Chapter 6 - Preparation

Meanwhile, mother Carter and Allister are standing on the opposite balcony with Mrs. Carter spying on the couple with her binoculars.

"Mom, you're too old to be spying on sis like this. You should wait for it to naturally happen like a normal mother would."

"Owww!!"

Smacking her headstrong son on the head. Mrs. Carter said:

"Unlike you men that can marry late, us women can only be fertile at certain timelines. Besides, It'll take me decades to see my grandchild if I only rely on a brat like you...ohhh!! He kissed her?! Is this a positive sign already? I'm such a genius!"

Allister taken aback snapped the binoculars from his mother's hands.

"Hell, no. That's not possible!"

If he wasn't mistaken, his little sister had been obsessed with Calvin ever since meeting him in one of the upper crust banquets, and as far as he knows Calvin had never warmed up to her, no matter what she did.

What the hell?! Was he playing with me the whole time?!

Although his sister could be annoying, it doesn't mean he would let anybody just play with her. She's still the beloved only daughter of the Carter Household.

"Where are you going? You're going to ruin the moment!"

Frustrated, Mrs. Carter followed Allister towards the stairs. He wants to confront his friend on his true intentions towards his sister.

"Oh, there you guys are. Hello Mrs. Carter, I will have to leave soon but I would like to say that you've raised a great daughter Mrs. Carter. We talked just now and decided to go through the engagement. We will announce it next week at the Harrison's Banquet."

"What?!"

Both of them exclaimed in surprise. Even for Mrs. Carter who eagerly wants to have her daughter married, this was too soon! Nevertheless, she is undoubtedly happy. Calvin is the young master of the one of the 4 powerful clans in Walden City. It was rumored as well that he has the blood line of the last royalty. Their roots are deep & it'll be an honor to be part of such a family.

Then Calvin tapped Allister on the back. Seeing Mr. Carter looking puzzled at the scene when he just came in, mother-and-son looked flabergasted at Calvin.

"Mr. Carter, I would like to discuss something with you. May I have a bit of your time?"

Seeing his wife's shining eyes, he guessed that her wish had came true.

"Of course, let's go to my study."

"Achoo!..."

Feeling a little cold, Aila decided to go back inside the house. She seemed to have this feeling of foreboding all of a sudden.

When she turned around the corner, she was bombarded immediately by her mother & brother.

"Dear, I'm so happy for you. It's been a dream of mine to have you off married to such a gentleman. I'll make sure your wedding will be the talk of the century!"

Marriage?! I'm just getting engaged! Wait a minute...Calvin already told everyone on the get go? Why is he in a rush?!

"I didn't know behind that cold face of his, he was already smitten by you sis. I have to hand it to you. Do you know how many women have thrown themselves at him just to get crumbs of his affection?"

From this body's memory it goes by the thousands apparently. I hope he didn't catch any venereal disease from all of that, right? Arrgghh...I should get myself tested one of these days.

Seeing both of them genuinely happy for her, she started to feel guilty. The real Aila should be experiencing this but at the same time she was thankful that she transmigrated to a warm and supportive family. It'll certainly break their heart in the future if they found out this was all a scam.

"I was surprised too. I didn't think he would notice me after all this years."

Faking a few tears of joy, Aila remembered her role as a lovestruck idiot infront of this male lead.

For my fairytale ending, I will endure!

"What would you be wearing at the banquet dear? Oh I know, I found this beautiful new season haute couture at the House of Paris. This would look absolutely great on you!"

"What banquet?"

"The Harrison's Banquet in a week. Don't tell me you forgot? You were the one hounding me about it endlessly before."

"Calvin will announce your engagement in the event sis, its the first time I'm seeing him this serious."

Wait a minute....wasn't this banquet where the harem will show up together after their trip abroad?!

Wouldn't I be a laughing stock if that male lead decided to act like a dog infront of everybody to the female lead?

But hold up...if he screws up, I could use that as an excuse that he violated the contract right? & I'll be free faster!

Seeing her daughter's shining eyes, Mother Carter no doubt thought that she is definitely happy with the information.

"Mother, I trust you. Make me a goddess in that event!"

If I'm gonna be humiliated anyway, might as well go down with style. Who knows, some other rich noveau might take pity on my beauty...hehehe...

"Don't worry dear, you'll be the talk of town for days!"

I'll make sure Calvin can't take his eyes off her daughter. Her dream of grandmotherhood will come sooner than later!

Allister on the side watching the interaction.
