Chapter X- Veiled Secrets

Got so excited about getting a 100 votes and nearly a thousand reads that I just wrote a long chapter. You guys must be thinking what's a thousand reads. Well, for some writers like me it means a lot to know that someone is reading my work.

Derek said that I was his captive, but it felt more like I was his slave. I'm supposed to clean his room, make and take him every meal, push his wheelchair (because he dismissed the man that actually does that) and handle his sourness 24/7, while my Fabian fakes to not know me in front of him. Because he has given everyone strict orders to not talk to me. The only one that doesn't follow his orders is Vanessa that between arguing with her mate and her brother, she found in me a friend.

"What took you so long?" he demands as I get into his room. The nurse there ready to make his daily routine of physiotherapy.

"I have biological needs, your highness." that last part was sarcastic, he's an asshole.

"You only have biological needs when I call you?" he asks and seriously I want to murder him.

"I don't know how it works for your kind, but for mare humans we can't tell when it's going to happen. It just happened that I wanted to pee when you called me." I say in a forced smile.

"When I call you, you are to come before you even breath again." he says coldly, I can't believe he's being serious about this.

"I will make sure to notify you every time I take a piss. I won't even mind if you join me in the bathroom, since I can't leave your sight." I say and practically throw the tray with his morning coffee on the table that was in the room. Difference between Derek and Chloe, Chloe would want me to make myself invisible, now this louse man wants be to be around the whole damn time. "Brought you your coffee."

"Good, you are very efficient." he says smiling bemused. "From now on I want you to help me with the physiotherapy."

"What?" I demand. "You are joking, right?"

"No. I don't joke." he says. True that, he definitely does joke. How can someone have no sense of humour at all.

"I don't know how to do that. Why would you exchange a professional for me?" I reason. The nurse probably trained for years before touching a patient.

"Because I want you." he says firmly, always hollow answers. "Now watch and learn." he commands. The nurse explains to me while she's doing and she's going to watch me the next time that she can grade if I'm doing it right.

Babysitting Alpha Derek is becoming worse than Babysitting a whining baby.

Can't do this.

Don't do that.

Can't speak to this one.

Ignore that one.

Don't think.

Don't breath, didn't tell you could breath.

Don't... Do... Meh

Soon enough you will find me distilling the coffee because he no longer takes two cubes of sugar. Argh.

"Why didn't you tell me you were going to the city today? I wanted to come, need some stuff in there, the big day approaching." Vanessa ask as soon as we step in the veranda for breakfast. She's getting married, but i the werewolf language is completing the Mating rituals. She bought a nice flawless dress, in champagne colour and wants to make me her maid of honour.

I push Derek's wheelchair till the empty head table.

He takes the handkerchief and puts over his lap without answering to that.

"Good morning to you too sister." he says grumpy as always. "Caleb!" He says nodding to her mate.

"Alpha!" the guy bows.

"Fabian, what are you doing here?" He asks, can't believe he's still mad at Fabian.

"I asked you something." Vanessa says.

"I don't have to answer to that, I owe you no excuses for my actions." he says arrogantly. "Fabian you are excused." he interrupts him in the middle of his breakfast.

"Just leave him alone, Derek. We are past that." Vanessa complains.

"Nessa, just eat your breakfast, love, will you?" Caleb says and the expression on Vanessa's face was worse than anything Derek could do or say.

"Why are you defending him!" Vanessa demands from Caleb. I have noticed that they argue mostly because of his blind obedience towards the Alpha. Whatever Derek says is like 'word' for everyone. But Vanessa has her issues and it's obvious that she needs that family affection, and she can't find that in her brother. I can relate to that.

"Being an Alpha doesn't make you an ass, makes you a leader." she turns to Derek, leaving her mate with no charm to act.

"I don't mean it that way, I mean. We should eat in peace." Caleb tries.

"Ok, maybe we should. Why can't Fabian finish his breakfast?"

"it's ok, Nessa. I have things to do too." Fabian says already standing up and excusing himself.

"If you leave, I will leave too." Vanessa insists.

"Why do you even care that he's not having breakfast with us?" Caleb asks, I smell jealousy. On the other side I couldn't help but notice Derek trying to keep his cool, telling everyone to keep quiet in a soft tone but nobody would listen.

"What do you mean, Cal?" Vanessa demands.

"ENOUGH. " Derek says. Good Morning. Bon appetite. This is the daily loaf.

Everybody turns to Derek quiet. " I don't want to hear a single whisper." he says watching down. "Fabian you are disappearing from my sight this very moment." which he does the very moment. "and Vanessa if you ever question my leadership skills again. -"

"What will you do, Derek!" Vanessa says standing up. "Derek you have to learn and deal with things without dragging everyone with. Nobody here blames for you being in that wheelchair. Stop punishing everyone for your pain. You pity yourself so much, you forget that we went through it together. We were all there, but we all moved on. We can't live in the past forever."

"Vanessa." Caleb warns.

"Let her, Caleb." Derek orders still listening to her.

"You are selfish; you think you are the only one with the greatest of the problems. You see me laughing and smiling every day and you think I'm not as hurt, not as damaged on the inside? Why did we move this side then? Wasn't it to start over? The spirits of the old accepted us here on recognising our blood line, the crescent. But we seem to be increasingly unhappy. You refuse to reject that bitch, she's not worth it, she brings out the worst in you. Every day you become more and more like him. A monster like your father. You just never showed your true colours because he wouldn't let you. Now here you are, a Derek the second, just like the first." Vanessa pours and leaves.

After that silence took over the room Fabian left and Caleb says he's going to take care of that, of Vanessa.

I look around without knowing if I should leave or stay, or say something. Derek didn't look OK. I hate him, but now I just feel sorry for him. I didn't quite get what is was all about, but I'm sure she poked on an open wound.

"Some passion juice!" I cynically break the silence

"Sit down and eat with me." he says, shouldn't he be touched by her words. They seemed really deep. But he showed fury and pain for a split second, meanwhile it just sank under his skin. What a way to deal with stuff.

Coldly.

"huh, I have already had breakfast. I'm good." I manage to say, I wanted to go too. He looked murderous.

"I said sit." he commands looking at me with his darkened eyes, which makes me sit right away. Why am I the chosen one with no choice? I'm scared too. He makes the favour of pouring me coffee and serving me pancakes. "Eat." he says and I look at my plate.

"ummm, you just ran everyone from here, maybe you should just apologise." I try to knock some sense in him.

"I asked you to eat not small talk." ice, ice, ice. He needs my company even so can't be polite.

"See you just have to keep hitting on the grumpy button. You are so louse, why?" Lydia say... I just never learns, do I?

"None of your business? You can always follow them if you are not happy."

"Really!" I ask thinking that he was being serious.

"No"

"I thought so." I murmur to myself.

After Derek is gone and I can finally stop holding my breath, I go to the kitchen, where they made some kind of council.

"So, is he gone? " Vanessa asks and I shake my head.

"Doesn't the air feel lighter?" I say giving a deep breath in a smile. I look at Vanessa, and she had a serious expression on my face. I had the feeling she didn't like the way I spoke about her brother.

"Of course it feels lighter." Vanessa says in a huge smile.

"happy for not having Alpha around, you guys are spoiled." Caleb comments hanging on her mate's hips.

"There were times when it was nice having Derek around." Vanessa says defensively.

"awesome times. We even forgot whose child we were."

"He was my best friend." Fabian comments. "I remember when he used to wake us up in the middle of the night to take a run in the woods."

"Just!" Caleb asks and we all laugh.

"They went to check out the sluts that used to run in their wolf form until the waterfall and lay down there naked."

"Secrets unveiled. " I comment.

" Stop destroying my reputation." Fabian complains as we all laugh.

"Don't be fooled by this pretty face." Vanessa says. "Or Derek's serious face"

"Derek was never serious." Caleb comments.

"he was never serious." Vanessa says suddenly thoughtful. "They destroyed my brother?"

I wonder what happened. How can the guy they are describing right now be Derek?

"Who?" I couldn't help asking. "The woman you said looks like me? Is that why he kind of hates me?"

They just look at each other, all suddenly gone serious.

"Come on guys." I insist.

"We are here sharing good memories. Don't ever try to find out, Lydia. I already told you nobody talks about it anymore." Vanessa says, but she talked about it. And hurt feelings, even thou he didn't show it, literally.

"Yeah, that's true. Whoever Derek is not his fault. But we don't expect anybody to understand." Fabian says, he was supposed to be the most hurt among them. He just beat him senseless. This is what I'm talking about. My prince charming has a huge heart.

Can you blame me for falling for him so easily?

Sighs.

"Then maybe you should apologise to him, Nessa. He was pretty depressed. Didn't quiet show it, but he was." I say in a nervous smile.

"She will do it, won't you?" Caleb says looking at her with that lover bird expression on his face, all persuasive.

"I will sleep on it." Vanessa says shrugging. "Mate." she smiles and plants a kiss on his, that leads to another and meanwhile they are making out.

Me and Fabian just look at each other feeling awkward and kind of disgusted. They were going to swallow each other any minute. "Do you want me to show you around?" Fabian asks gesturing. He didn't even need to ask, I definitely wanted to get out of there.

"Totally." I say and we rush out of there.
