16 | REBEKAH'S BETRAYAL
WAR OF HEARTS • hayley marshall
Hayley Marshall knows what it feels like to be alone. To be the only one fighting for yourself. Right now she is with Elijah in the Bayou, and yet she feels alone. Yesterday she found out what her birth name is, after spending all of her teenage years looking for her family. The werewolf is supposed to think about Elijah and how to try and make him comfortable, but all she can think about is Khalia. About how much she wants to tell her that she thinks her real name is Andrea Labonair. About how sorry she is for doubting Klaus. About how much she misses her.
The cold, hard look in the female vampireâs eyes flashed in front of her eyes once again and she opened her eyes as fast as she closed them. Itâs all sheâs able to see every time she rests her eyes for even a second. Somehow, Hayley feels as if she betrayed Khalia by siding with Elijah. The way they left things, itâs haunting her. She even imagined that she saw Khalia in the trees earlier when she went out for some air. Coughs from Elijah brings her out of her thoughts and she rushes to his side. The pregnant girl is immediately transported into a memory in the dark haired Originalsâ mind.
âCome on, Elijah, it will be fun.â Khalia tried with a teasing smile, her arm was slung around Kolâs shoulders and his arm wrapped around his twin sistersâ waist. They were the image of mischief. Their playful eyes and their teasing smiles, matching each otherâs perfectly.
âNo.â The noble Original refused sharply â these two are out of their minds alone, but together, he fears for the entire Crescent City. Now they want to go out on a hunting game, every person that comes up to them and asks to buy a drink â be it man or woman â they will kill and the ones who stay away will be left alive.
The twinsâ rolled their eyes in unison, âFine, be a bore, brother. But we are going out and we are going to have some fun.â Kol declared and the two turned to skip out of the room as if they were toddlers instead of eight-hundred year old vampires who are about to kill a lot of people. He shook his head in exaggeration as he listened in on their conversation. They were plotting on how to best irritate Klaus once they got home â something along the lines of putting dead octopuses in his bed.
He often thought of the two of insane, but people much rather referred to them as the Mikaelson Terror Twins. And as individuals, they were referred to as the Craziest Mikaelson â Kol â and the Wildest Mikaelson â Khalia â respectively. Yes, he thought to himself as he visually saw the bodies they would drain tonight, Terror Twins indeed.
Coming out of the memory, Hayley looked extremely stunned as she saw a different Khalia in the memory than the one she knows. âSheâs so different.â The werewolf blurted. It was true. The Khalia she now knows has no mischief in her eyes and they arenât a warm brown color, instead they are like holes of darkness and evil. And the playful smile that was practically glued to her face is gone as she rarely smiles these days.
âYes,â The eldest Mikaelson panted, sorrow for his sister in his tired eyes shining brightly. âWhen Kol died, so did a part of Khalia.â They were both quite for a while. âShe cares for you, a lot more than she would like to admit to herself.â Hayley was startled by his words.
âShe doesnât, she might even hate me right now.â The werewolf said with a shaky voice, even as she prayed that she is wrong. She could take a lot, but not Khalia Mikaelson hating her. Not since Tyler brought up the fact that she is in love with the female Mikaelson, even before that if sheâs being honest with herself.âShe walked away, remember?â
âThat is a result of a number of things. We had to bring up Kolâs death more than once during our search for you. She also had to deal with the fact that you are gone, she didnât know where you are, who had you and if you are even safe.â He took a breath. âYou must understand, Hayley, even before Kolâs death she had never felt anything with any of the woman she slept with. And now, it is even harder for her to let someone in. So, it is not only hard for her, but I think terrifying too.â He prayed that his sister wouldnât leave agai.
âRebekah told me something along the same lines, even Klaus warned me about her tendency to push people away.â The female nodded, picking up a wet cloth and dabbing his forehead â like Khalia did for her when her baby was almost killed.
âThere you go then.â He smiled lightly. âAnd as for her hating you, well, I think you are the only person on this earth â myself and our family included â that she would never be able to hate. No matter what she tells you.â Warmth spread all over Hayley and her eyes lit up at his words.
âBesides Kol you mean.â The Marshall girl added.
He nodded faintly, âYes, besides Kol.â

âI donât like this, Klaus.â The Demon Mikaelson told her Hybrid brother with a frown as they stopped in front of the Compound. Josh told them that Marcel would be alone at the Compound tonight. âI mean, why would he clear the Compound just for a date? A restaurant I can still buy, but his own personal version of the White House? No way.â There is something fishy going on, the female Mikaelson just wasnât sure what it was. Yet.
âYoung Joshua is under my compulsion. How would he lie?â The blonde countered, turning to her with raised eyebrows and his hands tucked behind his back.
âI guess he couldnât.â She relented stubbornly, pouting slightly but kept her guard up as they entered the courtyard of her former home. Marcel is one person she doesnât trust as far as she could throw him. Klaus and Khalia enters the courtyard of the compound to find Marcel standing and waiting for him. Something began nagging in Khaliaâs bones.
âKlaus.â The young vampire greeted his sire confidently, fear flashed through his eyes when he spotted the brunette Original slightly behind her brother, âKhalia.â He nodded.
âYou've been avoiding my calls.â The Hybrid pointed out.
âLittle pissed off lately.â Marcel said as an explanation. He was always bitching about something these days.
âApologies for my behavior can come later. You have something of mine. I want it back.â Klaus ordered his sireling. Marcel pulls out the silver dagger and holds it up. Khaliaâs eyes widened, there is only one way he could have that dagger. She choose not to think about that and decided to use her sass instead.
âOh, I have one just like that.â She said in fake amazement. Her eyes widening, a fake smile on her lips and her hands clasped over her chest and all. The dark-skinned vampire didnât crack a smile, so she dropped the fake attitude. âHand it over, Marcellus.â
âSorry, but I can't do that.â The young vampire denied.
âCanât or wonât?â Khalia challenged with a raised eyebrow. Marcel didnât answer, he instead holds out the dagger to his side, and Rebekah enters the courtyard and takes it from him. Klaus looks both unamused and suspicious. The brunette didnât need to be suspicious, she knew what is going on. Itâs a trap. Her blonde sister was going to try and take down their brother. The only problem was Khalia, they didnât see her coming. They didnât think sheâd care enough to come with him.
â What is this?â Klaus questioned the two, clearly still in denial. Khalia couldnât blame him, she didnât see this coming either.
âApologies for your behavior? You don't apologize, Nik. You just act. I've had enough. We have had enough.â The blonde vampire told her brother, she finally felt like a weight has been lifted from her. For a thousand years sheâs had to stand by her brotherâs side and take all of the heartbreak, pain and misery that came with being by Klaus Mikaelsonâs side.
âAnd we wonder why Niklaus is so paranoid.â Khalia mumbled under her breath as she stepped forward right by her blonde brotherâs side, but the two vampires and one Hybrid heard her clearly. Guilt panged through Rebekahâs chest, but she quickly pushed it down as she remembered that Klaus felt no guilt for hurting or daggering her for the past thousand years.
âLook at you.â Klaus started, at last putting the pieces together. Hurt rolled of him in waves. âFinally in possession of the one thing that can take you down. How does it feel?â He asked.
âWeâve both been in possession of our daggers for some time now, Nik.â Khalia pointed out and Klaus shot her a glare.
âGreat.â The blonde told him truthfully. She turned to her sister, âItâs not to late Khalia, you can still join us. Nik has daggered you and Kol countless times for being yourselves. His need for Hybrids is what caused you to loose your twin.â Khalia kept her face blank, making both Rebekah and Klaus nervous. Neither knew what side she was about to choose. But she did.
Then a vicious growl ripped from the brunette Mikaelsonâs lips as she lost control, âThat was a low blow, Rebekah. Using my twin against me?â She glared at her sister and Rebekah knew that she wasnât joining her and Marcel. âYou know, itâs funny, you go on and on about Klaus betraying you, and yet here you stand, doing the same bloody thing!â She was furious with her blonde sister. âYou want a fight, little sister? Bring it on.â Khalia didnât move an inch from Klausâ side, but her vampire face did come out and she lifted her arms as an invitation for a fight, making her look like the Demon Mikaelson she is. Marcel whistles, and a dozen or two vampires come out of the woodwork and fill the balconies.
Klaus laughs sarcastically and a humorless chuckle left Khalia. âSo this is it? The evil bastard Klaus has gone too far, must be punished. And by his own sibling, nonetheless. How positively biblical. And you, Marcel, is this-âHe points at the vampires around them. â-your idea of a hit? I taught you better than this paltry excuse for a take-down. Do you think you can subdue me with this!?â
âUm, excuse me, but donât you mean us?â Khalia asked with a smirk. Klaus matched hers and gave her a nod.
âYes, of course, us.â
The brunette turned back to the dark skinned vampire with a crazed look in her eyes. She loves a fight that will end in a bloodbath. She knew this would end in one. âHonestly, Marcel, Iâve single handedly taken down bigger armies. To be honest, Iâm a little insulted.â Khalia told them matter-of-factly, grinning maliciously at the vampires around them.
âNo. But I think I can with this.â Marcel whistles again, and dozens more vampires appear and fill the balconies. Like thatâs going to make a difference. She nearly snorted in amusement. Marcel must really think that she is weak because she isnât a Hybrid. Little did he know, she can take down Klaus. Rebekah probably forgot to mention that part to her lover.
Marcel, Rebekah, and his vampires crowd around Klaus and Khalia, who stands in the middle of the circle and spreads his arms. She just keep on her malicious grin, excited at the idea of a fight. Itâs been years since sheâs had a good fight. She briefly wonders how much of a fight these vampires will put up.
âLet's end this charade, shall we? Vampires of New Orleans! Do recall that I am an Original. A hybrid. I cannot be killed. Neither can my sister Khalia who, by the way, is the best fighter on the planet. Even better than me. Now, eternity is an awfully long time. How long, do you think, Marcel will stay in power? What if one of you lot were to release me, knowing I will be eternally in your debt? Oh, I would pity those of you who dared to cross me. I can assure you, your ends would be spectacular. To borrow a trick from an old friend-â The Hybrid reaches out his hand, which holds a large gold coin â-Whoever picks up this coin gets to live.â Klaus drops the coin on the floor in front of him. âNow, which of you magnificent bastards wants to join me?â
Khalia leaned over to her brother and whispered, âYeah, I donât think thatâs going to work.â The blonde male shot his sister a dirty look, to which she gave him an innocent grin.
âAnyone wants that coin, pledge allegiance to Klaus. Take it now. Go ahead. The choice is yours.â Marcel encourages his army. No one moves, except for Klaus, who is slightly astonished that no one picks up the coin. Khalia smirks in a told-you-so manner to her brother. Marcel looks at him, proud of the loyalty his minions show.
âTake them.â The dark skinned vampire ordered. Some of the vampires lunge for Klaus and some for Khalia, but they easily take them out. However, when Klaus stretches his arms wide on either side, two other vampires wrap his wrists in chains and bind him. They look triumphant for a moment, but Klaus' hybrid face comes out, and he growls deeply before breaking through his bonds and viciously biting and killing every vampire who comes at him.
One vampire speeds infront of Khalia with a stake, and she grabs his arm in a strong grip before twisting it and using it to stab the vampire in the heart. She rips out the hearts of a few vampires speeding at her. Bodies piled around her as she disposed of vampires with lighting speed, making her look like the Goddess of Death. A vampire jumped on her back and another took her arms in a tight grip. The brunette smirked, making the vampire in front of her loose his grip on the terrifying Original. She quickly moved her arms out of his grip and snapped his neck. As for the vampire on her back, she grabbed a fist full of his hair and ripped of his head, throwing it in the direction of Marcel and her sister.
Rebekah is paralyzed by fear as she watches Klaus and Khalia quickly gain the upper-hand. The two wear terrifying to watch, fighting lethally against the vampires going up against them. Itâs like Klaus is the Devil and Khalia his loyal Demon fighting by his side. Marcel didnât look much better, his stomach churned dangerously when the head Khalia threw landed at his feet.
Klaus stopped fighting and yelled out, âMarcel! Come and finish this!â Another head flew through the air from Khaliaâs side and Klaus glanced at his sister and saw she is in her element, a content smirk on her lips as she ripped out hearts and threw heads left and right as she fought, not only with him, but for him. She truly was the worst of the worst.
Marcel desperately rushes toward Klaus, not wanting any more of his men to die, but Rebekah holds him back. Frantically the blonde tries to stop him, âNo! Take the coin!â
âWhat?â He asked, clearly shocked by her change of mind.
âThey won't stop until everyone is dead. And then Klaus will kill you too. End this. Pick up the coin!â She tries to persuade her lover, not wanting to lose him. Now or ever. The dark skinned vampire considers this for a long moment before lunging forward.
âEnough!â Suddenly, the room falls absolutely silent, and the fighting stops, save for the brunette Mikaelson. She and the vampires around her kept going. Marcel picks up the coin off the ground and holds it up. Khalia kept going though and the young vampire eyed her with wariness, âCould you tell you looney sister to stop.â
âKHALIA!â He roared at her, full well knowing she wonât respond otherwise. The next second she stopped. Noticing the change in atmosphere and the ceased fighting, she snapped the vampire in her gripâ neck and let him drop to the ground. She sped next to her brother.
The Hybrid was clearly amused, âWell, well, well. The great Marcel, self-proclaimed king of New Orleans, bowing before me.â Marcel throws the coin at Klaus' feet, clearly unwilling to do so, but knowing he has no other choice.
âThere. I hereby pledge my allegiance to you. You have the keys to my kingdom. It's yours.â Khalia clapped her hands in victory while Klaus smiles gleefully. She then held out her bloodied hand to her brother and with a light laugh her slapped his equally bloodied palm against hers. They won, fair and square. Even if it was meant to be a trap.
âDoes this mean I get my old room back?â
