Chapter 21: Sick

Switching to brothers

I woke up today with one goal in mind, asking my brother a question that I so graciously procrastinated.

You might be asking yourself 'what question?' Well you'll find out when I ask him. If I ask him. Why am I asking him?

As soon as I hit the floor a cough ricocheted out of me. Well that was pleasant. Another cough followed after that one. I began to be dizzy and had to sit back down. Oh hell no. I am not about to back out now.

I walked out the door, freezing my toes off. I was literally shivering. Why did they have to keep this darn house so cold?

I sneezed and then, classic me, I ran into someone. "Oh my Girlie. I didn't see you there. You okay?," Sasha chuckled. She saw me shivering and her smile immediately dropped. "Oh baby. Are you feeling okay?," She held up her hand to my forehead. She retracted her hand as soon as it came. "Lidia... you're burning up. You better go lay down. I'll bring you some medicine and we can have a chill day today."

I shook my head. "No-no I'm fine. It's just allergies. I really, really need to ask Luke something. He's in his office right?" I asked her.

"Well yes but Lidia, you need to lay down. You have a bad fever." She protested.

I shook my head once more. "Nope. That'll have to wait. I promise I'll go lay down right after I ask Luke something."

"No Lidia. I'm putting my foot down. You are going to march to that little bed of yours and lie down. I'm going to get some medicine for you." She said, her tone saying that she's done with the conversation.

I huffed but agreed. Well no I didn't agree. It seems like I did but didn't. My steps were heard but I wasn't moving. I looked both ways and sprinted towards where I thought Lukes office was.

As I stood in front of it my head betrayed me and thoughts of chickening out began to leak through my thin wall of sudden confidence. I retreated but then I sneezed. Stupid allergies.

"Lidia I know you're out there. You can come in." Luke's voice boomed through the door.

I grimaced but opened the door nonetheless. I gave a small smile as I walked through the door. I took in my surroundings and saw that Caden, Manny and Kenzer were in the room also. "Uh hey big bro. So uh, I needed to ask a question."

I waited for him to shout and yell at me to go away but that didn't happen and I was surprised to say the least. What he did do instead was say "Ask away."

Well that was easier than I thought. "Oh well I mean to ask you yesterday if my friends could-" I kept hacking up. Cough after cough after cough ricocheted throughout my body.

I looked up and saw something on Luke's face. Was it? No it can't be. Could it possibly be concern? For me? I haven't known Luke and the boys long but I do know that Luke having any emotion on his face was a one in a million- no make that a billion- opportunity.

He got up and walked over to me while Caden stood up, ready to sprint over here, as did Kenzer and Manny. "Lidia? Are you okay?" He asked.

I quickly dismissed my cough with a wave of my hand. "I'm fine. It's just allergies. Anyways I wanted to ask you if my friends could stay the night. It's just a girl and a boy. Well I'm pretty sure the boy is gay- I'm not trying to be that girl but I'm pretty sure is obvious- and so uh, well can they?"

"Lidia. Candice. White." My face paled as I heard my full name. I looked up to Luke and saw him looking down at me. I looked around to see if anyone else would help me. They all shook their heads. My eyes were practically screaming help me. She's gonna kill me! But nooo. No one wants to help little Lidia White.

I turned and smiled toward a very angry Sasha. "Hey Sash. How's your day been?" I nervously giggled.

"How's my day been?" She asked in disbelief. "How's my- how's my day been? Ha oh I can't believe this. You Lidia White are in big trouble missy!" Sasha said in total disbelief.

I latched onto the nearest person and perfect for me, it happened to be Caden. My eyes begged him and as if he had been in this situation before-which he probably had- he said "Hey babe. How's your day been?" He said, trying and failing to save me.

One look of her face shut him up. He mouthed a sorry as he walked away. Ugh. Rude. I bashfully looked up and smiled.

"Lidia. I told you to go to your room and lay in your bed and what did you do? You deliberately disobeyed me. I asked you one thing! One thing! Lidia you are sick for crying out loud and need to be resting." Her speech was enough to make anyone feel bad.

"I know but I really needed to ask Luke something. It couldn't wait! I'm really sorry I disobeyed you. Please forgive me." I apologized.

She smiled softly. "I know honey but you need to rest. If you don't then you can't ever ask him a question again because you'll be too sick to talk." She enveloped me into a hug.

I heard Caden scoff. "That's it?! That's all she gets? Uh Sasha. Hello? I'm your boyfriend and if I did that then my ears would be bleeding!" Caden asked indecorously.

"Oh hush. Caden, for Pete's sake, your twenty-three. Act your age." She scolded him. For once in his life, Caden's mouth was hung open. I was worried a fly would go in there.

"Lidia I suggest you listen to Sasha. And to answer your question, no. And before you protest: 1)  you are sick and 2)  I hardly know them. We will discuss this matter later but for right now, get some rest." Luke answered all my questions and thoughts in the most Luke-way.

I let Sasha walk me to my bedroom and we chilled out on my bed. She gave me a glass of water and a pill.

"Sasha, please. I'm fine. It's just allergies. Seriously." I tried convincing her once more. But trying to convince Sasha something after she's made up her mind is like Ravi trying to lift 100 pound weights. Impossible.

We laid down on my bed and watched movies. Brother Bear of course, and some other movies I haven't heard of.

During the fifth movie I fell asleep. I was woken up by a door opening. "Is she asleep?" A voice said. It took me a minute to process who said it since I was half asleep but I found out it was Zack. I felt a head nodding above me- Sasha's I'm sure- and heard a different voice.

"Good. She needs it." Can you guess who said that? If you guessed Luke, you're correct!

"I need to use the restroom. Can one of you watch her for a minute?" Sasha said.

I personally thought it was going to be Zack who said yes but everybody is wrong once in while. Instead of Zack's sweet, welcoming voice I heard Luke's scary, yet calming voice. "I'll watch her. You go ahead and do what you needed to do Zack."

And with that, me and my eldest brother were alone. He walked over to my bed and sat on it.  The bed dipped so low I almost rolled down it. "You gave me quite a scare Curly," What? Luke scared?, "don't ever do that again and please, for all our sakes, just do what Sasha says." Wow. Never would I have thought that my scariest brother who had control over everyone, beg. And for something as simple as doing what someone says!

I heard my door open once again and felt a long kiss to my forehead. "She still asleep?" A voice called out, my brain succumbing to sleep yet again, by the sound of my brothers calming voice.

"Yes. Yes she is."

And with that I was out.

Okay so know you know what she's been trying to ask! How do you like the dynamic of Sasha? I've also been feeling really sick so that's mainly the inspiration for the chapter.  And also side note: I wouldn't consider this story mature. It has mild language and it will have some blood, suicidal thoughts and actions but I don't think that makes a story mature? Just know that this book IS pg. As always, I hope you like it and don't forget to vote, comment and obviously like :)
