Part 51

The heroic villainess

"Your father must be out of his goddamn mind! Has he gone senile?!" I shout. "Why the hell is that slimy, no-good, oxygen-wasting hairball being considered as part of the succession line?!"

"Calm down Sylvia."

"Calm down?! How do you expect me to calm down?! Ace, you're too calm. Stop underreacting!"

"It's alright. It's only being considered. I'm sure my uncle made a claim that my father couldn't currently dispute. He knows better than to have two people fighting for succession."

"But there's too many variables with this. Why are there secret talks of weapon trading? Why are there plans to change the agriculture? Why has Mikaeyla crawled out of God knows where and is engaged to that ugly, troll-faced-"

"I've got some news!" Mason shouts as he runs in.

"Well finally! What's happening?!"

"My older brother told me that Cairo has become eligible for the succession due to his engagement."

"You mean to Mikaeyla? But she's a ruined noble?"

"Apparently, her father has traits of light magic due to him being distantly related to an old Saint that died a hundred years ago."

"What's that got to do with anything?"

"It's the law of light. Any royal member who is betrothed to a holder of light automatically joins the line of succession, in order to preserve the most purest bloodline," Ace states, his mouth curling.

"But Mikaeyla isn't a light wielder."

"Apparently, the law includes relatives of light wielders. Mikaeyla in this case is a light carrier. She has the affinity so chances of her children having light powers are higher than most."

"But that's, that can't be- Ace?" I look to him.

"My uncle has truly thought well about this."

"But if what you're saying is true then wouldn't Lily technically be the best candidate for his partner? Where is she?"

"..."

"What? Tell me."

"Lily Margaret has gone missing," Ace replies. I stare in shock.

"Since when?"

"Since a month ago."

"And you didn't tell me?! Both of you?!"

"I wanted to Sylvia but I was told to keep it quiet," Mason excuses.

"And what about you, Ace?! Were you also told to keep it quiet?" I stare at him.

"I was. However, I was planning to tell you."

"When? When you found her?! If she's been missing for a month which may I add is the exact same time Cairo showed up, don't you think I should have been informed?!"

"Sylvia, I-"

"No, just stop. I need to go. My father is expecting me for dinner."

"But Sylvia-" Mason starts.

"No, it's fine. You two just keep talking and scheming and don't tell me. I no longer care. It's not like I'm a part of this group yet so why bother keeping me informed. I understand. Goodbye," I say before storming off.

My head ached as I try to make sense of the situation. Frustratingly, I could no longer use my past knowledge as the events were changed long ago. Now, I'm on my own. But what the hell am I going to do now?

"How about calming down?"

"Nice of you to drop in," I roll my eyes, looking at Luna.

"Don't be so catty, I told you I have other responsibilities aside from being your familiar."

"And besides, we still make time to drop in once every while," Astro pops up. "It seems we've been gone long enough for something to spiral up again. You truly have an eventful life."

"Yep, that's me. Quiet days are a rarity for me. Tell me something Astro, can you track down someone?"

"Hmm, it depends. I can smell magic, so I guess if this person is extremely strong, I could sniff them out."

"Well, I think she's strong. I need you to find Lily Margaret."

"The bothersome church sponsor child who always seems to stir up trouble? I'd sharpen my claws for the chance to get at her face," Luna prowls.

"Is this Lily missing?"

"Apparently. And funnily enough, I was left in the dark by the person who I thought trusted me."

"Life not going well on love island?"

"He kept it from me for a month, Luna. A whole month. Enough time for someone to scheme, rebel, assassinate and overthrow. I don't like Lily, but she is a dangerous factor who is threatening everything I have."

"I understand, it'll take me a while if she's been gone that long. She could be on another continent for all we know, but I'll try."

"Thank you, Astro. I mean it."

"Don't get your hopes up, the mutt is so old his nose is probably stuffed by now," Luna chuckles.

"How about I fight you first before I leave, fluffy?"

"Don't. Call me Fluffy..."

"Make me, Fluffy," he taunts. She pounced on him immediately, both of them transforming into their big beast forms and eventually their human forms. I just walked away, letting them duke it out. I can just heal them later.

Hi guys, I guess you all know what I'm about to say at this point but yes, it's the holidays so I am back to writing. I think I won't be able to go back to frequently updating until like after June where I will be finished in my exams but I will still definitely update when I can!
