Chapter 5: To Help A Friend

Just Don't Ask {Damijon!}

~Third Person P.O.V~

The sun had already set, the cloak of night took over the sky, replacing the warm reddish-orange of dusk's twilight with a mysterious yet strangely calming darkness, bathing it in a sea of stars.

Damian, as usual was there exactly on time- or well, he was there around 20 minutes early. He was standing outside the Gotham Amusement park, one foot propped up against one of the many wooden supports holding up up the pier the amusement park was situated on.

Damian ditched his usual 'Casual' get up, opting for something far more incognito. Besides, who wears anything fancy to the amusement park.

Meanwhile Jon.. well as usual Jon was late.

Damian let out sigh before turning his gaze to his watch, then he let out a groan.

"6:30. I swear, if I have to wait another hour for that half-breed farmboy I'll-" his thoughts were cut short as he saw someone awkwardly get off one of the nearby buses, before breaking into a sprint.

"Damian! Damian!" Jon was shouting, his hair as messy as always, wearing one of his usual get ups, Damian noted as he made his way towards him.

"S-sorry.. I- I got here as fast as I could" Jon said, bending down resting his palms on his knees trying to catch his breath.

"Yes, of course. For someone with superspeed to be thirty minutes late, you obviously were going as fast as you can." Damian raised a brow "And why is the half-kryptonian winded after sprinting what.. 10 meters?"

"Keyword.." Jon said, straightening his posture. "Half, anyway-" Jon paused, eyeing the half-melted brown glob in cup that damian is currently holding.

"Is that what I think it is..?" Jon said, the corners of his mouth twitching ever so slightly.

"Yes, your favourite. I thought since-" Damian was cut off by Jon.

"Double-double chocolate-chocolate in a cup with chocolate sprinkles on the bottom and top!" Jon said outloud, his eyes lighting up, an excitedly wide and contagious smile finding its place on his lips.

"Err.. yes, that." Damian paused raising his finger to Jon as he was seemingly about to jump him. "You can have it once we're inside."

Damian turned towards the short set of steps leading towards the start of the pier when suddenly, he couldn't move.

He couldn't move his arms, nor his legs. His eyes went wide with panic before he realized what had just happened.

"What are you doing?" Damian said, in as firm as voice as he could muster. Holding back his blush.

"Duhh, thanking you." Jon said, squeezing harder on Damian who he had locked in an embrace "I thought Waynes were supposed to be smart." He said, before letting go.

"And why exactly would a hug from.. you be thanks?" Damian said, now walking towards the entrance seemingly regaining motor control.

Jon simply shrugged "Hugs are nice, and I've been told I give great hugs." Jon said, smugly which Damian found rather cute.

"And those people would be you-"

"Yes, my parents."

Damian merely rolled his eyes as they reached the ticket booth

An older, balding gentleman sat behind the counter. Extending his hand.

"Tickets or money." He said, disinterested.

Jon's eyes jolted slightly before he flashed damian a wide toothy grin which basically read "please?"

Damian rolled his eyes again and handed the man two, already bought tickets.

"You're getting predictable, kent." Damian teased.

"Kent..?" Damian turned around to see Jon staring up at all of the flashing lights, all the rides and games the amusement park had to offer.

"Wow.." Jon said.

"So, it really is your first time at an amusement park, huh?" Damian asked, knowingly.

"Yup." Jon said before turning to Damian, a wide smile on his face "So let's go!" He said out loud, grabbing onto Damian's hand and dragging him across the pier.

Again, Damian seemed to lose all control of his body. The world seemed to slow down, as Jon gripped his hand. He focused on Jon's firm yet gentle grip, how delicate and soft his hand felt. And try as he might he couldn't even hope to hide the blush creeping onto his face. Then it all stopped.

"Damian!" Jon said

"What?" Damian stated more than asked.

Jon pointed to one of the nearby booths, 3 poles with a number of rings resting in the middle of them. Stuffed animals adorning the front of the booth.

"You know you could always just go there on your own, right?" Damian said.

"Yeah, but its a hang out right?" Jon said, making his way towards the booth with Damian following suit.

"Here you go, kid. Hit at least 5 of the 15 rings into the poles and you can pick any stuffed toy you want!" The overly peppy man standing behind the booth said.

Jon excitedly took the rings and took a step back, before throwing the first.

*miss*

Jon tried again and again and again to no avail. Sticking his tongue out to better concentrate, throwing the last 2 at the same time. Both bouncing off of the poles.

"Aww that's alright, kid. Better luck next time." The man said, not a hint of sincerity in his voice.

Jon's expression morphed from one of excitement to one of disappointment.

"Now pay u-" Damian cut the man off, slamming his hands on table.

"Double or nothing." Damian said firmly.

"Sorry kid, that's not how the game wor-" damian interrupted him again

"How's triple?" Damian asked

The man smirked "I like your moxy kid. Deal." The man said, handing him the rings, not expecting damian to be able to land even one. His friend did terribly, so how could he fair any better.

Damian took the rings, and nonchalantly threw them towards the poles all at once. 5 rings per pole, landing all 15.

Needless the say, the man was taken by surprise. His eyes wide as Damian turned to Jon.

"Take three." He said, taking the nearly melted ice cream with him before walking away from the counter.

Jon's smile widened as he pulled three large stuffed toys, a husky, a duck and a bear before following Damian.

"Thanks Dami!" Jon said, holding onto the toys.

"Yeah, someone needed to wipe that smug look off his face anyway." Damian said "Now, let's find somewhere to sit first. Then we can get something to eat. Holding onto your ice cream is getting rather tedious."

"Oh right! Sorry about the you know, ice cream and-" Damian cut jon off, handing him the cup.

"Here, take it. I have to use the bathroom, find us a seat. I'll find you." Damian said, walking off.

"Oh, uhm ok" Jon said, swooshing around the melted ice cream in his cup as he walked towards one of the benches facing the waters of Gotham. "Its kinda melted" he said in a curious tone

"Mmmmmn!" Jon said, drinking up the melted mess. "Still good though!" He said, a smile sweet enough to match his favourite ice cream flavor adorned his face as he stared at the strangely mystifying waters of the gotham bay area.

Meanwhile.

Damian pushed the doors of one of the nearby bathrooms open. Checking if any of the stalls were occupied, he turned back towards the door after concluding they were empty and jammed it shut.

He slammed his back against and let out an exasperated sigh.

"How?" He said out loud, more as a demand than a question.

"Tell me how?!" He growled.

"Grr.. how the hell.. I was trained by the league of assassins since birth. I..." Damian paused before continuing. "I personally.. gutted a man at the age of 8 after he orchestrated an assassination attempt on my life" he hissed.

"If anyone fucking else.. anyone but sweet little kent.. wrapped their arms around, grabbed my hand and dragged me.. they'd be floored in seconds. Even on mere reflex" He said, getting up and walking over towards the mirror, staring at the disgruntled figure before him.

"So tell me. Why.. why the hell do I... get paralyzed everytime he.. he.." he paused, feeling blood rush to his cheeks. Clenching his fist, he continued. "TELL ME." He growled, gritting his teeth before he thrust his fist towards the mirror, shattering it into a thousand pieces.

Damian, pushed down on the sink before wiping a single bead of.. sweat? No.. a tear, streaming down his left cheek.

Rubbing it between his thumb and index finger, he sighed. Staring at one of the broken pieces on the floor.

"Don't lie, we both already know the answer." He said to himself, closing his eyes, he breathed in deep, steeling his nerves.

"That just leaves the question... what do I do now?" He opened his eyes once more, stepping onto the piece on the floor, hearing it crunch beneath his shoe, he pulled the door open before slamming it shut.
