Chapter 99
When His Eyes Opened
Elliot slept soundly though he sweated. His temperature was normal, and as Avery was exhausted, she
lay down beside him and fell into a deep slumber.
Avery woke up at three oâclock in the afternoon, and she felt a pang of hunger. She got out of bed,
changed her clothes, and came out of the room, just to find the bodyguard and the driver sitting on the
sofa in the living room, watching TV. As for Laura, she was sitting in the kitchen, fiddling with her
phone.
The scene appeared calm⦠however, she was conflicted about how they seemed to be treating her
house as their own.
âAvery, are you hungry?â Laura placed down her phone and brought out the leftover food.
Avery walked to the living room and said to the driver, âYour boss should be waking up soon. G o back
and get a set of clean clothes.â
The driver immediately stood. âOkay.â
After the driver left, Avery turned off the TV and said to the bodyguard, âMy mom has a migraine, and
she canât stand loud noises. If youâre staying here, just keep quiet.â
The bodyguard dared not object. After all, his boss was still in her bed, and he did not know when he
would wake up. What if he slept until late at night?
The bodyguardâs fear came to pass. It was six oâclock and the sky was rapidly darkening, but Elliot
showed no signs of waking up.
Laura spoke to Avery, âAvery, Iâll stay at the hotel tonight.â
Of course, Avery disagreed, âMom, Iâll just wake him up.â
The bodyguard interrupted, âHeâs a patient! He needs to rest! Donât wake him up!â
Avery glared at the bodyguard. âThis is my home!â
The bodyguard said to Laura, âMadam Laura, Iâll pay for the hotel room!â
After that, he took out his wallet, took a few hundred dollars, and handed them to Laura.
âMadam Laura, take it!â The bodyguardâs voice was rough, and he sounded angry.
Laura was a little scared of him.
Avery chimed in, âMom, take it!â
They should just take the money!
Laura took the money, but she felt a little uneasy. âAvery, iâll go and find a hotel.â
Avery suggested, âMom, donât go yet. Itâs still early, and he should wake up later.â
The bodyguard offered, âMadam Laura, Iâll take you to the hotel. Mr. Elliot wonât necessarily g o back
when he wakes up, and itâs already so late.â
The bodyguard was a prophet! As soon as he took Laura away, Elliot woke up. Avery reached out to
check his temperature.
It was normal.
âYouâve slept all afternoon, and itâs getting dark now. Get up and go home quickly!â Avery took the fresh
set of clothes the driver had brought in the afternoon to him.
Elliot surveyed the room with his bloodshot eyes.
âGet up! This is the only bed in our house!â Avery urged.
Hearing this, Elliot said hoarsely, âIâm dizzy-â
Avery said, âStop pretending! I touched your forehead just now, and your temperature is normal!â
Elliot started to cough. It was so bad that Avery thought that he might cough out his insides. Avery
pursed her lips and did not say anything. Even though he no longer had a fever, it did not mean he had
fully recovered. Then, Avery walked out of the room and asked the driver for
help.
âElliotâs awake, but he said he canât get upââ
The driver said, âIf he canât get up, let him continue to sleep! Iâll go back and get his medicine.
After saying that, the driver left. Avery rubbed her temples. Did she really have no choice but to let him
stay overnight?
