Midnight Confessions (Final Chapter - The Mystery Solved)

Shivika Short Stories

After their chaotic family dinner, with Rudra’s never-ending ladoo eating and Dadi’s insistence on feeding everyone into a food coma, the Oberois were finally ready to tackle the mystery at hand. The letter and photo, which had loomed over their heads for the past few hours, still sat untouched on the coffee table, its contents unclear. But Shivaay knew that they had to face it head-on.

The room had quieted after the laughter died down, and everyone was gathered, each of them sensing that something serious was about to happen.

Shivaay, sitting with Anika by his side, took a deep breath before picking up the letter. It was elegantly written, the ink still fresh, and it held an air of menace despite the harmless-looking envelope.

"I don’t want to drag this out any longer," Shivaay said, his voice steady but with an undertone of concern. "We need to figure out who sent this and why they’re threatening us. The longer we wait, the more dangerous it becomes."

He carefully opened the letter and unfolded it. The contents were as chilling as they had feared.

---

Dear Shivaay Singh Oberoi,

I’ve been watching you closely. Your empire, your family, and now, even your love life. You think you have everything under control, but there are always cracks in the foundation. This is just a warning. The next move will be more than a threat.

Consider this the beginning. I will take what is mine, and nothing you do will stop me.

Yours truly,

The Shadow.

Everyone in the room was silent, trying to absorb the gravity of the situation.

"The Shadow?" Omkara muttered, narrowing his eyes. "This doesn’t feel like some random threat. It feels personal."

Anika glanced at Shivaay, her brow furrowed. "But why now? What do they want?"

Shivaay clenched his jaw, frustrated by the lack of clarity. "I don’t know. But whoever this is, they’ve been watching me for a long time. I can feel it."

Suddenly, Rudra, who had been listening quietly up until now, spoke up, his face lighting up with an idea. "Wait, wait, wait. The Shadow? That sounds so familiar! I’ve heard someone use that name before."

Shivaay turned to Rudra, his eyes narrowing. "What do you mean?"

Rudra shrugged dramatically, looking slightly embarrassed. "I might have seen it in one of my spy cartoons. There was a villain called ‘The Shadow’ who always had a big, dramatic plan to ruin everything. But then, in the end, he was always defeated by a really cool twist!"

Anika and Shivaay stared at him, and then burst out laughing. "Rudra, we’re talking about a real threat here, not a cartoon!" Anika said between giggles.

"Yeah, but hold on," Rudra continued, unaffected by their laughter. "Think about it. A shadow. The person who’s been watching Shivaay. What if it’s not someone new? What if it’s someone inside the Oberoi empire?"

The room went quiet as his words sank in.

"Someone inside?" Omkara echoed. "You think it could be an insider?"

Shivaay’s expression darkened. "It’s possible. But who?"

Suddenly, Anika’s eyes widened. "Wait a minute—remember that meeting last year with the rival business owners? The one where that strange deal fell apart, and someone was leaking our plans? We never got to the bottom of that."

Shivaay snapped his fingers. "You’re right. That could be the key. But who would have had the access, and why wouldn’t we have noticed?"

Anika, always the one to put the pieces together, continued, "What if this is about the family legacy? Someone who wants to destroy what you’ve built, Shivaay."

Shivaay paused, his mind racing. "But we’ve taken care of everything—no one would dare touch the Oberoi legacy."

As the group deliberated, Dadi, who had been quietly observing from the back, stood up with surprising authority. "There’s one person who fits the description of ‘The Shadow’... Someone who has been watching this family closely. Someone we thought was gone for good."

Everyone turned to her.

"Who?" Shivaay demanded.

Dadi met his gaze and said, her voice low, "Your uncle, Mr. Vikrant Singh Oberoi."

The name hit like a bombshell.

Vikrant Singh Oberoi, Shivaay’s estranged uncle, had been a part of the family years ago. He had once been a successful businessman with access to Oberoi secrets, but after a massive scandal involving embezzlement and betrayal, he was disowned and cast out. No one had heard from him since, and everyone had assumed he had disappeared for good.

"Vikrant?" Shivaay whispered, the recognition dawning on him. "But he disappeared after the scandal. How could he still be a threat?"

Omkara’s voice was steady. "Because someone like him never forgets. And he’s smart enough to know how to stay hidden, behind the scenes, like a shadow."

Anika’s eyes widened. "So he’s been planning this for years? Waiting for the right time?"

Dadi nodded. "That’s the most likely explanation. And if we’re right, he’s probably the one sending those threats."

Shivaay clenched his fists. "If it’s Vikrant, he won’t stop until he gets what he wants. He’s always been after the family fortune."

But just then, Rudra piped up with his usual dramatic flair, "Wait a minute! If we’re right about Vikrant, I have an idea. How about we trap him?"

Everyone turned to look at him in surprise. "Trap him?" Shivaay echoed, clearly skeptical.

Rudra grinned. "Leave it to me! If we act like we’re clueless about the threat, he’ll come out of hiding to make his move. And then—bam! We catch him red-handed."

Omkara raised an eyebrow. "You’re suggesting we pretend to be the perfect targets?"

Rudra nodded confidently. "Exactly. We pretend to give in to the threats, and when Vikrant shows his face, we’ll have the evidence we need to put an end to it all!"

Anika shook her head in amusement. "Sometimes, Rudra, you’re a genius in the most ridiculous ways."

Shivaay, after a long pause, finally nodded. "Alright, Rudra. Let’s do it your way. We’ll set the trap and catch Vikrant before he causes any more damage."

As they began to make their plans, the family atmosphere turned surprisingly light-hearted. Even in the face of danger, the Oberois knew that as long as they stood together, they could face anything—even a family betrayal.

And so, with a ridiculous yet brilliantly crafted plan in place, the Oberoi family once again proved that nothing could break their bond, not even shadows from the past.
