Chapter 72
When His Eyes Opened
Chapter 72
Avery froze in her tracks.
When she realized that her phone had just been snatched away, she began to run in the direction that
the thief had sped off.
However, she stopped running when she remembered that she was pregnant and made her way back
toward the house.
Mrs. Cooper was on the phone with Elliot about an hour later.
âMaster Elliot, Madam Averyâs phone was stolen when she was out on a walk earlier. I took her to the
station to file a report, but we were told that it was nearly impossible to get the phone back. Madam
Averyâs eyes were so red when we got home. She said that there was a lot of important information on
her phone. Sheâs crying by herself in her room right now.â
She could not allow things to remain as they are, and she thought that if Elliot knew about the matter,
he might be able to use his connections to retrieve Elliotâs phone.
In truth, she had never confirmed if Avery was actually crying in her room, but she said it on purpose in
hopes that Elliot might feel bad and help her.
Elliot had an appointment with Charlier Tierney that night.
He was already at the restaurant where they were supposed to meet in, and Charlie was expected to
arrive at any moment.
After receiving Mrs. Cooperâs call, he came to a decision after less than a minuteâs consideration.
When Charlie arrived at the restaurant and saw nobody but Chad, he raised his brows and asked,
âWhereâs your boss?â
âIâm sorry, Mr. Tierney, but Mr. Foster just left. Something happened at home, so he asked me to wait
for you here and explain things to you,â Chad explained apologetically.
âIsnât that too much of a coincidence?â Charlie scoffed. âCould it be that he decided not to meet with me
and came up with some lame excuse?â
âEven if Mr. Foster didnât want to see you, he wouldnât escape at the last minute,â Chad said. âHeâs not
afraid of anyone.â
Charlie took a seat, then stared calmly at Chad and said, âFrom what I recall, he doesnât have the best
relationship with his family. Who exactly is in trouble for him to ditch me like this?â
âHis wife,â answered Chad. Charlie did not have anything to say to that.
âIâm guessing Mr. Foster asked to meet you to discuss your dealings with Miss Avery Tate. I may be
speaking out of turn, but I have to inform you that Mr. Foster is very fond of Miss Avery. You would be
better off keeping your distance from her.â
After considering it for a moment, Charlie responded, âHave you ever thought of jumping ship, Chad?
can offer a significant pay raise.â
Chad was flustered.
âThank you for the kind offer, Mr. Tierney, but I have no intention of leaving Sterling Group anytime
soon. A s long as Mr. Foster doesnât fire me, I wonât leave his side.â
âWhyâs that?â Charlie asked, puzzled.
âYou can ask Chelsea her reason for not leaving the company.â
âShe wonât leave because sheâs in love with Elliot Foster. Donât tell me youâre in love with him too?!â
Charlie chuckled.
âI like him, but out of respect,â Chad answered honestly. âEveryone always talks about his temper, but
there are many facets to a human being. Someone who never smiles isnât necessarily a bad person,
and someone who is always friendly isnât necessarily pure of heart.â
âAre you talking about me?â Charlie asked. âOf course not,â Chad replied. âThere is no hidden meaning.
Youâre a formidable man, but I would never betray Mr. Foster.â
Chad knew very well that Charlie wanted to poach him so he could use him against Elliot.
As his trusty right-hand man, nobody would know Elliot as well as Chad did.
âIf I decide to turn my back on Mr. Foster today, I could very well do the same thing to you in the future.
Iâm sure you wonât be able to trust someone like that,â Chad said.
When Elliot arrived at the police station, the whole station fell into an anxious frenzy.
The captain rushed over when he received the call.
âYour phone was stolen? That thief must be out of his mind! Iâll get my men on it right away! You have
my word that I will get your phone back within the next twenty-four hours!â said the captain as he
placed his hand on his chest and promised Elliot.
âItâs not my phone that was stolen,â Elliot said.
âOh! You scared me! I thought it was yours,â
âIt was my wifeâs,â Elliot said, then took a sip of water and asked, âCan you get it back in twenty-four
hours?â
The captain was taken aback, then said, âYes! Absolutely! We have surveillance cameras everywhere
now, so we will definitely get it back! Weâll start a full-fledged investigation right now!â
Elliot nodded and said, âI appreciate it.â
âDonât mention it! Weâre just doing our jobs!â The captain flipped through the report, then asked, âIs
your wifeâs name Avery Tate?â
