Chapter 9

06: First Date

Her Wolf [Teen Wolf]

The following night, the three best friends were in Stiles's jeep at school as they peered into the crime scene from the other side of the fence. Derek said that if Scott went back, he would be able to remember what happened on the bus. Using his senses at the scene could help trigger his memories.

Sky and Stiles moved to exit the jeep but Scott held is hand out and shook his head, "Hey, no, just me. Someone needs to keep watch."

Sky groans, "Stiles can do that."

"Stiles needs watching."

" . . . I can't argue with that."

"I'm right here, you know," points out Stiles.

Sky looks at Scott, "Did you hear something?"

Stiles groans, "How come I'm always the guy keeping watch?"

"Because someone has to," says Scott. "And one of us always has to keep you out of trouble."

"Okay, why's it starting to feel like you're Batman and I'm Robin? I don't want to be Robin all the time," exclaims Stiles.

"Hey, what am I?" wonders Sky.

"Nobody's Batman and Robin any of the time," says Scott.

"Not even some of the time?"

"Just stay here."

"Oh, my God! Fine," Stiles huffs, slumping in his seat as Scott leaves the jeep and leaps over the fence to get to the bus.

"So," Sky begins, popping her head between the seats from where she was sitting in the back. "What am I?"

Stiles glances at her, "A pain in the ass."

Sky kicks his seat, "Watch it. Or I'll claw your eyes out."

Stiles scoffs, "You wouldn't."

"No," Sky admits. "But I would scratch your Star Wars DVDs."

Stiles gasps.

Before he can reply, light's catch their eyes as they see Scott racing back.

"Come on, come on," mutters Stiles.

Scott dives into the front seat as red and blue lights came into view, "Go! Go! Go! Go!" He yells. Stiles hits the gas and speeds off.

"Did it work?" asks Sky.

Scott nods, "Yeah, I was there last night. And the blood — a lot of it was mine," he explains.

"So you did attack him?" asks Stiles.

"No," Scott reveals. They all share a collective sigh of relief. "I saw glowing eyes in the bus, but they weren't mine. It was Derek."

Stiles glances at him, "What about the driver?"

"I think I was actually trying to protect him."

"Wait, why would Derek help you remember that he attacked the driver?" questions Sky, furrowing her eyebrows.

"That's what I don't get."

"Maybe it's a pack thing?" she supplies.

Stiles nods, "Like an initiation. You do the kill together."

"I hope I don't get initiated," mumbles Sky.

Scott glances at her then back to Stiles, "Because ripping someone's throat out is a real bonding experience?"

"Yeah, but you didn't do it, which means you're not a killer. And it also means that —"

"I can go out with Allison,"  Scott bursts with a smile.

Stiles just looks at him, "I was gonna say it means you won't kill me but —"

"Or me? Your twin sister you love so dearly?" adds Sky as she squints at her brother.

"Yeah, that too."

"Wow, Scott. Wow."

Lydia hums as she flips through the clothes in Allison's wardrobe. She shakes her head as she looks through the choices, "Pass. Let me see. Pass. Pass. Uh, pass on all of it," She looks back to Allison. "Respect for your taste is, uh, dwindling by the second."

Ariel stands up from her position on the bed and grabs one of the tops from Lydia's hands, holding it out to Allison, "This one's good," she smiles. She was unable to stop Lydia from dragging her over to Allison's, but made sure to text Sky to pick her up from here instead.

Mr. Argent walks into the room and looks at them in confusion. When she notices, Allison looks at him in annoyance for just walking in, "Dad, hello?"

He clears his throat, "Right, sorry. I completely forgot to knock."

"Hi, Mr Argent," Lydia and Ariel both wave and flash smiles.

"I wanted to tell you that you will be staying in tonight," Mr. Argent informs her.

Allison's jaw drops, "What? I'm going out with my friends tonight," She tells him.

He shakes his head, "Not when some animal out there is attacking people."

Allison laughs in disbelief, "Dad, dad I'm — "

Argent cuts her off, "It's out of my hands. There's a curfew. No one's allowed out past 9:30 P.M. Hey, no more arguing," He tells her, giving them one last glance before leaving the room.

"Well, someones daddy's little girl," teases Lydia, making Ariel swat her arm lightly.

Allison stares at the door, "Sometimes, but not tonight," she says. The girls look at her in confusion.

"What are you doing?" asks Ariel as Allison steps out of her window.  Watching in surprise when the girl turns and performs a flip off the ledge, hitting the ground gracefully and rolling to a stand.

She smiles up at them, "Eight years gymnastics, Ari. You girls coming?"

"We'll take the stairs," Lydia says to them before her sister can get any bright ideas.

The girls were half way down the stairs when they hear a knock on the door.

"Oh, that must be Sky," says Ariel, a breathless tone to her voice as she quickens her pace.

Lydia stops her before she can get there, "Wait! Let me check you over."

She scans her eyes over what Ariel was wearing. Lydia smoothed over the pastel pink skirt that ended just above her knees, adjusted the white top she was wearing at the shoulder and nods at her choice in heels that matches the skirt with a little silver handbag over her shoulder. Her strawberry blonde hair which was nearly identical to her own was curled perfectly and she had gone with a natural makeup look.

"You look perfect," She compliments.

Ariel smiles, "Thanks, Lyds. And thanks for being okay with this."

Lydia shrugs, "Just remember, don't give her more than a little taste on the first date," she winks, laughing as Ariel hits her arm in embarrassment.

"Let me see what we're dealing with," mutters Lydia, and before Ariel could stop her, she opens the door a little bit to reveal a nervous-looking Skylar.  With a cool facial expression, she scans her outfit and raises her brow, letting Sky fidget under her gaze.

"Sorry," whispers Ariel, knowing she could hear.

Sky was wearing jeans and a black top with thin straps at the shoulders covered by a black leather jacket. Her hair was down like usual, but with smooth and wavy peaces casually framing her face, unlike the carelessly casual style she usually wore. She also had a light layer of mascara and lip gloss applied.

After Lydia nods in approval, she opens the door further to reveal a shyly smiling Ariel.

Sky tries not to gape openly, and she definitely does not have to drag her eyes up from Ariel's legs.

Clearing her throat with an awkward smile, she waves slightly, "Well, I'm just relieved you answered the door and not Mr Argent," she comments.

Ariel pauses in her gazing and cringes, "Oh, yeah. Me too."

Lydia, who was still there, smirks in amusement and gently pushes her sister out the door,  "Enjoy your date, girls," she tells them, closing the door behind her and strutting off the porch and towards the car to where Allison was waiting.

Sky looks back to Ariel, grinning now they were alone, "You're looking rather pretty tonight."

Ariel tucks some of her hair behind her ear. "You're not looking so bad yourself, McCall."

Sky hesitates, but bravely holds out a hand, "Ready to go?"

Ariel looks down, smiling as she intertwines their fingers, "Definitely. Where are we going?"

Sky smiles nervously, "It's a surprise, but the walks not far. Let's go," She gently pulls her along.

"So," starts Sky as they walk. "Does this mean you won't be tutoring me anymore?" she wonders as she swings their hands back and forth.

Ariel chuckles, "Not unless you want me to stop, Sky."

"I'm obviously a lost cause without you, so you won't be getting complaints from me anytime soon."

"True."

"You're not supposed to agree."

Ariel laughs, "You said it."

Sky turns them onto a path through the woods, subtly pulling Ariel closer.

Ariel smiles slyly at her, "You're not leading me in here to kill me, are you?"

Sky pulls a face, "I don't think I'd stand a chance against you."

Ariel smirks, "Why, weak for me, Sky?"

Sky looks at her seriously, "Absolutely."

***

Soon enough, they reach a beautiful clearing with a view of the rest of Beacon Hills.

Ariel looks around in awe, gasping quietly when she catches sight of blankets covering a patch of grass, surrounded by dozens of fairy lights hanging from the tree branches around it. A small basket sits by the blankets, presumably carrying food and drink.

Ariel turns round and stares at Sky, who was looking at her slightly embarrassed as she tries to gauge her reaction.

"You did all this?"

Sky scratches her neck, "Yeah, well, mostly. Who knew Scott and Stiles can actually be helpful sometimes?" She jokes. She bites her lip. "Is it okay?"

Ariel pulls her into a tight hug.

"Oh, this is nice," Sky mutters. "But the anxiety is still there."

Pulling away, Ariel shakes her head in disbelief, "It's amazing," she reassures. "Let's go sit down before I swoon."

Sky grins, "Okay."

***

A long time was spent talking, eating and laughing as they bantered back and forth, eventually deciding to lay down side by side on the blanket, hands intertwined as they looked up at the sky.

After a few minutes of silence, Sky turns her head to the right to look at Ariel.

"So, were your standards met?"

Ariel looks at her and squints, "My standards?" she repeats in question.

"Your . . . gay standards."

Ariel turns on her side, "And what's the difference between those and normal standards?"

Sky pauses, "Oh. Nothing. They're just — gay."

Ariel chuckles, "Well, I can definitely say you're the first person to set any standards, Sky."

Sky blinks, "Did I set them high?"

"That's confidential."

"Not fair."

"That's life, I'm afraid."

"Yeah," mutters Sky. "So, I'm thinking —"

"Don't strain yourself."

Sky squints at her, "I was thinking about what's next after this."

Ariel bites her lip, "That's a big question."

"Is it though?" Sky glances at her.

Ariel hums in thought, "Well, yeah. It depends what you want next."

A hand squeezes hers.

"Hey, Ariel?"

"Yes?"

Sky takes a brave breath, "Would you like to be my girlfriend and go on a second date?"

Ariel sits up and stares at Sky. She sighs, "I should have expected that."

Sky nods, "Yeah, probably."

Ariel leans forward, pausing slightly as she gets within a breath of the other girl's lips before she moves in and kisses her softly. Sky hums, letting herself enjoy it for a few seconds before she pulls back, "You didn't answer," she points out.

Ariel narrows her eyes at her, "Were my actions not answer enough?"

Looking down, Sky takes note of Ariel's new position, somehow having crept onto her lap. She looks back up, "I would like to know if they were the actions of my girlfriend," she says.

Ariel grins, and Sky takes pride in the light shade of red covering her cheeks, "Well, I can tell you that they were. And your girlfriend is now telling you to spend less time talking and more time kissing her."

"One minute into this relationship and you're already making demands."

"Oh, do you not want to?"

Sky leans forward, "I never said that."
