Chapter 218
When His Eyes Opened
Chapter 218 It was dinner time at Starry River Villa,
âAvery, Wesley came by to see you this afternoon,â Laura said with bright eyes. âHe told me that he was
going to settle down here in Aryadelleâ¦â
Avery figured out what her mother was thinking from the grin on her face.
âMom, I know youâre hoping Iâll find someone to get married to soon, but please donât pull that face while
we are in public. Otherwise, people would think Iâm desperate for marriage!â Avery pleaded. âIâm still in
my twenties. Iâm still young! This is the time I should be focusing on my career. Once Iâm successful, men
will be lining up to marry me.â
The smile on Lauraâs face vanished.
âIâm not pestering you... I just really think that Wesleyâs a great man. He took care of you the whole time
you were abroad! Donât you see how well he treats you?â
âAm I supposed to marry anyone whoâs good to me? In that case, Professor Hough was good to me,
too!â
âFine! Keep acting blind! Wesley really is a good man. You might never find someone like him again if
you miss out now.â
âCanât you have a little more faith in me? There will be men who will be attracted to me in the future,â
Avery said as she comforted her mother. âBesides, did you ask the children what they think? They donât
want a stepfather.â
Avery shot a meaningful look at her children.
Layla cleverly expressed her opinion and said, âI donât want a stepfather, but Iâll make myself accept
anyone Mommy likes.â
It was clear that her daughter did not understand what Avery was trying to signal to her.
Avery pinned her hopes on her son.
âLetâs eat, Grandma,â said Hayden,
âAlright, I wonât say more,â Laura said. âIâm just worried that your Mommy will regret this, so Iâm just
reminding her. I wonât waste my time worrying about it, since she has no such intentions.â
Avery chuckled and said, âMom, if youâre so eager to play matchmaker, then find someone for Mike. Heâs
been hanging out at bars every day recently. I bet heâs dying to find a better half.â
Laura was left speechless.

At Tate Industries the next day, Wesleyâs visit took Avery by surprise.
âArenât you resting at home from the jet lag?â Avery asked as she invited him to take a seat on the couch.
âDo you have coffee here?â Wesley asked.
âI do, but you shouldnât have coffee now. Otherwise, you wonât be able to sleep at night,â Avery said, then
poured him a glass of water. âHow about I take you on a tour of each department later?â
Wesley nodded, then said, âIâve actually come to talk to you about something.â
He then placed a photo in front of her.
Avery picked up the photo, and her eyes were filled with curiosity as she asked, âWhoâs this?â
âHeâs a patient. Heâs been bedridden for three years, but he is somewhat conscious. He is a little better
than someone who is in a vegetative state. His parents contacted Professor Hough half a year ago. He
took on the case but wasnât able to put together a treatment plan in timeâ¦â Wesley answered.
âI see... Since the professor gave his word, please send over his medical records for me to take a look
at,â Avery said.
âWould it get in the way of your work? You just started your company after all,â Wesley said hesitantly.
âLetâs talk about this again once things settle down here.â
Avery glanced at the photo, then said, âSend over his records first. Itâs a waste for such a handsome face
to be lying on a hospital bed for so long!â
âIâll send it to you later today,â Wesley responded. âNow, take me on a tour of your empire!â
Avery could not help but laugh.
âDonât tease me. I didnât make fun of you like this when I was at Elizabeth Hospital.â
As Avery and Wesley left the office, they engaged in cheerful talk and laughter.
Very quickly, the news of Avery Tateâs new boyfriend spread through the entire Tate Industries.
