Chapter 5: I miss him

Euthanasia: Spare Me Your Mercy volume 2

Gunn brought his body and mind that were in bad condition home almost at 4am and changed back into a T-shirt and a pair of shorts . He fell onto the bed and stared at the ceiling.

Whoever sent the letter probably wanted Gunn to be like this.

That person deliberately wanted him to be anxious and pushed him to do something that could expose him.

Gunn couldn't confirm with certainty that it hadn't been Som, but after careful consideration, why would Som do this? It was already difficult for him to survive.

The stressed brain kept the doctor awake untill morning.

At the sun shone, he heard a car drive in and parked infront of the house, followed by the sound of the door closing. Hia beloved had returned home without knowing what Gunn did last night.

Gunn let out a long sign.

He felt to tried of having to wear mask and pretend infront of someone he loves, but this was what he had to do to keep this relationship alive.

Gunn feared losing Wasan much as he feared losing his own life, so he got outof bed as his the black clothes in tw bin before heading to the shower like someone who had just woken up to go about his normal personal routines.

Gunn heard the bedroom door open, followed by Wasan's voice: " Are yo taking a shower?"

"Yes, I woke up a little late today,"

Gunn replied to the person outside the bed room.

"I couldn't take nap

If.you seee sleeping when you came out, please wake me up tontake a shower. I have to go to worknafter this. I'm really tired. You should leave me alone tonight, I'll sleep like a rock.'

Wasan was probably about to flop onto the bed with his uniform on as usual. Gunn turned on the shower and let themwater fall on him to clean all the outside dirt.

However, water cannot remove the darkness from the heart of Gunn.

"I couldn't sleep for a second either, Wasan," he said to himself quietly.

The shower obscured his voice, so the person outside the bathroom couldn't hear him.

"Again....." Wasan sighed as he saw something the seemed like a scene from the past replay in his memory infront of him.

The police officer entered Som's house when someone called to report that a man's scream could he heard since 8am. Concerned neighbours feared that something bad might happened, but the source of the scream from the homeowner who was still sitting with his eyes wide open and hugged his knees of the door.

From the outside, Som looked better than when Wasan dragged him infront of the house to receive treatment for his mental illness many months ago, but Som's mental state was no different from that time. It seemed like his hallucination relapsed

"Mit....Mit..."

Som cried piteously.

"Why did you kill Mit......?"

Wasan frowned when he heard the word "kill", but Sergeant Narong explained:it was.tje dog that Som raised. He died of poisoning there."

The young inspector looked in the direction that Sergeant Narong was pointing and found the corpse of a mongrel dog lying in a puddle of its own feces and foemy saliva. A bag of dog food was not far from there. It was probably the food that poisoned.

"He probably woke up and saw his dog dead, so he got scared and his mental illness relapsed."

It seemed like this was what happened, but Wasan didn't conclude that it was just this:

"Sergeant, did you talk to Som?"

"I tried to talk, but I couldn't get anything out of him."

The police seemed upset.

"I asked him if he saw who did it, if someone invaded his house or if something went missing, and he just said 'Angle of Death' repeatedly."

''Angle of Death?" Ofcourse, this word had a meaning because it was the word that almost sent Gunn to jail when the psychiatrist decided to tell the police that Som saw Gunn as an Angel of death. This coincides with Yongyuth's bloody shirt and ID card that were found infront of Gunn's house.

"He's hallucinating because he is high. Inspector, let's take him to rehab like before."

Sergeant Narong used his food to move the bag of dog food that was the reason for the animals unfortunate death.

"Who so cruel to kill Som's dog?"

"He was drugged?"

Wasan quickly turned to ask him.

"A needle was found in Som's bedroom."

Narong pointed out the door of the house.

"It's probably heroin.'

Wasan sighed tiredly.

"He got treatment as was almost back to normal, why would he do drugs?"

The police officer walked towards the thin middle - aged man who was shaking like a little bird and seemed even more scared when Wasan squared down infront of him.

"Som what did you see? Can you tell us?"

Som's eyes immediately widened,

"The smell of the Angle of Death."

He screamed loudly and tried to get away from Wasan. He police frowned and looked at himself when he told him about the smell. After that, he raised his head to see something that made the inspector pause for a moment.

He noticed that there were any purple bruises around Som's neck.

The police officer quickly grabbed Som's arm so that he couldn't crawl too far.

He tried to look for needle marks in the crook of his arm that might indicate Som was using heroin, but he couldn't find any.

"Did someone do something to you?"

Wasan asked in a louder and more stern voice.

Som didn't respond and seemed to go even crazier when Wasan approached, so the young police officer decided to back away and explore the inside of the house. There were no signs of theft or a fight, the only thing he found were the messy sheets and uncapped needle that was connected to a syringe filled with clear liquid on the floor in the corner of the room.

The police officer tried to search for powdered heroin and other things such as a spoon that could have been used to heat the drugs, but no evidence was found that Som was using the type of drugs Narong accused.

"Inspector, the doctor is asking for you,"

Sergeant Narong called to Wasan from outside the room. The police officer nodded and walked out of the single-story wooden house to see a middle-aged man wearing the blue-with-white-striped public health uniform.

I waited for him with an anxious look while Som was loaded into the car to be treated at the provincial hospital as before.

"Uncle Tae, hello."

Wasan raised his hand in a greeting gesture towards the older man.

"I can't believe Som relapsed.

In the past he improved to lead a life like a normal person and was able to even earn a living.

There was nothing to worry about . Yesterday he even greeted me when he cycled past the Health Promotion Hospital of the Sub-district."

The public health officials, who knew the inhabitants of his area of responsibility, sighed.

"It happened overnight."

"Gunn told me that psychiatrist were planning to do home visit, but it's too late "

"Really? The doctor asked me about the location of Som's house."

Wasan looked confused, but he felt better when Tae laughed and punched the police officer's broad shoulder.

"Dr. Gunn is like that. He does what he wants and asks what he wants. He was probably planning some projects with the psychiatrists and was going to tell me when he was going to make the home visit."

It seemed like Tae knew very well, which was no different from what Wasan could see. That person was mysterious and always did unexpected things.

"That's Guntapat, right.?"

"You already know each other well."

Tae smiled widely.

"You know, when you brought lunch for Dr. Gunn the other day, the nurses at the Sub-district Health Promotion Hospital were screaming like crazy, especially when they found out that you had already been in a relationship for many months.

Anne really liked it." "The knees weakened."

Although Tae said it like it was nothing, Wasan k ew that not all the things that happened were good. Even if it was not widely known, whoever worked closely with both of them would be able to see the relationship between the two.

Deep in Wasan's heart, he was hesitant to reveal their relationship because he was worried about the stares of his colleagues and the gossip of.thw people who found.put that Dr. Gunn and Inspector were gay. Many people still saw him as abnormal, so Wasan felt like he wanted to hide it like before.

But when Tae, someone he respected a lot talked about his boyfriend like that he felt shy and blushed.

The police officer coughed and changed the subject before losing his cool even more.

"I saw something straight at Som's house. It's a needle. Please look at it in case it can help me think about where the drugs came from.'

"A needle? Bring it to me and I'll take a look at it. There are some disease in which the patient has to administer his own medicine at home.

For example, patients with diabeties have to inject insulin or those who have to inject themselves with blood thinners."

A police officer handed him a bag with the evidence inside. Tae looked at the 3cm syringe that is connected to the needle with the blue cap on the end and forward.

"Surely this is not a diabetes medication or blood thinners.

It looks more like a medication mixed together to be injected intravenously in hospital.

I really can't tell what this medication is or where the needle came from."

Strange.

After questioning neighbouring witnesses about other anomalies, they could find nothing else in the morning apart from crying Som, poisoned dog, the mysterious needle, and the culprits, them Wasan would call the accused to investigate and further prosecute.

"Hello."

The medical examiner answered in incoming call at the forensic department office.

"Hello, is this the medical examine"

"Yes it is."

"I'm a staff member of the department of psychiatry, I would like to consult you about something."

The woman at the end of the line sounded pleasant a d sweet, but also worried.

"We have a 41-year-old male patient with schizophrenia who was receiving treatment for a long time untill the disease stabilized.

This morning the police brought him to the hospital due to recurrent hallucinations and hearing things again.

The police said that they also suspect that the patient he was physically attacked.

I examined hia body and founded a lot of bruises on his neck.

I don't know what can cause this types of bruises, whether they were caused by physical attack as the police suspected or not, because the patient did not want to talk about what happened."

"Can I refer this patient for examination at the forensic department?'

"It's better for me to go take a look directly at the department, then you won't have to move the patient."

The doctor closed the textbook she was reading.

"Anyway, I don't have a forensic case now. I can go now , right?"

"Yes, you can. Thank you."

Rin stood up and used a hair band to carefully gather her beautiful hair before leaving her office.

When she came out infront of the forensic department which wasjust asmall department in a blind corner behind the hospital's building, he found a tall, muscular man in a white T-shirt and jeans standing to the body collection point. She could remember who he was with just.a look.

"What is he doing here?"

Rin muttered to herself because there was no case that required the police to wait for the results of the forensic examination to that time.

The young woman tried to pass by him without paying attention to him, but it seemed that the man would not let her escape.

He immediately walked towards Rin with an attractive smile, contradicting the atmosphere infront of the morgue.

"I'm not here to test your knife.

I'm just saying hello."

Inspector Em's harsh voice that greeted her made her stop in her  track.

She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and reluctantly turned to look at the undercover cop.

"What are you doing here?"

The doctor crossed her arms and looked at Em with an expressionless face, as if tonsay that she didn't really want to know the answer, but was just asking out of politeness.

"The body from the traffic accident that was sent this morning wasy sister's friend's brother.

Wait is that so....?"

Em raised her hands to count and make sense of her relationships. Friend's brother, who is my sister's friend. That should be right. I'm here to help you guys take a look before my sister friend's brother comes to pick up the body.

It seemed like Rin didn't get confused by the family tree and Em meant to make it sound confusing.

"The forensic examination has been completed. The cause of death was a traffic accident. You can contact Anan to recover the body for religious ceremonies."

"Doctor."

Em called quickly before Rin walked away.

"Dr. Bun as I are close. It's always been easy to work together. I don't know if it's possible for the two of us to know each other better."

"You talk about Dr. Bun all the time since we first met."

Rin sharp eyes stared at Em's chiseled Thai-style face. It irritated her when people compared her to her chief medical examiner who use to work here before her all the time.

"Do you like him?"

When he breaks up with his current boyfriend, I will help you tell him."

"I know Dr. Bun's boyfriend very well. His boyfriend is not normal. That person can really kill me.".

Em laughed at the attempt to bring him and Bun together.

"I like De. Bun, but in a professional way. But 'like' in the context you are referring to would not be possible because.i have my own type, which is.a talented woman who is confident."

"Oh, sure."

Run crossed her arms and responded like this. At that moment, she  noticed the round golden ring on the young Inspector's finger. Ahe was inexplicably shocked inside. It seemed like the person who was flirting with her was already engaged . So he's a player, which was a good thing. She can used this as an excuse to keep him from coming any closer.

"If there's nothing else, you'll excuse me. I have a pati waiting for me."

Rin turned around a the smae time the hospital van entered and parked next to the door behind infront of the Forensic Department. The group of people who got off the van were two home visiting nurses from the Department of Social Medical followed by a young doctor wearing a short medical gown over a dark blue long+sleeved shirt.

The young body were clenched into a first before relaxing. And it was at that moment that the doctor looked at Rin as well.

Em felt that the cold wind passing through her body became colder than usual. I didn't know why, but I felt like something complicated wasabout to happen....soon

In the path Rin passed, there were always people who turned their heads to look at her.

Maybe because of her fast walks with high heels that she chose eto work inside the hospital, or maybe because of her beautiful body and eye-catching clothes, a tight and long pants, or one around her. However, at this time she was working at a government hospital in the province. This distinctiveness would inevitably lead to gossip, but Rin pait it no mind. She was here to seek answer and I tended to leave when she got what she wanted. Rin didn't have to worry about anyone at all.

The nurse took the patient named Som to sit on the stretcher. Dr. Kanokpon or Pang, the psychiatrist responsible for the patient, asked to observ with a worried face

Rin put on her gloves and stood infront of the patient, Som didn't look at her. His eyes were distracted and he stood still as a rock. Rin approached to see thearks on his neck and foundany purple bruises.

"Bruises on the skin are 0.3-0.5cm parallel to each other, along with the wound here, which.aee nail marks caused by nail. It's clear that they arearks created my using hands to strangle yhe neck."

"Is that so?"

Pang looked thoughtful.

"May I ask if it is possible that these marks are created when someone strangles themselves."

"Rin looked at Pang, "that would be difficult."o

"It's because the patient has a history of schizophrenia and had previously hurt animals and himself

"

The medical examiner turned around.amd extended Som's neck to slowly and carefully search the thin body for wounds.

"There are no self-defense injurious, so the possibility is that...."

Rin closed her eyes.ams ran simulation in her head

"The patient was attacked.while he was sleeping. The culprit entered.with the intention of strangling Som. Som probably woke up then and  struggle by hitting himself with his hands here and there, as well as scratching the culprit. But for some reason, the culprit aborted his mission and ran away. That's why Som survived."

Som's distracted eyes slowly looked at Rin's face. The expressionless face began to show fear. Pang approached Rin and said, "thank you very much. It's much clearer now that what triggered his symptoms was probably a physical attack."

""I'll go back to take tissue samples from under his fingernails because Som may have scratched the culprit and his DNA may be there." Rin paused and then sighed. "Although the police may not be interested in finding the culprit."

Pang smiled dryly, "You're right...anyway, I have to thank you very much for coming to examine the wound."

"You are welcome." The doctor took off her gloves and threw them in the trash. He raised his hand in a farewell gesture towards the senior doctor and left the psychiatric ward.

"What did you hurt yourself with?" Wasan said as he walked in to use the shower together.

"Hmm?" The doctor turned to see the man he loves also naked like him.

"On your back and ear," Wasan rubbed the skin where Gan had felt itchy for a while, but paid no attention to it. "They look like scratches."

Gun paused slightly, but it was enough for Wasan to spot him. Kan turned to the police officer, who now took a step back. "Baby, it was you who left these marks on me."

"I'm thinking if it was me or someone else." Wasan's eyes were fierce like the eyes of a tiger in the jungle. Gunn approached Wasan and wrapped both his arms around his neck, rubbing his stomach against the other person's skin.

"Don't you remember? When you did that position with me in bed, were you conscious enough not to scratch me?" The doctor leaned down to seductively bite Wasan's ears, making the police officer feel paralyzed. Gunn lifted one of Wasan's legs to hang it from his body, "Bending the pain when you scratch me hurts less than when you doubt me. Honey, I swear on my life that since I had you, I have never slept with anyone else. Not even once."

Wasan looked at the man who called him dear and said, "Swear that you will be struck by lightning if you lie."

"I swear if I lie, I'll be killed by lightning," Gun repeated Wasan's words with a smile before pushing the other party near the bathroom wall.

"Kneel down and swear," Wasan challenged him.

Of course, Gunn willingly followed the order. The doctor knelt on the wet floor, his two hands rubbing Wasan's skin from his calf to his legs and hips before opening his mouth to please the other person and ease his worry.

Actually, Wasan's misunderstanding that he had been tricked might be better than knowing the truth.
