Midnight Confessions (Chapter 2)
Shivika Short Stories
The days that followed were nothing short of blissful chaos. Shivaay and Anika had settled into a rhythm of playful teasing, heartfelt moments, and unexpected surprises. But despite the laughter, something lingered between themâa quiet uncertainty, a hesitation neither was ready to confront.
It was late one evening when the storm broke. Anika was in her room, flipping through a photo album of the Oberoi family, laughing at the old pictures of Shivaay in oversized suits. She was so absorbed in the memories that she didnât hear the door creak open.
"Anika?"
She looked up, startled, only to find Shivaay standing in the doorway, looking unusually serious. His usual confident demeanor was replaced with a quiet intensity she hadn't seen before.
"Shivaay?" she asked, placing the album down. "Whatâs wrong?"
"I need to talk to you," he said, his voice a little too calm for her comfort.
She immediately sensed the shift in the air. "Whatâs going on? Youâre scaring me."
Shivaay hesitated before walking over to her, his hands stuffed into his pockets. "Iâm not sure how to say this, but I think I owe you an explanation."
"Explanation for what?" Anika asked, heart pounding. She stood up, unable to sit still as she noticed his tense posture.
Shivaay's eyes flickered with something unreadable. "You know that my family is everything to me. I promised my parents that I would protect the legacy of the Oberoi name. But..." His words faltered, and for the first time, Anika saw a crack in his facade. "I made some decisions long ago that I regret now. Decisions that I shouldâve never made."
Anikaâs confusion grew. "What are you talking about?"
Shivaay stepped closer, his face serious. "There are things in my past, things that have been hidden for years. And the truth is... it's starting to catch up with me. Youâre involved in this now, Anika."
Her breath caught in her throat. "Involved? How? What do you mean?"
"Someone from my past has reappeared," Shivaay admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. "And theyâre threatening everythingâmy business, my family, and... you."
Anika took a step back, feeling as if the floor had just shifted beneath her. "What do you mean, threatening me?" she whispered. "Who is this person? Why didnât you tell me before?"
"Because I didnât want you to get dragged into this," Shivaay explained quickly, his eyes filled with regret. "Iâve always kept my world separate from yours. I wanted to protect you from all this darkness in my life. But I realize now that I canât protect you from everything."
Anika stood still, trying to process everything. "So youâve been keeping secrets from me all this time? Why didnât you trust me enough to tell me?"
Shivaay looked down, his shoulders heavy. "I thought if you knew, youâd walk away from me. I couldnât lose you, Anika. Not now, not after everything weâve been through. And now... now Iâm scared that Iâve put you in danger."
A silence filled the room, broken only by the sound of Anika's breath quickening. She felt her chest tighten, the weight of the words heâd just spoken settling into her bones.
"You shouldâve trusted me," she finally said, her voice trembling with a mix of anger and hurt. "You shouldâve trusted us."
Shivaay raised his eyes to meet hers, his expression tortured. "I know, Anika. And Iâm sorry. But I canât take this back. The person whoâs threatening us knows everything. And theyâll stop at nothing to tear us apart."
Anika clenched her fists, her determination hardening. "Then we fight back."
Shivaay blinked in surprise. "What?"
"We fight back together," she repeated firmly, stepping closer to him. "I wonât let anyone hurt us. Youâre not doing this alone, Shivaay."
He opened his mouth to protest, but she held up a hand, silencing him. "Youâve always been the one with the answers, the protector, the one in control. But sometimes, the best way to protect someone is to let them in. Iâm here, Billu ji. No matter what."
Shivaay looked at her for a long moment, the tension in his features slowly softening. "Anika, I..."
Before he could finish, they were interrupted by the sound of a loud knock at the door.
"Shivaay, Anika, are you both in there?" It was Omkaraâs voice, urgent.
Anika exchanged a glance with Shivaay before he nodded. He opened the door, and Omkara stepped inside, his expression serious.
"You both need to come downstairs," Omkara said. "Thereâs something you need to see. The person threatening you, Shivaay... theyâve made their move."
Anikaâs heart raced again. "What are you talking about?"
Omkaraâs face was grim. "Thereâs a letter. And a photo. Itâs addressed to Shivaay, and itâs not just a threat anymore. Itâs a promise."
Shivaay turned to Anika, his face now a mask of determination. "Weâre not waiting any longer. We face this head-on."
"Together," Anika added, her voice unwavering.
As they followed Omkara down the stairs, Anika could feel the weight of the challenge ahead, but also the strength of their bond. She had no idea what awaited them, but for the first time, she was ready to face it with Shivaay by her sideâno secrets, no walls between them.
This time, they would fight, not just for their love, but for their future.
