Chapter 10
Jennie's Baby
It was holiday that day when Jennie went out with Rosie. When she ask Lisa for permission, she immediately let her. She wanted to bring her along with them but she said she would just stay at the mansion saying it was her time out to be with a friend.
She gave her five hundred thousand won and told her to buy whatever she wants. She was reluctant to accept the money but Lisa insisted.
"You look so happy today." Rosé noticed. They were at the lingerie section of the department store. "Love can really change a person." she teased. "You know what, I really thought Jisoo was dating you. That lady was really a playgirl. Well, she's really a good catch."
"You're right, Jisoo was a good catch but Lisa is the best catch because aside from being gorgeous, she's filthy rich. Imagine, she gave me five hundred thousand as a shopping money." she said.
They both laughed. "Yah, don't tell that to Lisa. She would get really mad."
"Of course. Besides, it was so obvious that you really love Lisa Sajangnim, and not because she's rich. Your eyes even sparkle by just mentioning her name."
"Is it that obvious?" Jennie cupped both of her cheeks while looking at her friend.
"Relly obvious." Rosé said while nodding.
She laugh once again. "You're right, Rosie. I love Lisa very much. I loved her real personality. And whatever happens I don't regret what happened between us."
"You mean..."
She nodded while blushing.
Not too far away from them, a person was having a celebration. The two woman's conversation was recorded clearly on that person's phone, at least, the part that the person can use to get a revenge from Lisa. The lady was ignoring that person but at the end she would only end up with a gold digger. That person was already imagining what would be Lisa's reaction when she received the audio recording, and that person wanted to laugh loudly from joy.
It was five in the afternoon when Jennie got home. With a few paperbags on hand, but most of the things she bought were for Lisa. She only liked a few for herself. The see through negligee was one of it and she was planning to wear it later.
"Hi," she met Lisa on the middle of the staircase. And she was dressed up. "Where are you going?"
"Jisoo Unni called. We'll just meet somewhere."
Her brows furrowed with the coldness she was showing to her. Why did she suddenly lost interest with her. "What time will you be back?"
"I don't know."
Lisa continued walking down without looking back at her. Even the warm kisses which she always gives her were suddenly forgotten.
On the other hand, she and Jisoo didn't really had a talk to meet that time. Lisa just wanted to go out because she was really angry. Who wouldn't get mad when you heard the woman you loved in an audio recording bragging about how she was a best catch coz she have lots of money. And even had the audacity to show off the money she received from her.
She was not expecting to hear it from Jennie, of all people! She already thought that she's really different from the other women she had met. She managed to decline her offer before and did not easily fell from her charms. Turns out it's all just for a show.
She hit the steering wheel of her car using her fist in annoyance. She was really furious! And it's not just anger that she was feeling. The pain is higher, since she's already inlove with her. She loves her more than anything that she has right now.
What kind of a curse did stick up to her that the people around her can't love her for real the way she love them? She picked up her phone and and looked for someone whom she can be with. And since Joy's name was the second on her contact list, she dialed the woman's number.
Jennie was starting to feel nervous. It's two am, but Lisa still hasn't come back yet and she couldn't help but to worry. She's not her answering calls and it's really confusing her. She couldn't think of anything she did for her to act that way. Why is she suddenly acting like the way she is before?
She already called Jisoo awhile ago and she was told that the two didn't meet up.
"Lisa, what's happening with you? Where are you?" she was starting to tear up.
A few minutes more and she heard the sound of a car's engine. She ran down to see who it was.
"Lisa!"
The woman was so drunk. And she's not alone.
"Joy? W-We're you out together?"
The questioned woman did not answer her. She went near them to help Lisa, but she slapped her hand away.
"I don't like you!" she angrily snapped at her which surprised Jennie.
Joy brought the drunk lady up to her room. She was following them behind even when Joy helped Lisa down her bed.
"I-It's okay, Joy. I'll take care of Lisa."
"Didn't you hear what she said awhile ago? She doesn't like you! Why don't you just make yourself useful and get me some warm water and a towel. After that you can go back to your room! You're obviously not wanted here!" Joy rudely commented.
Jennie felt her whole body went numb. She was like a robot being controlled by a remote, quietly followed the instructions.
Jennie felt her knees shaking as she enters her room. She feel so upset. Why did Lisa lied to her? And to top it all, she really had to bring that woman whom she spent her whole night with here in the mansion! She knew that she didn't loved her, but can't she at least respect her as a woman?
Her tears started falling down like tap water. It hurt so much. She press her face down the pillow and sobbed.
The next day, the two were already having breakfast when she went down to the dining area. Joy was sweetly feeding Lisa with a piece of bread. She felt a stabbed in her heart.
"H-hi!" she greeted her. Joy smiled sarcastically. Lisa just sneered and did not greets her back. "A-Are you going to work today?"
"Isn't it obvious? I'm already wearing my clothes for work." she mockingly answered. She didn't talk to her after. Until they brought Joy back to her unit and til they reached the office she was like not existing to Lisa.
That night she talked to her.
"That digit should be enough for all the things that happened between us."
Jennie felt like a bucket of iced cold water was splashed to her when Lisa gave her a cheque with the amount of thirty million won.
"W-What is the meaning of this? I don't understand."
Lisa grinned. "Is the amount too low for you? Were you not expecting that amount coming from a 'best catch' like me?" she went paled. "Are you surprised?" Lisa took her phone and played an audio recording.
"L-Lisa, I c-can explain."
"No need. I already caught you red handed. You can't make me believe in you again no matter what you say." she said with clenched jaw.
"B-But, Lisa, you don't understand!"
"Are you going to deny that the voice in that audio is not yours? Are you going to deny that I heard you said those things?"
Jennie couldn't speak. How is she going to explain it to her if she didn't want to listen anymore?
"Just accept that cheque. Don't bother hoping that I would marry you just because you were a virgin. Even before I have never even thought of keeping you." she spoke coldly.
"L-Lisa.."
The truth really hurts. Jennie knew that their relationship isn't for keeps. And she was not expecting her to take responsibility for what happened between them. But it still hurt to hear the truth coming straight from her mouth. Gold digger or not, Lisa never had plans just how she dreamed to be with her, forever.
Jennie aggressively wiped her tears. She was never that type of person who would push themselves more towards the person who doesn't like them anymore. She took her innocence and broke her heart. But she could still leave with pride intact. That's the only consolation she could give herself.
"If that's how you think and know about me then t-there's nothing I can do about it." she took a deep breath to calm herself. If she wanted to have a break down, it shouldn't be in front of her. She wouldn't give her a reason to celebrate. "Say whatever you want but I won't accept this cheque. But don't worry, I don't have any plans of getting back at you. And starting from now, you won't hear anything from me also. But please, let me do my job until your Grandmother comes back. Then, I'll resign."
She already had her back facing the woman. The moment she got inside her room she broke down. So this is how it hurts to love and lose.
More days had passed and they were like a stranger to each other. Both riding the same car but they never talked. Jennie still do what she has to do like before. Trying so hard to look happy when she's in front of other people. But it didn't took long before Rosé noticed it.
"Jennie, I hope you don't mind me asking, but did you and Lisa had a fight?"
She brought her head down sadly. Tears starting to form on the corner of her eyes.
"I often see you looking so sad and spacing out. And your eyes are always swollen whenever you comes here."
"S-Someone heard our conversation back at the department store. They sent an audio recording to Lisa."
"What? B-But who?" Jennie shook her head. "Oh, my! Jennie, it wasn't me! I can never do that!"
She smiled reassuringly at her friend. "Don't worry, Rosie, I know it's not you. But it's not important now to find out who did."
"Eh~, what should we do? How about you?"
She shrugged her shoulders.
"I will go to Lisa sajangnim. I will explain it all to her!"
"Rosie, don't!"
"But.."
She shook her head. "It's okay. She had already made up her mind about me. She won't believe in you anyway."
"Jennie..." she held her hand.
"I'm fine. Her grandmother is coming back soon. When Mrs. Manoban arrives at the mansion I will resign. I'll get over her soon when I go back home."
She made it sound so easy. Like it's that simple to recover. But she has no other choice but to move on and forget about everything.
Just like what she had promised to the woman, she immediately talked to her grandmother the day after she arrived from another country. Davika got surprised because she never once mentioned a problem with Lisa in her emails. She just told the old lady that her parents needed her back at home that's why she's leaving.
She also handed Mrs. Manoban an envelope with five hundred thousand won inside. She said that she borrowed it from Lisa when she needed it. The old lady didn't ask anything but she was giving her skeptical stares. But Jennie chose to just ignore it.
The next day, holding the bag where she puts her things she brought on her first day, she left the mansion.
"Good morning, Halmeoni." Lisa greeted her grandmother. The chair opposite hers was empty.
"Are you looking for Jennie? She passed her resignation letter to me last night. She said she has to leave because she's needed in their house."
Lisa felt her body shivered. So Jennie really did what she promised before. And she didn't told her grandmother the truth. She should be happy. She's just like those other women she dated before. But why does it feel so heavy? She won't be seeing her again. Her sweet, loving and wild Jennie!
"By the way, she left five hundred thousand to me. She said she borrowed it from you."
She stayed silent. She force herself to swallow the food but the food tasted bitter inside he mouth.
After their breakfast, she went inside the room which Jennie occupied. It was clean and neat. The closet was empty except for the paperbags which she probably bought. Lisa took them out and see what was inside. The clothes surprised her, they were her sized; cotton shirts, shorts, blouses. There was also a bottle of her favorite perfume and face mist. She must have seen the almost empty bottles so Jennie bought one for her, using the money Lisa gave her to buy herself some things. There was only a one paperbag that has clothes with Jennie's size, two t-shirts and red see through negligee in it.
She smiled bitterly. She was so quick to judge Jennie just because of an audio recording to think that she didn't even know who sent it, and for that small amount she did not even ask for. Yes, she took it but did not use for herself. She was thinking about her while she was shopping.
"I knew you'd be here." says the voice of her grandmother. She heard the old lady went inside. "Lisa, we need to talk."
"If you're going to ask me if I had a relationship with Jennie, yes! We slept together, not just once." she stared at the ceiling while having difficulty breathing. "I took her innocence, but I did not treasure it. I pushed her away because I listened to other people than her." she said in a low and helpless voice.
"You're inlove with her, aren't you?"
"If that's the reason why I'm in pain right now, then maybe I do really love her. But she doesn't deserve someone like me who didn't know how to trust. I don't deserve her, Halmeoni. I don't deserve to be loved!"
"That's not true, Lisa."
"Isn't it? My own family can't even love me, isn't that enough reason?"
"I love you, Lisa."
"Really? Doesn't look like that to me." she answered bitterly.
Davika took a deep breath. "I know I haven't been a good grandmother to you. But there's a reason why I'm like this. And I can't say I'm proud of what I've become, because I'm not! And if only I could turn back time to change myself, I would!"
"What do you mean?"
Her grandmother sat beside her. "I fell inlove once. I was young and he was my first. But he died before we got married. I was deeply hurt and got scared to love again. I figured that if I wouldn't pour all of my love towards someone it won't hurt me that much to when I lose that someone. Lame excuse but I did it, anyway.
I married your grandfather even if I didn't love him that much. I cried when he died, but I quickly recovered. Just like the case with your father, he grew up not being close with me. It was already too late when I realized what I did. I might've protected myself but I hurt other people.
God knows about your father being angry with me when he died. And I wanted to make it up to him with you, but I don't how or what to do and you're already far away from me. I feel hurt because everyone think of me as a huge block of ice. But I'm such a coward to prove that I wasn't."
She swallowed hard. "H-Halmeoni..." it was the very first time she saw her grandmother crying.
"You were so young and I should've been there for you. It might not be literally but I still ran away from my responsibility, just like the person whom you thought your mother was."
"Mama.."
"She's not your real mother. You're father had you from a different woman. It was impossible for Solada to carry a child eversince she started having complications after giving to her and your father's child. The baby was stillborn."
"No wonder..."
"You shouldn't be blaming her. She accepted you. Maybe she just couldn't really take loving someone who isn't related to her by blood. So she left."
"Why are you telling me this now?"
"Because I don't want you to end up like me and Solada. Maybe we had different reasons for pushing people away. Mine is fear. For Solada, it might be guilt. It's just sad because we both let the negative feeling consume us instead of enjoying to love and being loved. And we grew old and empty."
"D-Do you have any news about M-Mama?" Even if she learned that Solada is not her real mother, she still treat the woman as her mom.
"She's in Paris, in a nursing home. Still lonely up to now."
Lisa covered her face in her palms. "Can you give me some time alone?" She needed time to think things through. "Please?" she continued when she noticed that Davika didn't move even a bit.
"I'm already old, Lisa, and I would bring my loneliness to my grave. But it's not too late for you. Don't let Jennie get away from you, if you really love her. It's hard to live a life with full of regrets." Davika manage to continue before leaving her inside the room.
Lisa felt the sides of her eyes heating. And for the first time in her adult life, she cried. She cried for all the wasted years, for her grandmother, for the woman she grew up with as her mother, and more importantly, herself.
Her mother called her saying that she has a visitor waiting on their living room. Jennie went out of her room and followed her mother. She was shocked to see the person sitting on their couch.
"What do you want? Why are you here?"
"I-I just want to talk to you."
The woman's voice was full of insecurities. And she's not like before who's always so full of herself.
"For what? I'm not bothering you anymore, right? And I handed the money back to your grandmother so I don't have any debt to you."
"Jennie, please, let's talk about our relationship." Lisa pleaded.
"We don't have any relationship, Lisa! What we had were a few days of heated passion! So please, my parents didn't know about what happened between us. And I don't want to hurt them. If it's possible, just leave me alone. I just want to forget about everything. There are other girls that you can play with. Please, just not me."
She wanted to scold herself because she couldn't stop the tears that ran down her cheeks. She missed her so badly, and whatever she do, she knew she will never forget her.
She stood up to go back to her room.
"Do you really think that I'm just playing with you? Don't you want to see me again?" her voice was begging that she wanted to give in already. Even though she got hurt with her words and what she did to her, she still didn't want to see her having a hard time. "I don't deserve you. And maybe you're better off without me. I just can't let you go without me saying I love you."
"Lisa, please..." she mumbled. She felt her standing behind her.
"Turn around, Baby. Please look at me." she turns to face her. Lisa was staring at her eyes. Her eyes reflected the same longing she felt. "Before you came into my life, I was a complete mess. With no sense sense of direction, doesn't give a f-ck about what will happen. When you came, you made me accept what was missing in my life. You made me realize and see
the things I keep on denying. That I'm only pretending not needing the love people was giving me. That deep inside, I never stopped hoping, that someone will come along, see through me, and love me." slowly she went down to her knees infront of her.
"L-Lisa, what are you doing?"
"I'm a stubborn and huge pain in the a$$. I have a lot to learn about life, about trust and love. I need a patient teacher, Jennie. I need you! I need you because I love you. I love you so d@mn much!"
"W-What you just said? Is it true?"
"I now swear infront of your parents."
"B-But they just went inside their bedroom."
"We're just right here, Jen." Surprised, she turns to face her mother, who is standing beside her father, and beside her Dad was... Mrs. Manoban?
"I really hope you could forgive my granddaughter, Jennie. I promise to be the one who will punish her once she hurt you again." says Davika whom she just saw wearing a sincere and real smile in her face.
"That's right, Jen. Actually, we already scheduled the date of your marriage. You wouldn't want to cancel it, right?"
Jennie's eyes grew wide. Did Lisa already asked for her hand in marriage from her parents? She just managed to stare at the woman infront of her in utter amazement.
The uncertainty was still present in her smile. And her eyes seemed to beg her.
"Will you stand up already!"
"D-Does it mean..."
"Guess, there's nothing I can do anymore."
Lisa jump back to her feet, smiling widely, pulled her in to huge bear hug while kissing her all over her face not minding their audience. Lisa only stopped and let her go when her father cleared his throat. When she glanced at him, she saw him smiling, his eyes coveyed his approval and joy.
Lisa's arm went back to her waist and pulled her back into a hug. She looked up and lovingly smiled at her.
"Oh, Rosie, what made you come here?" Lisa asks the receptionist who was waiting for her on the living room of their mansion.
"Well, it's because I just can't keep quiet while Jennie keeps on hurting."
With a hint of amusement she cocked her eyebrows up.
"Me and Jennie we're just joking when we talked about you. My friend really loves you, it's true!"
"Is that so?"
The blonde woman nodded her head. Just then Jennie who was hiding behind the divider cabinet made her entrance. Rosé was shocked to see her friend. Her eyes even widen more when Jennie puts her arms around Lisa's waist.
"W-Wait, am I just seeing things? Did the two of you got back together?"
"Yup!" Lisa anwered with a smile before placing a soft kiss on the forehead of the woman she loves.
"Really! Thank, God!" she weakly slumped down the couch. "Who sent you that recording anyway?"
"It was Joy. But let's just leave her be, she's just jealous that I love someone else."
"Hah! No wonder she was with you when you came home really drunk. And you even slept beside her!" Jennie sulked.
Lisa playfully pinched Jennie's nose, she hugged her so tight and started raining kisses all over her face. Rosé was watching them with smile.
"I'm really sorry, hon. I was just really drunk that time but nothing happens."
"Uh-huh. Just don't do it again, okay?"
"Never! I promise! My nanny is too d@mn scary for me to even do that again."
The three of them laugh loudly.
