Chapter 70

Advice

The heroic villainess

This chapter's song is: Advice by Taemin!

Sylvia's POV:

I slam my window shut in my intruder's face and close the curtains.

"Come on Sylvia, you're not still mad about that, are you?"

"Lillian! Can you please tell Father that a boy is trying to break into his daughter's room!" I say as I return to my vanity table. Lillian stole a glance from the window. "Now," I say. She nods before leaving the room.

As I reach for my brush, a sudden cold breeze loosens my grip as it drops to the floor. Rolling my eyes, I bent down to reach for it. When I sit up, there was the intruder standing behind me.

"It will take ten minutes for Lillian to reach my father, twelve if she decides to walk slowly. It will then take him two minutes to grab his sharpest sword and burst into my room, ready to decapitate you. All in all, you have about fourteen minutes at most," I say, not batting an eye.

"Sylviana..."

"Don't bother saying my name," I say icily.

"I was walking around the square and saw the most beautiful diamond clip, almost as beautiful as you-"

"Flattery will get you nowhere."

"However..." He places his arms on either side of me, trapping me in my seat.

"It was nowhere near as radiant as you," he finishes.

"Ace von Klioth Hefelia, am I not an amazing fiancee?"

"The best I could ever hope for?"

"Am I not kind?"

"There is no one kinder."

"Am I not fun to be around?"

"There is no other place I'd rather be than beside you."

"You say that... and yet despite me waiting six hours, you never seemed to show up at the very first ball that I organised and hosted all by myself, now tell me how I would feel?"

"Unimaginable anger?"

"Wrong," I turn around and look up into his ashy eyes " Raging sorrow and embarrassment. I wore a dress that matched your eyes. Lucas was there with Rin, Len didn't move away from Violet and yet, I was there all alone." My eyes turned into crescents as I faced forwards into my mirror, brushing a lock of my hair.

I felt Ace lean on top of my head as his arms moved inwards towards me.

"I'm sorry."

"I even styled my hair nicely. I'm not sure my hair will ever be as beautiful as it was that night. It'll take more than that for me to forgive you."

"What will it take?" I don't answer.

"Sylvia..." He whines.

"Stop it, you'll ruin my hair..."

"I really am sorry, I was just in an unavoidable situation."

"Such as?"

"..."

"Whatever. I don't even care. Get out, it's improper for you to be in my room this late when I'm indecent," I say, looking down at my nightgown. It was anything but indecent, however, my heart sank.

"I've normally visited you late at night, I've even seen you wet. This is anything but indecent."

"I'm also tired. If you have nothing more to say then leave," I say, getting up from my seat and facing him fully.

"I'll make it up to you," he says as he kisses my hand. "Have a nice rest Sylvia," he says as he climbs onto my windowsill.

"Ace..." I call out. He turns his head, his whole body shining from the moonlight.

"I truly don't care what situation you were caught up in, but I..." I clenched my fist close to my heart as I looked at him.

"I know, we can talk more tomorrow, however, I can hear footsteps running here. It seems fourteen minutes are up..." I turn towards my door. My head looked back and Ace was gone. As if on cue, the door burst open with my dad charging into my room with his newly cleaned sword.

My mother tried to calm him down as he attempted to jump down the window to catch Ace. Everything drowned out as I thought about him. Soon enough, my room was cleared again with my window locked. After everyone had gone, I unlocked the window. I don't know why, but I did.

I went to bed after that, however, I could only sleep after an hour of turning and pondering over what I was feeling.

Ace's POV:

I sneaked back into my room. The lights were still off however as soon as I stepped foot into the room, I felt the presence of a certain someone. The lights relit in an instant as I saw my father sitting down with his leg crossed over the other and with a stern look upon his face.

"Greetings to the Glorious Ruler of Hefelia, his-"

"Forget all that, we're not in public."

"What brings you here so late, father?"

"I could ask you the same, where can the crown prince be coming back from so late in the night?"

"..." I don't break from his gaze. Suddenly, he sighs and kicks out another chair.

"Girl troubles?"

"I doubt this is anything you would know about-"

"Trust me son, there are more things about women that I know than don't. I am married to one."

"Hm, I doubt you can trust that whatever you say now won't be brought back to mother's ears."

"So long as the conversation stays between us, I think I can trust what I am about to say." I scoff and grin as I sit in the chair.

"My fiancee is a bit mad at me for missing her ball," I say.

"That hardly seems anything to get worked ove-"

"The first ball that she herself hosted." I finished. My father whistled and chuckles.

"Yeah, you're deep in trouble." I sigh as I lean onto the table.

"On a scale of one to-"

"Eight."

"Well, that's lower than I-"

"She said my full name. Even the middle name."

"... Did you explain why?"

"I couldn't because of a certain someone ordering me to do you-know-what on that same day," I glare.

"Oh... yeah... Sorry about that. But it was urgent."

"I know. And she understood even without me telling her. But it still hurt her feelings."

"Well, then I guess you'll just have to make it up to her."

"And pray tell, how do I do that?"

"Did I ever tell you about the time I missed your mother's 20th birthday?"

"You mean when Nanny Rose told me that she used you for target practice for her heels?"

"Yes, ahem, well, in order to... appease her anger, I had roses sent to her every day, each with a handwritten apology and unique poem. I also sent her food. Lots. Of food."

"And did it work?"

"Of course not. It just softened the blow. There are many reasons why a woman is upset with you. Out of about 300 reasons, there will be about one reason where she is just upset and takes it out on you, fifty will be about what you did, fifty is for not understanding why she's upset about what you did and the rest are all the other reasons. Point is, this specific reason is that she was upset that I wasn't there with her to celebrate with her and share our memories together. For your mother, it was her birthday and for Sylviana-"

"It was this ball..."

"Precisely. The only way to properly solve this is to create a new memory in place of the one she wished to share with you. In other words, take her out on a date." I smiled as I realised what to do.

"Thank you, father. And may I ask where you took mother?"

"I took her to see the rainbow willows in Ecellia. It was truly a mesmerising sight."

"And did it work?" My father flashed me a confident grin as he spoke.

"Nine months later, you were born."

I guess you know what the next chapter will be about <3
