Meanwhile, Yu Duo had finished yet another examination and was waiting for the results.
This time she had come to a private hospital where the hospital director and her mother had some friendship. Because of that, Yu Duo had been able to get in and out very quickly and she was accompanied by an obstetrician and a gynaecologist to answer her questions after her examination.
Taking advantage of this opportunity, Yu Duo took out the examination results that diagnosed her as three months pregnant from the other hospital.
âDoctor, would you please take a look at these examination results for me? Are they accurate or not?â
The doctor took the report and examined it carefully. After reading it, his brows furrowed and he asked. âMrs. Fu, is this report yours?â
âNo, it belongs to a friend of mine,â Yu Duo casually invented a friend out of nothing. âShe isnât feeling well today but when she heard that I was going to the hospital for a checkup, she asked me to show the doctor I saw that report. Whatâs the matter? Is there some problem with it?â
The doctor pointed out several bits of data on the report and said, âThis report concludes that your friend is three months pregnant, but judging from these values in the data, there might be some sort of error in the result.â
Yu Duo felt shocked in her heart, but she stayed calm and asked, âError? What kind of error?â
âWell...â For the sake of caution, the doctor examined the report again, âThe number of months of pregnancy seems incorrect, however, Iâm not too sure. You should ask your friend to come to our hospital for a thorough examination and we can make a proper diagnosis.â
Yu Duoâs heart turned chilly when she heard those words.
It turned out that it was the hospital that Fu Sinian took her to that had misdiagnosed her.
She had thought she had dodged the bullet, but in reality, she was still doomed.
What was the use of acting like things were fine now? Once the baby was born, it would definitely be found out sooner or later.
Whatâs more, Fu Sinian had seemed very happy about her pregnancy recently. But now when she thought of his smile, Yu Duo could only feel guilty.
After all, it wasnât his child that she was pregnant with.
âMrs. Fu, is something the matter?â
âItâs nothing, I just...â ...feel guilty.
Although she still didnât know how this kid came to be.
âHave you told your parents about your pregnancy yet?â
âNo, not yet.â
âYou should tell them soon. Your parents will be very happy to learn about such a joyous event.â
âBut Mr. Fu knows, right?â
Yu Duo smiled thinly but didnât reply.
âThen you should surprise Mr. Fu with the good news.â
âI... I donât know how to tell him yet.â ...donât know how to tell him the baby isnât his.
Ever since Fu Sinian had come out and caught her at the airport the day before yesterday, Yu Duo had just felt tired and resigned to her fate. Fu Sinian seemed to be able to control her every move, and she felt completely unable to escape from the palm of his hand.
âIt doesnât matter how you tell him. After all, the most important thing between a husband and wife is honesty. Really, all you have to do is say âMr. Fu, Iâm pregnant.â and Iâm sure heâll be so happy that heâll come and pick you up right away.â
Honesty?
In this matter, it seemed that she had done nothing but conceal things. As if the thought of being honest had never crossed her mind.
Maybe it was because of the time she heard Fu Sinian saw âchop them up and throw them into the seaâ? Or maybe it was just because she had already become accustomed to living this way under Fu Sinianâs influence over the years.
To put it simply, she just didnât have the courage.
But maybe she should just try confessing?
After all, Fu Sinian had never really been that unkind to her, right?
At worst, they would just sever ties and get a divorce. Fu Sinian would settle for severing ties, right?
âWell, maybe Iâll try to tell my husband.â
Taking out her cell phone, Yu Duo plucked up her courage and sent a text message to Fu Sinian.
ââAre you busy?â
Very quickly, Fu Sinian responded.
ââSomething wrong?â
Yu duo gritted her teeth and slowly typed out a paragraph.
ââThereâs something I need to confess to you but, until I finish, donât be angry and just listen to me carefully, okay?â
Fu Sinian didnât reply even after a long time. On her end, Yu Duo had stared down at her phone until her eyes were sore when she eventually sorted out her thoughts enough to begin to type.
ââThe hospital that you took me to for an examination yesterday misdiagnosed me. Iâm not three months pregnant, rather, Iâm two months pregnant, which means the baby is not yours. But, please believe me, I never betrayed you. During those three months when you disappeared, I didnât have close contact with any man, and I still donât know whose baby it is. I know that you wonât be able to accept that, after all, even I canât accept a child that just appeared all of a sudden! But Iâve thought about it for a long time and decided to tell you the truth. I donât want you to have to raise someone elseâs child, because that would be unfair to you, so Iâll take the baby with me and raise it myself. To be honest, Fu Sinian, I donât love you. If it hadnât been for that night in the hotel back then, I would never have married you. I donât think thereâs been any love between us all these years, and Iâm sure you feel the same way, so letâs get a divorce. Donât worry. I donât want any of your property.â
Yu Duo thought for a moment, deleted the last sentence, and replaced it with, âI will follow your arrangements regarding the division of property.â
However, that still felt off, so she deleted it again and changed it to: âDonât worry. I wonât take half of your property.â
After thinking about it again, Yu Duo deleted the last sentence.
But then a nurse came in from outside with a sullen look on her face.
âLulu, whatâs wrong?â
âAh, Dr. Chen, thereâs actually a pregnant woman out there making trouble in the obstetrics and gynecology clinic.â
âMaking trouble? Whatâs going on?â
âSheâs slandering our hospital, saying that our hospitalâs examination results were wrong. â
Doctor Chen glanced at Yu Duo awkwardly before turning back to the nurse. âWhatâs going on exactly? Tell me more.â
Lulu replied in an annoyed tone: âShe came to our hospital for an examination a few days ago and our hospital confirmed that she was pregnant, but now sheâs back and saying that she isnât pregnant because she had her period this month.â
When Dr. Chen heard that, he just smiled and said. âWell, go back and explain to her that pregnancy actually has a period of time in the early stages where itâs possible to bleed but it isnât caused by menstruation. Itâs rare but we think that itâs just a physiological reaction from the fertilized egg after implantation.â
When Yu Duo heard him say that, her hand trembled and she asked, âDoctor, did you just say that a woman can be pregnant but still have something similar to a period?â
Dr. Chen replied with a smile, âItâs possible in very rare cases.â
Yu Duo thought back to the âperiodâ she had three months ago. When she thought about it carefully, it seemed to have come much sooner than a normal period.
She suddenly felt surprise and delight in her heart.
Could it be...
Suddenly, she looked down at her phone and noticed that, who knows when, but that large paragraph she had written had been sent to Fu Sinian.
Yu Duo felt as if she had been struck by lightning from a clear sky.
Okay. Donât panic. Steady now.
Fu Sinian was very busy these days. Maybe he hadnât seen her text message, maybe she could still withdraw it.
She frantically pawed at the message but somehow failed to withdraw it for a long time thanks to her trembling fingers.
From outside, there was a nurse knocking at the door. âDr. Chen, Mrs. Fuâs results have come out.â
The nurse walked in and handed the report over to Dr. Chen carelessly. Because of her haste, the stack of papers bumped into Yu Duoâs nervously trembling hand and Yu Duo lost her grip on the phone. The phone then slipped through her fingers and fell to the floor.
âSorry, Mrs. Fu, I didnât mean to!â The nurse hurriedly picked up the phone from the floor and handed it back to Yu Duo.
Yu Duoâs heart was beating like a war drum and she struggled to unlock the phone.
Fingerprint Unlock Failed.
Fingerprint Unlock Failed.
Fingerprint Unlock Failed.
Finally, she got it.
Enter password.
Yu Duo entered the password with trembling fingers, quickly navigated to that long paragraph of text, and clicked to withdraw.
âMore than two minutes have passed, text cannot be withdrawn.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Doctor Chen looked down at the results in front of him and said with a strange smile, âCongratulations, Mrs. Fu, youâre three months pregnant.â
