Chapter 6

4. Divorce Decision

Divorced Yet Married

Author's POV

The next morning, when Ishika woke up, her body ached from sleeping while sitting. Every muscle in her body seemed to cry out, echoing the pain she had felt the night before. The events of the previous night replayed in her mind, each memory more painful than the last. Her eyes, dry and lifeless, long run out of tears. There was no trace of emotion left inside her, only an empty numbness that weighed heavily on her chest.

She slowly made her way to the bathroom, her body heavy with exhaustion. She washed her face in the cold water, trying to shake off the numbness that clung to her.

After freshening up, she sank into the armchair by the window, alone, staring blankly into the distance. The world outside blurred before her, as if it no longer existed, and her mind began to drift.

Memories of her life with Sahil came flooding back, each one a bitter reminder of the shattered dreams she had once held so dearly. She had believed that marrying the love of her life would heal the emptiness she had felt after losing her parents-that their love would be her refuge, a place to find comfort and peace. But nothing had turned out as she had imagined. Instead, each day had become a deeper descent into darkness.

Her life, which she had hoped would be filled with love, had become a nightmare. The loneliness she had felt before marriage seemed like nothing compared to the isolation she now faced within their broken home. The weight of it all was suffocating, and as time passed, it only became more unbearable.

As she sat there, a quiet but powerful realization washed over her: their marriage had been a mistake. All the love, the hopes, and dreams had withered away, leaving her trapped in a relationship that had become nothing but a hollow shell. Forcing herself to continue in this loveless marriage was only deepening the pain.

Tears stung at her eyes, but they didn't fall. Instead, she let out a shaky breath as she made up her mind. She had to let go-for both of their sakes. Divorce was the only way to free them from this torment, to give them both a chance to live without pretending, without the constant pain.

It was the only way to fix what had long been broken inside her.

She decided she couldn't wait any longer-it was time to face him and end this once and for all. Her hands trembled as she reached for her phone and dialed his number.

The phone rang twice before his deep, familiar voice cut through the silence.

"What is it?"He asked.

"Are you free today?" she asked, her voice steady, but her heart racing.

He sighed, clearly irritated. "Have you called me just to ask that?"

The coldness in his tone stung, but she pressed on,"I need to talk to you. It's important. Can we meet at your office?" Her words were quiet, but the weight of them hung in the air.

There was a pause on the other side before he finally responded, "Fine. Meet me after 2 p.m., as I'm swamped with work."

"Okay, I-" But before she could finish, the line went dead. He had hung up on her, cutting off her voice just like he had been cutting her out of his life for so long.

The silence that followed was deafening. It was clear to her now that what she had decided was best for both of them.

At 2 Pm, Sahil's Office

Ishika arrived at Sahil's office, her heart racing as she stepped into the sleek building. She moved toward the elevator, feeling the weight of the decision she was about to make pressing down on her. The ride up to his floor felt endless, each second filled with the echoes of what she was about to say. As the elevator doors slid open, she stepped out and was greeted by Sahil's assistant.

"Can I meet him now?" she asked, her voice calm despite the storm raging inside her.

"Of course, madam. Sir is free right now," he replied with a smile.

Ishika nodded, her legs feeling heavy as she walked toward his office. She paused for a moment outside the door, drawing a deep breath before knocking.

The reply came almost immediately "Come in."

She pushed the door open and stepped inside. Sahil was seated behind his desk, engrossed in a file, his brow furrowed in concentration.

For a moment, he didn't look up, but the second the familiar scent of her perfume reached him, he froze. Slowly, as if drawn by a force he couldn't resist, he lifted his gaze.

There she stood-his wife-gazing back at him, but something in her eyes had changed. There was something unsettling about her. Her eyes were completely devoid of emotion.

He gazed at her for a few moments, his brow arched in question. With a flick of his hand, he gestured for her to sit.

She took a deep breath before settling into the seat opposite her husband.

As his patience began to wane, he asked her, "What is it you want to discuss?" his voice flat, masking his emotions completely.

When she heard the question, her hands clutched the dupatta of her suit tightly, the fabric crumpling in her grip as it felt like the only thing grounding her.
