Chapter 12
The Most Loving Marriage: Don't Be Too Bad, Mr President
It had gotten pretty late when Annabelle printed out her resignation letter. She handed it over to the HR department, tidied her belongings and left the office.
She had made arrangement with TuanTuan in the evening to shop for some daily necessities. She called for a cab and head directly to TuanTuanâs shared location.
When the girls met, TuanTuan immediately clung unto her and urged for a tittle-tattle about the office incident. And Annabelle had to spend the next five minutes cagily explaining.
âCan the two of you not be so cliché?â TuanTuan remarked, âAnd did he really failed to recognize you?â
âI would like to think so,â Annabelle smiled bitterly, âSometimes life is just like a movie. But if he had known who I am, he wouldnât have reacted that way.â
All the drama got Dorie frisky. She shoved a spoon right in the face of Annabelle and asked sportively, âDear Miss Xia, may I ask for your kind time for a short interview?â
âYes you may,â Annabelle replied playfully along.
âMay I ask whatâs on your mind when your ex-husband couldnât recognize you?â
Annabelle pretended to think hard, and answered earnestly, âI thanked God.â
âPerhaps also a little, tiny mini bit of... disappointment?â Dorie asked cheekily.
âNope.â Annabelle replied instantly.
*Clap clap*
âWe hereby authenticate that Miss Xia, you are no ordinary woman!â
Annabelle burst into a cheerful laughter, âAnd youâre corn nuts, hahaha!â
The mood was lightened up. Dorie turned down a notch and asked concernedly, âYou have been his wife for some good years. I think anyone else in your shoe wouldâve felt disgruntled, or definitely a bit offended with the fact that he didnât even recognize you...â
âTo be fair, my heart was all set to leave that time. So I guess there was no room for other emotions.â Annabelle replied.
âWhatâs the plan now? Resigning?â
âYup, the letter is ready and will be submitted for processing first thing tomorrow!â
âGonna find a new job?â
Annabelle nodded enthusiastically, âOf course. With my credentials that would be easy like ABC.â
Well, no dispute over that.
âNo matter whatâs your decision, you have my full support!â Dorie said encouragingly.
Cheers!
Thus began their celebratory drinking.
After a while, Dorie excused herself to the restroom.
As she approached the corner in the hallway, out came a waitress from the blind spot in the opposite direction. She was holding a serving tray and the unexpected brush threw her off balance. The sitting cup of drink was then splashed aside.
âAHHH!!â
Everyone in the diner turned their head to the alarming shriek.
The victim was a young lady, presumably wealthy judging by her choice of quality fabric and stylish dress. She screamed as droplets from the steaming hot coffee splashed onto her. She fixed her glare on Dorie, a fresh swell of molten rage rose in her and flowed through her like lava.
âARE YOU BLIND?! OR DO YOU WALK WITH YOUR EYES CLOSED?!â
Annabelle was at loss of words when she saw who was speaking.
It was Yoi!
Dorie was irritated by her rudeness. However, as she was partly liable for the accident, she decided to be a gentlewoman and quickly apologized, âIâm so sorry, it wasnât intentional.â
âDo you think a simple SORRY would suffice?! Do you know how much this (dress) cost!? Youâve ruined my day!â Yoi continued to make a fuss and she was boiled in anger.
