Jamie turned his headlights off as he turned on to Fairbank Lane.

The stolen car smelt strongly of garlic, and cats, which had him sneezing continuously for the first ten minutes of his drive.

Driving with all the windows open had finally cleared the air in the car a little, and allowed his breathing to return to normal.

He pulled onto the first driveway he came across, long and paved, which lead past several green fields and a small wood, up to a whitewashed old farmhouse.

A hundred yards from the house, Jamie killed the engine, and walked the rest of the way up the driveway.

A small lamp was turned on in the living room.

Jamie crept silently up to the window, and looked through.

Lily was curled up on the sofa, fast asleep, a huge black and white dog by her side.

Looking around, Jamie saw another light was shining on the second floor.

Two black silhouettes were visible against the curtains.
