First day back
The heroic villainess
This chapter's song is: To be or not to be by ONEUS!
Sylvia's POV:
It's been a week since that date and the new term had started. We were now officially part of high society and though I don't feel like it, it's been a year since I came to this school. My fifteenth birthday is right around the corner and then it's my official engagement to Ace.
In case you don't know, fifteen is the age at which the engagement between two nobles is renewed by the nobles themselves instead of their parents. It also provides a chance for the nobles in question to really talk about the future. After that, the only time they can back out of the engagement is at the wedding.
Right now, I'm back in my dorm and Lillian is unpacking my luggage while I read a book.
"Be careful with that Lillian, it's very important," I say as I see Lillian holding a brown case. Inside is the finished prototype for the bow and arrow. We figured that the only elements that worked with the bow and arrow were fire and wind so we decided to make things like ice bow and arrows a customised weapon which costs more.
"Of course milady," Lillian says as she places it on my desk. I look at the time and see that it's half three. I promised to meet Rin and the gang in ten minutes. With that, I hopped off my bed and grabbed my bag.
"I'm going out for a moment Lillian. I'll be in the school garden," I say before waiting for a reply and leaving.
I walk into the Royal gardens and see Rillaine, Monique and Violetta sitting around a table.
"Hello," I say as I walk up to them.
"Sylvia! You're here! I missed you so much!" Rin beams as she hugs me to death.
"It's only been a week, Rillaine," Violet says.
"Feels like an eternity," Rin replies.
Monique laughs at the response as she takes a sip out of her tea. We're all a year older but I see nothing has really changed. I look over my table and see a redhead girl arguing with Mason. I remember her at our family's ball.
"Who's that?" I ask.
"Oh, that's Mason's cousin, Vivienne. She's the daughter of the captain of the roaring lions," Violet says.
"The roaring lions?" I repeat.
"Yeah, didn't you know?"
"I only thought there was the Royal guard," I say.
"No, there are actually three different knight orders. The Royal Guard is lead by Mason's father and is the main defence of the Royal family; however, there are other orders to keep an eye on the kingdom. There are the roaring lions and golden dawns. The golden dawns keep an eye on the Kingdom only while the roaring lions are assigned to borders. However, rumour has it that the Royal family has another secret knight order that does all its dirty work. However, it's just rumoured," Rin says as she eats a biscuit. I'm surprised how Rin even knows there's a secret knight squad if it's only rumoured.
"Why the hell not?!" I hear Vivienne roars from the other side of the courtyard.
"Because it's compulsory for girls!" Mason replied.
"There ain't no way in hell I'M embroidering for two hours straight!" Vivienne yells.
"It's not like I can do anything about that! Speak to the headmaster, not me!" Mason says.
"Perhaps I will..." Vivienne snarls as she places a hand on her sword. Oh, it looks like our newest industrial sword. It was enchanted with ten different spells to make it the sharpest and lightest sword yet. It was also very expensive. I believe Monique sold it for 200 gold coins.
"No Vivienne, you can't use brute force!" Mason says as he holds his cousin back.
"Why not?! Men use brute force all the time!" She's got a point.
"Wow, the ladies in the Redcliffe family are very headstrong," Rillaine says. We continue to watch the spectacle of Mason trying to calm his cousin down and even Mason's older brother Elijah comes.
Elijah had the usual fiery red hair and eyes. It's been months since I've seen him since our last encounter at the welcome ball. If I remember, Elijah is three years older than Mason which means he's in his last year.
"Now now, calm down Vivienne, it's alright. No need to shed any blood," Elijah says calmly.
"Make me take music classes and there will be bloodshed," Vivienne shoots back.
"Music class is a good way to learn control. Not to mention it's a very calming subject," Elijah says.
"I AM CALM! AM I NOT CALM?! IS THIS NOT CALM ENOUGH FOR YOU?!?!" Vivienne screams. "WHERE'S ARTESIA?! I'M SURE SHE WILL AGREE WITH ME!"
"Artesia is probably in music class already," Mason says.
"What?! The traitor!"
"Not really. Just think about it. I'm sure your father said that if you don't master the art of the violin, then he won't buy you the armour from Silver Dragon," Elijah says.
"Humph, I can just get it myself..." Vivienne says stubbornly.
"Ah yes, but you'll never get the money in time, and the armour gets sold out very quickly! However... If you master music and embroidery then I'll ask my good friends, who so happen to be the founders of Silver Dragon, to reserve you a set," Mason smiles.
"You... You mean it?" Vivienne asks.
"Of course! Now go or you'll be late!" Mason beams.
We all watch as Vivienne stomps away. Mason lets out a sigh as Elijah rubs his head.
"It's a wonder why Vivienne is like this," Elijah sighs.
"Well, you two seem exhausted," I say as I sip my tea.
"Oh hey Slyvia, how are you," Mason asks.
"I'm fine, but I'm not sure if Monique will be."
"How could you make such a preposterous promise like that! We haven't even completed the pre-orders for that armour and you want us to reserve you a set?! Need I remind you that this armour needs to be customised to your exact measurements and it takes a lot of time! We may be your friends but you're crossing the line!" Monique rants.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry! Please forgive me!" It's a sight to see. The future bodyguard of the crown prince is cowering behind his brother. It seems that not even one of the best swordsmen in the kingdom can go up against Monique when it comes down to money.
"We truly are sorry, miss Deveraux. However, I'd be willing to pay double for your troubles. Just please reserve a set," Elijah says.
"Double?! But then you'd be paying over 300 gold coins. Are you sure?" Violet asks.
"Yes, it's all for the sanity of my uncle. He'd be more than happy to pay any price so long as his daughter isn't going around slicing things in half," Elijah replies.
"Fine... We'll squeeze her in for a fitting, but if she's late, then the deal's off. Also, you owe us a favour," Monique says as she writes in her account book again.
I glance at Mason as I sip my tea. He's going to be in a lot of debt... Elijah soon looked at me before dropping to his knees. I was so shocked I dropped my cookie.
"W-what is this?"
"Pardon me, my lady. I am deeply sorry for what transpired the last time I was at your manor," he says. Oh, the whole attack thing.
"It's no qualm of mine I assure you-"
"Elijah, what are you doing?!" Mason asks. Elijah fell to his knees 3with a hand on his heart, almost as if he's receiving orders.
"I should have begged for your forgiveness before but I had not the opportunity until now, please accept my deepest regrets. You were more courageous than half of my knights."
"And you shall have my forgiveness so please rise this instant," I panic as I look around. This is so embarrassing.
"Elijah, you're embarrassing her, get up!" Mason says as he pulls his brother back to his feet.
"Really, I haven't spared a second thought on that matter. If anything, I should be thanking you and your knights for risking your lives to protect my family," I say as I regain my composure. Please don't go on your knees again.
"Ahem, you're most kind. Completely different from what I had in mind for Silver's sister," he clears his throat.
"Ah, I hope I am the exact opposite of what you had in mind then," I say dryly. He chuckles as we continue to make small talk before we hear a loud shriek and clashing of metal.
"Vivienne! No swords! No swords!" Mason screamed as he and Elijah sprinted to the training grounds.
"Oh my, wasn't that eventful," Violet remarks as she sips her tea.
"Ooh, a bunny! It's so cute! It reminds me of Lucas!" Rin says as she spots a bunny with ink coloured fur and crimson eyes. She immediately runs after it and we sigh as we watch her communicate with the bunny. She is truly loved by everyone. A smile grew on my face as I watched her.
Hey, I'm just going to be editing the other parts. Just spacing em out so they don't look like clumps. It's been about two years since I started so needless to say, my writing standard had drastically improved. I may make a few slight edits just to improve but it's really just neatening it up and correcting spelling mistakes. Thanks for reading anyways!
