Chapter 27
Sweet Submission: Reclaiming Her Love
Chapter 27 A Fool With Money To Burn As Kaden watched Elliot gulp down more than half a bottle of whiskey in one go, he couldnât help but let out a sigh.
Elliot could have done otherwise.
After hesitating for a moment, he cleared his throat and said, âMr. Andrews, itâs clear to see that you care a lot about Miss Harper. Why havenât you informed her about your feelings?â
For close to a decade now, Kaden had been by Elliotâs side, and he had never seen anyone stir up such strong emotions in his boss the way Corynn did.
To Elliottâs love life, Kaden was a witness, and he knew Elliotâs heart was totally for Corynn.
Elliot placed the bottle in his hand on the table and let out a sad sigh.
Closing his eyes, he reflected on Kadenâs words and let out another sigh.
He had been on the verge of getting drunk, but he was now sober and his mind was very clear.
He indeed cared for Corynn and was only drinking because he was frustrated by her continuous show of disdain towards him.
Anytime she acted indifferent toward him, he always got agitated.
As he thought of Corynn, he pursed his lips and gently rubbed his throbbing temples. Though she now had some impressive abilities, she still wasnât strong enough to stand beside him.
Amanda had strongly believed that it was imminent that Harper Group was going to file for bankruptcy. However, Corynn had managed to beat expectations and keep the group alive, holding out until the delivery day.
Clearly, she had underestimated just how determined of a fighter Corynn was.
But still, Amanda believed that the announcement of Harper Groupâs bankruptcy was inevitable.
She had already arranged for the media to report the news of the Harper Groupâs demise and had her lawyer draft a takeover plan. Today, whether Corynn liked it or not, the Harper Group was going to be wiped off the surface of Orleans for good.
Sitting leisurely in her living room, Amandaâs eyes were fixated on the television as she watched the news.
The area around the Harper Groupâs headquarters was swarming with journalists from numerous news stations, all eagerly broadcasting the event. On the internet, eager spectators were placing bets on what the outcome would be.
0.0%
16:40 Chapter 27 A Fool With Money To Burn The odds, which were nearly eighty to one, clearly favored the Willis family to come out on top.
Though the sums being staked were peanuts by Amandaâs standards, she still placed tens of millions of bets on herself.
Due to this, the odds skyrocketed to one hundred to two.
Going through the bets, she saw that there were only two people who had wagered on the Harper Group, and each had wagered only ten dollars.
Chuckling, Amanda shook her head and was about to place her phone down when the smile on her face froze.
Someone had just wagered a bet worth tens of millions on Harper Group! Before Amanda could recover from this unexpected development, two more identical bets followed.
She gasped and leaped off the sofa like she had been burned. Who on earth would dare to go against the Willis family?
âAmanda!â Daniela called out from outside. Amanda gazed at the direction in which Danielaâs voice had come from and her anger dissipated somewhat.
When Daniela walked in and saw the stunned look on her friendâs face, she frowned and asked, âIs everything okay, Amanda?
Are you sick or something?â
Amanda said nothing and simply placed her phone in her friendâs palm.
After seeing what had happened, Daniela rolled her eyes and chuckled, âWhoever did this, is nothing but the biggest fool to have ever existed! Why would they want to throw away so much amount of money?â
âI know itâs a waste, but it still kind of bothers me,â Amanda said with a frown.
Everyone in Orleans should know that the Willis family was going after the Harper Group and was determined to make them fall.
Betting on Harper Group was nothing but a blatant act of insult directed at the Willis family!
âAmanda, I believe Corynn has a suitor, right? Who knows, itâs probably him who is throwing away such a huge amount of money, probably to impress her,â Daniela suggested.
Amanda nodded in agreement and pursed her lips.
Sure, ten million was nothing to her, but then, to some people, it was simply an unimaginable amount of money. In fact, there were some listed companies that only had ten million in their accounts.
Daniela shook her head and continued, âAnyone with a functioning brain ought to know that today is the day that the Harper Group will collapse. In short, I canât imagine anyone else doing this but Corynnâs suitor. That idiot wouldnât be affected much if he loses this much money.â
Hearing this, Amanda smiled softly and felt a little better.
She was well aware that this suitor was none other than Jason, heir to the Reid family, which was one of the three major families in Orelens.
Shaking her head, Amanda couldnât help but wonder what was so special about Corynn that would make even Jason fall in love with her and seek her hand in marriage.
At that moment, Amanda looked up at the television and was met with a sight that almost caused her heart to 43.1%
