Chapter 9

Loving Angel

"Young Miss, your second eldest brother is calling for you downstairs immediately"

My eyes shoot open and the upper half of my body rises from the bed.

My vision found a middle aged woman standing besides me. She wore what looked like a uniform.

"I have laid out your outfit for the day, will you need help putting it on?"

Help putting it on?

I know she was being serious, and I should've not done what I did, but a small giggle escaped me.

My hands slam against my mouth as soon as that noice left me.

The woman just stares at me with curious but cautious eyes. "I'm sorry, but no thank you, I can do it" I said quietly, feeling embarrassed and ashamed.

"I'll take my leave" She says and walks away hastily.

Looking at the chair where the outfit laid down I rip the covers off and tidy up my bed, making it look nice again.

Wait. Where is Elias?

He left.

Is okay, he has things to do and I can't expect anymore then what he has done for me. I need to stop wanting more then what I deserve.

Feeling grateful for having a kind brother, I smile.

Unfolding the clothes the woman had put together a smile grew on my face. It was a pretty green dress with tights. I was thankful for that as my legs were covered in disgusting marks.

Taking off my pajamas I slid the clothes on. I had to hurry. Running to the bathroom I washed my teeth and face. And of course I had to brush my hair.

Fastly walking downstairs I noticed Romeo was waiting at the door while smoking. Him and Elias are always smoking.

I walked towards him as the woman told me he needed me. Is he going to make me clean? I can do that, Im actually very good at it.

When he saw me he put his cigarette away, "Mateo already left for school and the twins went out with Macy. No one will be back till very late at night, so do you want to stay here alone or come with me to work?"

I don't wanna be alone.

"I'll go!" It accidentally comes out louder then necessary.

Romeo nods and opens the door waiting for me to go out first.

I'm glad I decided to get fully ready before coming down here.

Noticing he's been holding it for longer then he should I try to walk out the door as fast as I can. I don't want his arm to get tired.

Next thing I know i'm on the floor laying on my side. I tripped. As soon as I fell Romeo placed his hands under my arms and lifted me back up on my feet.

"It was an accident, i'm-" I quickly say but get cut off.

"Is fine" Romeo says dryly and holds my hand on our way towards the car.

...

Romeo parks the car in front of a black building. Im guessing this is where he works.

Once Romeo pulls out the key he starts speaking, "Elias had to leave due to a work emergency, he wanted me to tell you that he'll be back for dinner"

At this I felt happiness i've never felt before. I looked at Romeo and smiled, grateful that he told me.

Romeo glanced at me through the mirror, lit up a cigarette and got out of the car.

Walking behind Romeo I get closer to him when he opens the door that's reveals the room full with man. Almost stepping on his shoe from getting too close.

Man up Angelica.

Although I repeat this to myself as we walk by the man in the room it doesn't do much help to calm my nerves.

Romeo leads us in the back of the building where there is a small office, away from the costumer and workers.

Telling me to go in, I step inside the room.

"Stay here and don't go out" Without saying another word he leaves.

I take a shaky breath.

It would've been the same if I had stayed home.

...

After a few hours of drawing on line paper with a pen my stomach started to grumble. I'm hungry. Romeo hasn't been back.

I decided to ignore it but the more time that passed the more hungry I got, making my stomach burn.

If I drink a lot of water it'll go away. But there's no water here!

Standing up from my criss cross position I look around the room in hopes to see water. I see a two dollars.

My eyebrows scrunch together at the sounds of stomach grumbling again.

I'm sure Romeo won't be back until a few hours. I'm sure he won't notice this money gone either. It's for a good cause. The nasty side of my mind says.

Taking the two dollars in my hand I look at the door.

Slowly twisting door knob it opens with a click. It's not locked.

I peek my head out. There's an exit there.

I think about it again. If i'm fast enough i'll make it back with food and no trouble. I just can't get caught. My mind can't decide wether I should do it. My stomach stars burning again, last time I didn't drink water I threw up from the hunger. There's no water here.

Without giving it another taught I opened the door, closed it, and went out from the exit.

I'll just buy water and chug it, no evidence that I went out no trouble.

...

Romeos POV:

I try to hurry up since Elias made it clear he wanted me and Angelica back for dinner. He's been putting work aside since she came back.

I don't mind, I know he loves her, but it worry's me. Elias never procrastinates, and he's been doing that a lot these past days. If he continues like this he puts all of us in danger. Our people and our sanity. We can't be killing more then we have to to save our asses.

We want to get out of this business, for her.

The thought of Angelica makes me look at the time. 6:36. Dinners at 7 today.

I finish up the last details of the tattoo and put out my cigarette.

Walking to my office I open to door to find no one in sight.

She's probably somewhere around here. I've noticed she gets anxious when left alone so there's no way she would have left the building.

Looking through the hallways I check the restrooms, but she's nowhere.

Shit. She's gone.

Pulling out my phone I call Elias. He's going to be pissed.

"Romeo"

"Elias, Angelica's gone"

There was a small silence on the other side of the line.

"¿Que puta madre quieres decir conque se a ido?" (What the fuck do you mean she's gone?)

Definitely mad.

"I told her not to leave the office but when I come back she's not here, I'm sure she left"

"No she wouldn't do that without a reason...E se qualcuno l'avesse presa?" (What if someone took her?) Elias whispers the last sentence.

"We both know damn well that's not possible" I say deadly serious. I try to think of a reason why she would leave but nothing comes to mind so I don't say anything else.

"I'm on my way, be ready when I get there" Elias says and ends the call.

He sounded more then mad. Knowing Elias he's probably pissed Angelica left without saying anything. But I also know he's not just mad, he's scared that we will loose her again.

The chances of that are slim, but then again they aren't impossible.

We need to find her before sun goes down.

Angelica was careless for leaving, but if she's still out there by the time it gets dark I know she'll start getting scared.

...

Angelicas POV:

I remember seeing a corner of the busy street earlier that had little stands. I'm sure they sell cheap water there.

As I walked through the streets of New York I felt like a big girl. Like a normal person. What I was doing was new, too new. It was so exiting. I was fascinated by everything I saw.

Turning around I saw a lady selling donuts.

Oh goodness.

They are donuts. Oh my goodness, I have to try it.

I made my way to the lady's stand. I stood in front of her and realized I didn't know what to say.

You want a donut Angelica.

"E-excuse me, how m-much are the donuts?"

The lady looks at me and smiles warmly. She grabs a donut and hands it to me. I just stare are her.

"No need to pay honey. A gift"

My eyes light up. A gift. I just received a gift.

My mouth opens into a big smile. "Thank you ma'am"

The lady smiles as I walk away.

I need to get back fast. Should I run?

I'll just speed walk.

Looking up at the sky I noticed it was getting dark. Without seeing it coming, my face is smashed into someone.

My body is harshly pushed back, luckily I don't fall back. The impact left a soreness on my arm but I wasn't looking where I was walking so is my fault.

"I'm so..." I look up to see a man with old clothes. His hair was long and knotty similar to how mine use to look.

"You hurt me" He said. My hands started to feel hot.

"I'm so sorry sir" I need to fix this before he gets mad.

"If you come with me i'll forgive ya" His eyes looked scary. I backed away from him. This only made things worse as his hand grabbed tighter into my arm. Suddenly it was freezing.

My blood felt clogged, making me like I was in the middle of a snow storm.

"Um s-sir I don't t-think I-I can" My voice was shaking in fear as his grip on me only grew tighter with every word I said.

"Shu-" The old man got cut off.

"Hey!" My head turned to where the familiar voice was coming from.

Romeo, and...Elias.
