Chapter 24

Hey wanna play UNO?

Just Best Friends!? | ✔︎

CHAPTER 22

Sarah's POV.

A little jealousy creates a lot of sparks in the background. The one you read in books.

We were close to our end semester, that is how we had a lot of homework and somehow we even had essays to submit. It was middle of the week and I was somehow drained. It felt like the week is dragging and time was slow. I sighed currently sitting with a couple of people in the last.

However, the guys sitting in front of me had a twisted idea of playing UNO in the back when the teacher was explaining, it was kind of boring, to be honest, and they seemed to enjoy the UNO.

"Hey wanna play UNO?" The first guy asked.

"Of course Drew she wants to, just look at her, she can't seem to interest the class!" The other guy said.

"Uh.. sure why not!?" I replied.

"So I am Sean and he is Andrew!" He handed out the cards to me.

"I am Sarah!" They smiled at me.

Apparently, it seemed Andrew was constantly loosing to me and Sean.

"You're cheating!" Andrew accused me.

"Omfg, you're shuffling the deck. You're so stupid!" I laughed and he huffed in response while Sean smirked.

"Lol." Sean said sarcastically and the bell rang.

As much as the period bored me the game made it fun.

"See you in the next physics period!" Andrew said and both of them waved me bye. I walked to my one and only last Literature period, somehow happy that it is the last one.  God, I swear no-one was happier than me.

I sat with Zack in the corner while James who I haven't been taking too since the first day is on the other side of the class. It's good for me or him, I honestly can't decide. There was Whispers and talking until Ms Winters came in. The class fell silent as she walked in with a serious expression.

"Good afternoon class, so for the final exam of English Literature, you'll have to work in pair for 50% of the marks." The class groaned simultaneously.

"Oh no no kids, the groaning and all don't work here." She said in a stern voice and the class fell silent again.

"So now, your partner will be the one you're currently sitting. No groans and no frowns. So you'll have to choose any one of Shakespeare's play and twist it in a modern day love story. Remember students you can't change partners. You can show compassion, passion, love, heartbreak and all of that emotions but don't completely snap out of the old plays keep the essence of it. Also remember it's due in 2 weeks. Just before your exams start!" Ms Winters announced.

The class broke out in whispers and hushed talks for the next 5 minutes and then the class had to remove the textbooks. I loved literature since it has beautifully written plays and chapters and essays. I loved writing and reading classics that is why I signed for this subject. The bell rang signalling the end of the lecture. Everyone hustled in the hallways to dump their belongings and take whatever is necessary however it was good to be finally going home. I saw James approaching from the corner of my eyes and decided to not pay any heed there. Meanwhile, Zack went washroom and would meet directly in the parking lot.

"Hey Angel, how are you?" He stood right next to me.

"Look what the cat dragged in." I stated flatly.

"You don't seem to be in a good mood?" He pressured as we walked till the parking lot, where my while squad would meet.

"How about we do a little recap of it then?" I hissed angrily and he scratched the back of his neck.

"Angel, haven't you heard? Angels look bad in frowns!?" He grinned at me, gracefully showing me his smile too.

"No, Mr Creepy neighbour, I am not aware of that!" I muttered sarcasm draped perfectly in my voice.

"Oh, c'mon Angel!" He swinged his arm on my shoulder while walking towards the parking lot and I scoffed playfully.

"What? You've been ghosting me since Friday, its almost a week!" I flailed my arms to make a point.

"Oh, I'm sorry sweetie!" He apologized sincerely and I shrugged not knowing what to say.

"However, I wanted to clear a thing rather ask you one question!" He calmly said while all I did was raise my eyebrows in anticipation to it.

"Right. Well, are you and Zack dating?" He said rather blurted with his face flushing red.

"What?" My now playful mood is rather annoyed with this question.

"Just answer the damn question, Sarah!" I flinched at his tone but nonetheless looked straight him in the eye.

"No!" I said out loud and clear for him to understand and he let out a breath he was holding.

"Oh. Great. I will have to admit, I was jealous!" He said sincerely but I was amused at what he said.

"You were what? Did I even hear correctly?" I broke into fits of laughter. Jealous? Oh my god. I couldn't stop and I laughed like a hyena, terribly. Terrible terrible laughing loop.

"Yeah, you heard it right. Stop laughing." He whined and hit me on the shoulder.

"Oh my god. Okay okay okay." I counted till 5 to shut up. I spotted Zack leaning away on his car waiting for me.

"Hey, I'll see you later okay!? I have to go with Zack, we have Eng Lit assignment."  I told him walking towards Zack. Coincidently his car was next to Zack.

"Okay! Another time!" He smiled at me while Nate swang his arms around my shoulder.

"Hey, you're heavy. Get off me!" I swatted his arms that caused the guys to crack up.

"Hey, are you guys going to play video games?" Nate asked with big puppy eyes.

"No Mofo, we have an assignment to get over with!" Zack answered.

"Oh well, English literature assignment is in the buzz. Lucky you, both partnered together. I am partnered with a nerd who doesn't even understand jokes!" He pouted while we laughed.

"Idiot!" I poked him on the ribs before Zack dragged me to the car without telling bye to our squad. Even then, I shout a bye to Nate.

By the time we sat inside the car, Nate had disappeared and James was already in the car. We left the parking lot behind James following the route closely. Usually, when we leave school we turn left for our home but James took a right turn, he almost looked pale when I told him that I'll leave with Zack. I shrugged my thoughts as we stopped right in front of an ice cream parlour. I savoured ice cream like a kid.

Yes, I have soft corners for icecream.

Honestly, there is nothing best than icecream on a decently hot day. After quickly finishing ice cream we headed to my house!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You must be thinking we did a lot of work but in all honesty, all we did was eat and bicker around. We didn't work on it the tiniest bit since we had 2 weeks to turn in our essays, we didn't work it out today. He kept playing with pillows, ruffling all the set stuff. Later we ended watching a random horror movie on Netflix but if you ask us the progress of the essay it would be nil. Nada.
Zack left when the movie was over that is to say he left around 5:30 in the evening where I walked him till the car. He nonchalantly said we would work essay later and I agreed to it. Can this guys do anything before the due date is on our head? No. I guess not.
"Hey Sarah, do you know where James is?" James' mother called me from the other side of the fence.
"Uh no. Is he not home yet? I saw him driving to the other side of the city but I am not sure where!" I replied to his mother whose face had wrinkles of worries, hoping his kid is safe.
"Tell me if you get to know anything Sarah!" She said hopefully.
"Uh yes, I will!" I waved her a quick bye wandering where did James go!
