
"Let's continue after breakfast, guys. Okay?" Jin reasoned, dragging Namjoon along with him and leaving the kitchen.
They stayed in the bedrooms hallway, Yoongi, Hoseok, and Taehyung still hadn't woken up, so they stayed there in case they did and tried to go to the kitchen.
It was off limits for now.
"What do you mean no?" Jimin quietly said, his face was as red as it could ever get now, his eyes were warm, and tears of frustration were threatening to fall any second now.
"No means no! You can't do that. Do you have any idea what might happen to you if you stumbled or lost your balance?!" Jungkook snapped, he couldn't fathom how Jimin even thought of doing it. Sure he could do it. Jimin was born to dance. He had even studied dancing, but it was a risk Jungkook wasn't willing to take.
"You're talking like you actually have a say over this." Jimin still didn't raise his voice, but instead chose to pick his words carefully, to make Jungkook snap out of it.
But he wasn't.
"I'm the only one who can decide, and I'm gonna do it." Jimin stated, his voice quivering. He couldn't believe how Jungkook wasn't supporting him.
"Jimin-ssi! I swear to god, you're not doing it! Even if I have to chain you down! I'm gonna do it!" Jungkook yelled in Jimin's face, eyes wide with rage mirroring the older, who's tears were slowly falling now.
Jimin stepped forward, silently challenging the younger. "Why! Do you actually care that much?! Why would you care if I broke my neck or not!" Jimin yelled back, and maybe that argument was about more than just a dance move.
They had both reached their limits.
"Because I'm in love with you, god damn it!" Jungkook finally yelled, surprising both of them.
