Chapter 8: The awkward dinner

There were some new additions to the table. The men I had seen earlier were sitting down too; that also means Carl's friends look-alike.

The cook came out with chicken Alfredo. I began to think of the lie I was going to use when I didn't eat all of it.

"So Lidia, I heard you found our crafts room" a deep voice that could only lead me to one person. "Yes Luke actually I did. Hopefully you don't mind me being in there. You know I can move if you want. Just tell me and I'll do it" I realized I was rambling and stopped. "Sorry for rambling" now everyone was staring. "It's quite alright. No need to apologize" these men confuse me. "Why would you apologize? You were just talking" that came out of an unexpected mouth, Caden. To not answer his question I stuffed my mouth with the pasta.

The boys begun to talk about whatever. I didn't really listen and just focused on eating most of my food.

The food was really good. I'm pretty good at cooking and baking and all that stuff but this is top notch.

Halfway through the meal I started to listen to their conversation when I heard my name. "-Yeah I ran into her on the stairs" I looked up and saw Ian. "Oh really. Lidia are you okay? He didn't hurt you did he?" Zack said. "Of course not. Why would he hurt me?" I quickly got out. Zack hummed.

Caden hadn't said anything besides the words he spoke to me. I started to get worried. What if he's sick? Oh my what if he's sick of me? He probably is. Jesse seemed to see my concern as he told me not-so-secretly, "He just misses Sasha. Don't cha buddy?" Caden perked up at the mention of his girlfriend. "Hey do not talk about her like that! Plus I don't even miss her" Jesse gives him a dead pan look.

The boys start to argue which in turn leads to the other boys picking sides and joining in. I just sit there amazed and thankful that I don't have to eat. Soon amazement turns into worry. Worry that they'll hurt me for not picking a side.

After a minute or two of the fighting Luke decides to speak up.

"Boys that is enough!" We all switch our heads to look at him. "Stop this idiot fighting at once or you'll all be punished!" The dark boy from earlier which I learned his name is Kenzer, says "Um maybe a bad time but me and Kai don't live here so how, and with lots of respect, are you going to punish us?" Luke looked like he wanted to smack the boy. He gave him one look and that shut him up.

I finished my food with half of it still left. To avoid conversation about it I scooted it around to make it look like I ate most of it. Turns out it wasn't good enough because sure enough James saw. "Eat more. That's not enough." My thought process was going a mile a minute. Six seconds later I responded. "Well I mean this is as much as I can eat ya know. Not all of us are big tall teenage boys who have a black whole for a stomach" they seemed to believe it as James looked defeated. "Fine but you have to stay for the rest of the dinner"

Did this bitch really just say that?

I didn't say that out loud because that was one of the rules. I gave a simple okay and got up and put my plate in the sink.

I came back and sat down. For the rest of the dinner I actually listened. Once in a while Luke would glance over at me. He would study me for a while then turn back to his food.

At the end of dinner Luke spoke. "I have what you asked for Curly" well that's new. My strawberry/dirty blonde hair is kind of curly. Mom said it used to look like an Afro when I was a baby so maybe that's where he got it from. I set my gaze upon him. "Oh thank you. Normally I can't sleep without it but with my bed being so comfortable I may not need it" to make it more convincing I added a small laugh. "Do you need help setting it up?" He handed me the box. "No I'm fine. Thank you though." He gave a nod. No fair. If he gets to give nods then why can't I?

"Does this mean I'm dismissed?" "Yes you are Chica, make sure to sleep well" I gave them a smile.

I set it up. I don't know why Luke thought I would need help. It was pretty easy.

Finally, I thought to myself, I can sleep. I laid my exhausted body on the bed and turned the machine on it's highest mode. I closed my eyes and fell asleep within minutes.
