CHAPTER 64

Falling Hard

ZAYN CARTER

Ignoring Ari was harder than it should have been.

Especially when she kept grinning at me like she knew exactly how much she was pissing me off.

But I wasn't going to give her the satisfaction.

Not after everything.

Not after she hid the fact that she was the freaking Goddess, got herself injured on top of her already sprained ankle, and now had the audacity to act like it was no big deal.

So, yeah. I was ignoring her.

She'd get over it.

"Alright," Michelle announced, standing up and grabbing her bag. "Since you guys are staying here, I'll head home and prepare some proper food. Blair, you're coming with me."

Blair perked up. "Oh, thank God. I was not about to sleep on a hospital couch."

Fay threw a pillow at her. "Excuse you, I will gladly suffer for my best friend."

I rolled my eyes.

Michelle turned to us instead. "Take care of her. Make sure she rests."

"We got it, Mrs. Calloway," Cole said easily.

She nodded, ruffled Ari's hair—earning a whine from her—and then left with Blair.

Which left us.

Me.

Cole.

Fay.

And Ari.

Great.

"So," Fay flopped down onto the couch with a triumphant grin. "Dibs on the couch."

I raised a brow. "You sure? That thing is tiny."

She waved me off. "Please, I've survived worse."

Cole shrugged. "Alright, that leaves the bed."

I crossed my arms. "You taking it?"

He smirked. "Only if you want me to."

I glared."We'll take turns."

Cole chuckled, clearly amused. "You're so generous."

Ari, meanwhile, was watching this all with way too much amusement. Her dimples were showing as she grinned at us.

And—no.

I wasn't looking at her dimples.

I wasn't looking at anything.

I turned away, settling on the chair in the corner of the room, pulling out my phone.

"Wow." Ari pouted dramatically. "Not even a glance, Carter?"

I didn't respond.

Her brows lifted. "Still mad?"

Still? STILL?

I inhaled deeply, fingers tightening around my phone.

Cole smirked, clearly entertained by the entire thing.

Ari sighed dramatically. "At least say something. This is cruel."

Silence.

She huffed. "You're impossible."

I ignored her.

Because if I didn't, I'd say something I'd regret.

And right now?

I wasn't sure if I wanted to yell at her for being reckless—

Or pull her dimples.

Which was exactly why I needed to keep my damn mouth shut.
