Chapter 36
When His Eyes Opened
âMadam Avery hasnât come home yet,â said Mrs. Cooper. âIâve been waiting in the living room the
whole time and I havenât seen her all night.â
Elliotâs eyes turned dark.
If she did not come home, where could she have gone?
Did she lie to him about coming home to write her thesis?
âIâll give her a call right now,â Mrs. Cooper said as she rushed toward the living room.
Avery had been abducted the moment she had set foot out of Forrance Villa, and now, she was on the
other side of the city.
She had been dragged into a car, blindfolded, and her wrists were bound.
The car drove on for about an hour before coming to a halt.
She was taken into a room and thrown into a chair.
When her blindfold was taken off, she heard the unfamiliar voice of a strange man.
âApologies, Miss Tate. Weâre just doing our jobs. We wonât hurt you as long as you cooperate with us.â
Avery glanced around the white room until her eyes fell on the strangerâs face.
He was wearing a mask, so she could not see his features, but his voice was completely unfamiliar to
her.,
âIâll cooperate as long as you donât hurt me. However, I wonât do anything illegal even if you force me
to,â she said calmly.
The man chuckled lightly, then said, âI doubt a weak little lady like you would be able to commit a
crime.â
As he said that, he untied Averyâs hands and connected her to a lie detector machine.
âThis is a lie detector. You have to answer my questions truthfully. You wonât get past this test,
otherwise. If you lie, youâre not leaving this place tonight. Understood?â
Avery gazed at the machine, stayed silent for a moment, then nodded her head.
âDonât worry, I wonât lie.â
âGood,â said the man, then began the test. âWhatâs your name?â
âAvery Tate.â
âDid your father tell you the code to the safe before he died?â
âNo.â
After she answered, the man glanced at the machineâs monitor.
All of the indicators were within the normal parameters, proving that she was telling the truth.
âWhy were you at Forrance Villa tonight? Who invited you?â
Avery remained silent.
âAre you trying to lie to me?â snapped the man. âDonât think too much about the questions, just give me
an answer!â
âOh⦠I was just worried youâd get shocked by my answer,â Avery said nonchalantly. âDo you know the
Fosters?â
âWho?â
âDo you know Elliot Foster?â Avery asked.
of course Idol Heâs loaded. Who wouldnât know who he is? Why are you bringing him up? Was he the
one who invited you?â asked the man.
Avery shook her head and said, âDo you know his nephew, Cole Foster?â
âWhat are you going on about? And am I the one asking you the questions or are you?! Just answer
my question! Stop wasting my time!â
The man was losing his temper.
âCole Foster took me there,â Avery said.
âWhatâs your relationship with him?â
âWe have a special relationship. Weâre all adults here, so you should know what I mean, right?â
âFine, I get it! Were you the one who opened your fatherâs safe? This is an important question, so you
better not lie! My employer knows the truth! This machine is just a backup!â
Avery stared at the manâs furious gaze, pondered for a moment, then said, âIt was me, but the stuff
inside isnât with me.â
âWho did you give it to?!â
âI mentioned him just now,â Avery said with an innocent expression on her face..
âElliot Foster?â
Avery shook her head.
âOh! Your man, Cole Foster?â Avery nodded.
