Chapter 3
The President's Gift is a New Wife
âLuckily, the patient was sent to the hospital in time. Heâs out of danger now.â Hearing that, Hannah was relieved. As long as Godrick was fine, she was not afraid if people misunderstood her. She believed that time would prove that she was wronged. After twenty-four hours of intensive care, Godrick woke up. As soon as he regained consciousness, the butler reported Hannahâs condition to him according to his instruction. âCall them and⦠tell them to come hereâ¦â It took a long time for Godrick to finish a sentence. âAlso⦠call the Civil Affairs Bureauâ¦â The butler had worked for Godrick for many years. Before Godrick could finish his words, he understood him immediately. âDonât worry, sir. Iâll arrange it right away.â Hearing that calmed Goddrick down. After getting the call from the butler, Calvin rushed over to the hospital. However, Hannah was already there, waiting in the ward. She had changed her clothes, and her bruises on her wrist were covered under her long sleeves. As soon as Calvin arrived, some men from the Civil Affairs Bureau also arrived at the same time. âWhy are they here?â Suddenly, Godrick took Hannahâs hand and pointed at Calvin, âGet⦠Get married.â âAre you kidding me?â Calvin was frustrated. He did not want to get involved in such an absurd farce. âIâ¦â
However, before Godrick could finish his words, the monitor beside the bed began to beep. A nurse rushed in, and regardless of Calvinâs identity, she rebuked loudly, âThe patient canât be emotionally agitated now. Canât youempathize with your fatherâs condition?â Hearing that, Calvin remained silent.
He knew his family could not afford to lose another member. The whole marriage registration process lasted less than five minutes. Not only did the butler bring all the necessary documents, but the people from the Civil Affairs Bureau were very efficient too. They even prepared the marriage certificate on the spot. After filling in all the forms, both Hannahâs and Calvinâs full names were imprinted on that piece of marriage certificate paper together. The pungent smell of disinfectant and the white wardroom marked the beginning of Hannahâs marriage to Calvin. Holding the marriage certificate in her hand, Hannah could not believe it. From beginning to end, no one asked for her opinion. She was like a puppet and everything had been arranged for her. Nonetheless, she understood why Godrick did that. He did that for her sake. Even dying on the bed, Godrick was still trying his best to protect her. Now that things had come to this stage, she seemed to have no choice but to accept it. When the people in the ward gradually receded, Hannah went forward and massaged Godrickâs legs. She used to do that in the past. Nonetheless, she had her back facing Calvin and did not even bother to take a look at him.
Standing aside, Calvin was piqued when he saw Hannah trying to pretend like an obedient girl. Look, sheâs pretending again. Sheâs so wayward and cunning, but she pretends like a nice and obedient little girl. Who could see through her if it werenât for Liamâs death? Calvin was very certain that Hannah had been looking for a way out for herself. He knew it from the moment he took her to the car after Liamâs funeral. After Liam passed away, Hannah was restricted everywhere in the Fullerton family. Not only that, she was getting despised by almost everyone in Greenville. She knew she had to do something to take everything back, and the shortcut was to marry Calvin. Calvin always knew Hannah had a crush on him. Sheâs so shameless! âLiam just passed away. I wonât hold a wedding ceremony or make it public.â Godrick knew that Calvinâs willingness to get married was the limit, so he had no objection to his requests. It took Calvin a lot of effort to suppress the photos from leaking out. Calvin was a six-foot-
two-tall man, and Hannah looked so petite whenever they were together. Calvin took a look at Godrick, who was resting with his eyes closed. He whispered in Hannahâs ear and warned, âDonât you dare take photos and post them on the Internet like yesterday again. It will only make you a laughing stock in Greenville.â âIt wasnât meâ¦â Hannah tried to explain. However, Calvin did not even want to listen. With a gloomy face, he sneered, âYouâve done so much just to marry me. Youâve had a crush on me for so many years, and how do you feel now when you finally got what you wanted? Are you happy? Do you have any idea what youâve done? Youâre trampling over Liamâs body, do you know that?â Hearing that, Hannah was shocked. When did he find out that I like him? And if he knows I like him, how could he still treat me like this? Hannah was stupefied. In fact, Hannahâs last hope vanished after hearing Calvinâs words. However, she pretended she was not bothered at all. She tried to keep herself calm and forced a smile. âHave a good rest. Iâm going to work,â she said to Godrick. Hearing that, Godrick patted her hand to show that he understood. As soon as Hannah walked out the door, she met Miranda and Tracy Elkins, the daughter of the Elkins family. âAunt Miranda!â she gasped. Miranda had no idea why Godrick was sent to the hospital. Although she also thought Hannah was responsible for Liamâs death, she did not avenge her because of Godrick. Nonetheless, she had been ignoring Hannah. The moment Tracy passed by Hannah, her eyes were glowing with malevolence. She could not forgive Hannah who did not save Liam. Besides, Hannah could not wait to get close with Calvin just to save herself. If Liam knew it, he would be so heartbroken. Tracy had sworn to make Hannah pay for what she had done to make up for the loss of her love. Those pictures of Hannah and Calvin in the basement yesterday were only a small warning. Tracy wanted Calvin to suspect Hannah. With that, no one in Greenville would believe her. However, it seemed that Hannah was glad to meet Tracy. After all, they were good friends. Although there was a misunderstanding because of Liam, Tracy did not blame her. So many things had happened in the past two days, and Hannah really wanted to have a good talk with Tracy. âTracyâ¦â she whispered. Nodding, Tracy replied softly. âDonât be afraid. Iâm here with you.â
Hearing that, Hannah was so touched. She wanted to say something. However, as soon as she raised her head again, Tracy had already entered the ward. In Greenville, the Elkins family was the second richest family after the Fullerton family. Tracy was going to marry Liam. They were such a perfect match. Before the accident, Tracy was Hannahâs best friend, and that was the reason Hannah did not dare to tell her the truth. She was scared it would be too unbearable for Tracy. She did not even have the courage to mention what really happened that night to her. Suddenly, the scene of Liamâs death came to Hannahâs mind. If it was not because of the truck, she was sure that the person lying under the tomb was her. At that time, Liamâs eyes were full of killing intent. It seemed that he was not the person Hannah used to know. He looked like a total stranger. Why did Liam choose me from the orphanage?
Suddenly, this question came to Hannahâs mind. Honk! The loud honk suddenly made Hannah come back to her senses. She looked up and saw a black Porsche. A handsome man stuck his head out of the window and looked at her with a smile. Hannah looked at the man in surprise. For the first time in a month, she smiled. âJay?â
