Chapter 30
Death's Werewolf Nymph
I didnât follow Xavierâs instruction to stay inside and headed for the packs center instead. If anything I was more in danger there, I was all alone there. No living soul was near me, if a vampire was about to attack I donât think even in werewolf form I could fight it off, I was not trained to fight at all. But this time I didnât go to the center because I was scared, I just needed to see what was happening. I remained in my human form and ran to my destination. I noticed many wolves already. And vampires in all their beauty, their faces were pale and eyes looked dead, but their skin was clear and glowing. I noticed some damage done to the pack, our weapon warehouse was demolished, and the doors were ripped out.
Alpha was standing surrounded by wolves guarding him. âWhat do you want?â he demanded the answer in his Alpha tone, letting chills run down my spine. Even proudness washed over me, I was proud of our Alpha. I knew that he would do anything for our safety.
One of the vampire men walked forwards making wolfs growl at him, he didnât look scared or offended, and his face was expressionless. âWe want whatâs ours. You dirty werewolves have something that needs to be only in our hands,â he said calmly.
âWe donât know what you are talking about,â Alpha exclaimed.
Vampires occasionally tormented werewolves. There has been bad blood between the species for some time.
âWe received information that somewhere within the walls of the werewolf pack is hidden our belonging,â they were hiding what they were looking for, they were so sure that the thing was here but still didnât say what.
Vampires never checked their information, they came just to attack. There could be a rumor about us having it, or someone else was trying to protect themselves and said to look at our pack.
âWe have nothing here! You barged in my pack and managed to destroy our property. What will it take for you to be at peace?â Alpha asked. Vampires and werewolves had a peace contract that vampires donât touch Werewolfâs and Werewolfâs donât touch vampires. In the contract it is said in case of a betrayal the contract remains nonexistent until further notice.
âOur peace is long gone⦠until we find whatâs ours.â vampire exclaimed.
âWe havenât got anything from your blood sucking coven. Leave my pack alone!â Alpha demanded.
For the first time I almost saw a smirk on Vampires face. âWe are already here. And my friends hereâ¦â he said referring to twenty other vampires that were next to him. âThey are a little thirsty from the long way here,â he said in a mocking tone.
âDonât evenâ¦â Alpha started but was cut off.
âI need one to ease my thirst a little. The person will⦠live⦠maybe,â The vampire said laughing I off, there was nothing that was holy to them. He looked around like already choosing his snack.
âYou are not getting anyone!â Alpha exclaimed. âOne for all and all for one, there is no one you will hurt here,â vampires didnât look too pleased with his answer.
I was sitting down on my knees behind a boulder. Someone approached me from the side. I looked over and it was Death. I looked at the side of his face.
He didnât look at me. He just looked ahead at vampires.
I didnât want to meet him after this long time in a time like this, but nothing ever happens like we expect it to. I wanted to speak with him about us, about anything else but what was happening in front of me. âCan they see you?â I asked Death because technically vampires were dead and it would make complete sense.
âNo,â he answered bluntly. âThey arenât living but they have no relation with the afterworld, in order to see me you need to be from the afterworld or with death angel blood orâ¦â he looked at me in sigh. âOr you have to be deathâs destined one,â He picked up a handful of watches from his coat pocket that were in a chain. He showed one to me and one of them looked like it ran out of battery⦠it was going two steps further and one back.
âWhat does that mean?â I asked Death.
âIt means that it has not been decided yet if it will stop,â he explained. âIt can go in two ways here, either many will die or no one will, or maybe one will,â he explained. âI think itâs time for you to leave now!â he said to me but I didnât move, I just kept staring ahead.
âMeredith! Leave! You can get hurt!â he warned me when I didnât listen he grabbed me by my hand and tried pulling me away.
I pulled my hand out of his grip. âDonât touch me!â I spat at him, making his eyes widen. All of a sudden guilt washed over me, I didnât mean to sound so harsh, and I just didnât like him telling me what to do.
I looked back at the argument Alpha had. âI wonât let you hurt anyone here!â he exclaimed.
âOne sip of blood and we are gone,â Vampire said with raised eyebrows. Their face expressions were very theatrical. As if they were mocking us or playing a part.
I heard many growls coming from the wolves. I knew that werewolf blood wasnât so tasty for vampires as human blood. They were doing this with the purpose of making fun of Alpha and they were no strangers to winning these kinds of fights. Vampires were much stronger than Werewolves, and they were more complicated to kill. I needed to make my mind right now if not the fight will take a turn for the worse. I looked at death and he was watching me with a suspicious look, I was sure he already knew my plan. He shook his head. âMeredith donât!â he warned me. âPlease,â he next pleaded when I didnât answer him.
I looked at him. âThis has nothing to do with you. I am making my own choice. I donât care if you donât like it. But like you said⦠you canât protect me. And no one can.â
âIâll do it!â I screamed from a distance and everyoneâs heads turned to me.
âWhy are you so stupid?â Death asked from beside me shocked, I didnât even bother answering him. I walked up to them while everyone watched me in awe. I stopped mid-way and let vampires approach me instead.
Of course Alpha got involved. âGet away from her!â he screamed at vampireâs while in slow motion they walked towards me. âShe doesnât know what sheâs talking about,â Alpha exclaimed but I was aware of what I was doing. Of the risk it could mean to me. I could die. But others here had much more reasons to stay alive. I didnât want to die. But I was the safest option.
âBut she offered so kindly,â the vampire said in a mocking voice. He was so close to me now, his eyes resembled dead fish. I could feel the coldness of his body radiating.
âItâs not too late Meredith!â Death warned me in an angry tone.
âMeredith! Go inside,â Alpha yelled.
âOne bite and you leave this pack with no fight, and you wonât come back ever!â I said and a smirk played on the vampireâs face.
âI wonât let it!â Alpha said and made his way towards me but stopped when I spoke.
âThis is my choice, I am doing this because I want to,â I explained to him but Alpha still looked uneasy.
âYou wonât be doing anyone a favor if you die,â Alpha said now in worry.
âIâll be okay,â I tried to assure him but I wasnât so sure myself.
Death spoke from beside me. âWhy arenât you thinking with your head?â he asked. âPlease donât do this.â
Vampire walked up to me and smirked. âIt will hurt only a little,â he said.
âDonât kill me,â I said, frightened and the vampire turned to his other friends and they all laughed at me.
âArenât you just cute,â he mocked me.
I took in a deep breath and put my hair away from my neck letting wind hit my naked skin there. âDo it already.â I said wanting this all to be finally done. Death walked to a place where he was right in front of my eyesight.
âYouâll be okay,â He said quietly but still he looked worried, âbut it will hurt⦠a lot,â a tear fell from my eye of the thought of how much it would hurt.
I kept my stare on Death as the vampire leaned in and quickly his fangs sliced my skin open on my neck. I screamed in agony. I had never felt pain like this. I tried to push him away but I donât think he even felt my trying to push him away. I felt like my head was about to explode, my whole body started to feel numb. âStop!â Alpha screamed. âYou will change her!â was the last thing I heard from Alpha when I fell in the darknessâ¦
