Chapter 91 Ser While the world around me was collapsing, Julian was just waking up in his hotel room. He’d been out drinking, hadn’t gone home, and his phone was dead. He’d skipped work too. The entire the Shaw Corp company was in an uproar, but he was blissfully unaware. When He Rui, his assistant, finally found him and broke the news, it hit him like a ton of bricks.

Evan, enjoying a lunch meeting, received the gossip from his assistant, Zach, because it involved me. He read the news with a calm exterior, yet an icy chill radiated from him.“The Shaw and Gu families are so lovey–dovey now. They won’t be needing extra funding anytime soon, so let’s put a hold on their loan application,” he said nonchalantly, his voice laced with a rare, sharp edge.

“We’ve already disbursed the first installment, and the second is due soon. Halting it now could jeopardize the project if they can’t find funding elsewhere,” Zach cautioned.

“Are you underestimating them? This is Julian and Rita’s pet project–they’ll sell their kidneys to keep it afloat. I have faith in them,” Evan replied coldly.

On the drive back to the office, Evan issued instructions for a re–evaluation of the loan, citing recent negative publicity surrounding the company, raising concerns about their ability to repay. Meanwhile, Julian remained oblivious. Shaw Huishan and Jiang Wenhui were at the Crowe residence, having a joyous lunch with the Crowe family. Rita was sitting next to Jiang Wenhui, affectionately calling her “Mom,” sending shivers down Julian’s spine. Jiang Wenhui smiled thinly, like a puppet. “Where is Julian? I can’t reach him. Is he still with that shameless Olivia?” Rita’s jealousy was palpable; she adopted a dramatic, scornful tone, as if portraying the role of scorned lover.

The whole Gu family joined in, acting as if they’d forgotten their earlier public humiliation.
