7 | WATCHING OVER HAYLEY HAPPILY

WAR OF HEARTS • hayley marshall

Once at home, Khalia took an exhusted Hayley to her bed before going downstairs to talk to her siblings. She was livid and her blood was boiling because someone had try to hurt Hayley and wanted to spill blood. A lot of it too. She craved the feeling of warm blood trickling down her throat and her hands as she held a heart in her hands.

"I say we go and murder the lot of them in their sleep right now." The brunette immortal said in a dark tone as she entered the study. Klaus was sitting at the desk and Rebekah was leaning against it when she entered. The two looked at their sister and then back at each other again with a sigh.

"Unfortunately, we can't." Klaus said bitterly. Just like Khalia, he wanted to spill some blood but just a lot less than she wanted to.

"Why?" She asked in a tone that resembled a whine.

"Because I made a deal with Sophie and no matter how much I want to break it, I won't risk losing Hayley or that baby." Klaus told her and the girl sighed heavily.

"Very well." Khalia agreed, nodding her head as she did so. "What are we going to do then? Because we can't just let this slide."

"Of course not. Not only did they hurt Hayley but they harmed you." Rebekah chimed in.

"Which is why I will have a chat with Sophie in the morning." Klaus added on and Khalia smiled in satisfaction.

"And I found Elijah. Don't worry. He's alright for now but he is going to try and win over Davina's loyalty if she's not a threat to our family." The female blonde informed her siblings. Although Khalia has calmed down, her blood lust was still high. So, she decided to do what she hasn't done since she entered the city.

"I'm going out. But call me in the morning. I want to be here for the chat." She informed her siblings, who nodded, knowing what she was about to do and they knew they couldn't stop her. She was about to get high off blood.

It was in the early hours of the morning when Khalia got a call from her sister, telling her to come home because Klaus was out fetching the witch and would soon be back. She finished draining the man she was feeding of, and it was long past the hundredth victim, and went home.

"We had a deal! You protect my unborn child, I dismantle Marcel's army. And whilst I've been busy fulfilling my part of the bargain, you allowed Hayley to be attacked and almost killed by a gaggle of lunatic witches." Khalia heard her brother shout angrily as she entered her home.

"I had nothing to do with it, I swear. Hayley and I are linked, remember? She dies, I die." Sophie defends herself frantically but that didn't do the trick for Kol's twin and she sped to the living room.

"Somehow, my mind isn't at ease." Khalia commented in a dark tone, glaring at the witch as she entered the room. Sophie's eyes widened to a comical degree at the sight of the brunette Original but her siblings wasn't even a little fazed. They were used to seeing her like this. Her entire upper body full of semi- dried blood. Khalia was a messy drinker.

"Then who were they?" Rebekah questioned, obviously confused.

Sophie shook herself out of her shocked state and turned to the blonde with a sigh, "They are a faction of extremists. Sabine stupidly told them about some vision she had about the baby."

"What kind of vision?" Klaus asked suspiously and Khalia narrowed her eyes at the witch.

"She has them all the time. They are totally open to interpretation. I'm guessing she's wrong on this one." Sophie told the Mikaelson trio in front of her.

"Well, how, may I ask, was this particular vision interpreted?" Klaus asked the witch, raising his eyebrows slightly.

"...Pretty much that your baby would bring death to all witches." The witch said and Khalia smiled.

"I don't see a problem with that." The immortal brunette commented bluntly, making her siblings smirk smugly and Sophie scowl. "Besides that seems more like a you problem than an us problem." She added on with an unbothered shrug.

"And I grow fonder of this child by the second." Klaus commented, adding on to what Khalia said - making the brunette vampire laugh softly in amusement.

"Sophie, look- I promised Elijah that I would protect the Mikaelson miracle-baby whilst he tries to win your witch Davina's loyalty. Why don't you tell me just how extreme this faction is?" Rebekah conversed with the witch and Khalia's thoughts drifted back to the teenage witch. She never liked witches to start with and her brother was in the hands of a witch that is not only powerful enough to take an Original down, but also powerful enough to wipe the memory of an Original. And that scared Khalia more than she would like to admit.

"Elijah's talking to Davina?" Khalia heard Sophie ask, clearly surprised and shocked by this information. She raised an eyebrow at the witch.

"Yeah. As we speak, I imagine." The blonde vampire confirmed, nodding her head slightly.

"I'm guessing she'll have plenty to say about that crowd." The witch told the Mikaelson trio, making Khalia wonder just what the hell went on in this town before they came back.

"Do tell." The Hybrid ordered, intrigued but in all honesty, the brunette vampire couldn't care less. She just wanted to sleep, the exhaustion catching up with her.

"I... wasn't always an advocate for the witches." Sophie slowly began her story.

"Somehow that doesn't surprise me." Khalia remarked bluntly.

"My sister was devoted, like our parents, and our upbringing was very strict, which drove me nuts. The minute I turned twenty-one, I left the Quarter to travel... and play. But, I wanted to be a chef, so I came back to Rousseau's. It was then when my sister, Jane-Anne told me about the harvest." Sophie told them, ignoring the craziest Original.

"What the bloody hell is a Harvest?" The blonde female questioned clearly confused and Khalia mirrored her.

"It's a ritual our coven does every three centuries so that the bond to our ancestral magic is restored. We appease our ancestors, they keep our ancestral power flowing." Sophie explained and Khalia shot her a disgusted look.

"So, basically you kill your own kind to keep your magic?" Khalia said with a huff. "And you have the audacity to call us vampires sadistic."

"And why haven't I heard of this?" The Hybrid asked and Khalia rolled her eyes. He didn't even like witches, never mind talk to them, why would he know of it?

"Because a Harvest always seemed like a myth. A story, passed on through generations like Noah's ark, or the Buddha walking on water. The kind some people take literally, and some people don't. They had the girls of our community preparing for months. Four would be chosen for the Harvest. They said that it was an honour, that they were special. I thought it was a myth." That was when Khalia explode.

"Children? They used innocent children? Why didn't they use that old hag? What's her name again? Angie? Aggie?" Khalia questioned, enraged, spitting out her words like a dragon would spit out fire. And the way Sophie flinched from her tone, it hurt like fire would. Khalia has never layed a hand on a child and didn't have much patience for people who has. It's why she stopped Klaus from killing Marcel's biological father and did it herself. After three weeks of unbearable torture.

"Agnes." Sophie corrected.

"Whatever, I don't give a shit." The immortal brunette said with a shrug, not caring at all and at down next to Klaus. The witch signed her own death warrant when she sent a bunch of witches to attack and, more likely than not, kill Hayley.

"Was it?" Rebekah asked and Sophie looks guilty, but before she can say anything, Klaus's cell phone rings. He sees that it's Marcel, stands up and answers it as Khalia used her vampire hearing to listen in on the conversation.

"Marcel. Bit early in the day for you, isn't it?" Klaus answered the phone in an obviously faked politeness and Khalia snickered and Klaus threw her a glare.

"I know, I make this look easy, but I still have an empire to run." Marcel's voice came through the phone.

Klaus smiled fakely, even though it was over the phone and the younger vampire couldn't see him. "Rather you than me. All that responsibility seems like such a bore." Khalia snorted and had to bit her tongue to keep herself from sarcastically saying, 'so that's why you're not trying to steal his, sorry, our city back?'

"Well, this might spice things up- I just heard about a bunch of dead witches out in the Bayou. The kinda damage a werewolf might do, only there was no full moon. I have an informant out there I need to meet, and I would love for you to go with me." Marcel told his sire and Khalia didn't even bother to hide the smirk on her face. Should she ever meet that werewolf, she'll throw him or her a bloody party.

"Dead witches in the Bayou. Sounds like less of a problem, and more like a cause for celebration." Klaus told the younger vampire and Khalia snorted in amusement when she saw the witch in the room glare at her Hybrid brother.

"Well, something killed them. And may still be out there. And with your blood the only cure for a werewolf bite, I would love for you to accompany me." Marcel explained and Khalia frowned. She didn't want Marcel to go out there and kill whatever saved Hayley. She felt that she owed the wolf in some kind of a way.

"Oh, why not? Haven't been to the Bayou in ages. I'm on my way." The Hybrid agreed and Khalia looked at her brother. He'd better not help Marcel in killing the wolf that helped his pregnant baby mama.

"Peace out, brother." Marcel told him and hung up.

"Niklaus, you better not let Marcel kill the werewolf that saved Hayley." The brunette told her brother, still frowning heavily.

"I won't." He assured her and the frown on Khalia's face turned into a grinned when Hayley entered the living room, a cup of tea in her hands. Pink tinted the werewolf's cheeks when she saw that Khalia was looking at her with a smile. Warmth spread through her body and she grinned.

Sophie, having heard Klaus' end of the conversation, looks at him in concern. "You can't go out there now. I need to gather the witches' remains and consecrate them. If I don't get to them before sundown, we'll lose the link to their magic." She turned to Khalia.

"Khalia, please." She begged and Khalia just rolled her eyes. She didn't care what happened to those witches. They are the ones that tried to kill Hayley. In her books they got off to easy.

"Those witches tried to kill Hayley. I'd prefer for Marcel's informant not to find anything that would lead him back to us, to her, or to... you know..." He points at Hayley's stomach. "That." The Hybrid finished awkwardly, making Khalia snicker.

"Ladies, I present to you the most perfect daddy material in the world." The brunette immortal girl said sarcastically and pointed to Klaus. He glared at her and she smirked at him. Hayley laughed lightly and Sophie smiled at the brunette vampire.

The pregnant werewolf rolled her eyes, "You are all class." At this, Khalia laughed lightly and Hayley began to look for a place to sit. Seeing this, the brunette vampire patted the spot next to her, where Klaus used to sit. The werewolf eagerly sat down next to the vampire.

The Hybrid points at Sophie, "Stay put. And save the rest of your story 'til I return."

"And what about me?" Khalia asked, standing up as Klaus began to walk out of the house. The fact that Hayley was sitting next to her was making her nervous and she didn't like it but had long since come to accept the fact that the pregnant girl brought out feelings in her that she didn't know existed.

"You watch over Hayley!" The Hybrid yelled to her.

"Okay!" She yelled back, a small smile on her face before she plopped down on the couch, next to Hayley, to do her duty that she had raised no objections to and she didn't mind to do it either. And the way she didn't complain about having to watch over her, made Hayley grin happily. She took a chance and scooted closer to Khalia.

The vampire tensed briefly before she relaxed. And the werewolf's smile widened.
