Chapter 13- Closer

*phone ringing*

“Hello?” I said in a raspy voice.

“Hey Riley, are you okay I tried phoning you last night but there was no answer.”

*clears throat* “Wade it’s 6 o’clock, did you have to phone so early?” I whine “Yes I’m fine I er… just left my phone on silent and eventually fell asleep.”

Pssh we both know I was busy kicking some serious ass.*wink wink*

“Okay. Can I pick you up? I mean for breakfast because I’m going to stop at Nadines’ café for pancakes. I mean you’re not forced to com-” He rambles nervously

“Aww that would be lovely, what time should I be ready?”

“We could leave it for- Wait you said you’ll come? *nervous laughing* Uh be ready at 7.” He says

“Okay then I’ll see you in an hour.” I smile to myself

What should I wear? Hmm… a dress, shorts, jumpsuit- wait a minute this is not a date so why am I stressing?

I eventually found denim jeans that’s ripped by the knee, since today will be a bit chilly I’ll use a white long sleeve off shoulder top, paired with white Adidas shoes.

I did my usual routine of using the toilet, brushing my teeth and having a bath. That reminds me I need to go to the salon and try to take this colour out of my hair. If I don’t then it’ll be a quick way for Samantha to mock and laugh at me.

I got dressed and combed my hair into a high ponytail and put on some mascara and highlighter. I still had about 15 minutes so I decided to wait downstairs.

“Good morning angel.” I froze

“Hi.” I muttered

“Missed me?” Fred smirks

“Morning Riley, we arrived last night. I saw you were sleeping so I didn’t want to disturb.” Mom smiles and opened her arms to embrace me in a tight hug.

“O-okay, I’m just going to wait outside.”

“Why? Don’t you want to spend time with your parents?” She asks

“Yes angel?” Fred mocks

“Mom for the last time it’s parent not parents.” I muttered annoyed

“Well you’re wro-“ *car hooting*

“I’m going to school.” I said and left

“Hey, you ready to go?” Wade asks politely

“Hellooos, yeah lets go.”

“You want to play some music?”

“Yeah sure!” I grabbed the aux cord and started blasting Better with you by Austin Mahone

I wasn’t planning on sitting quiet so I started singing. I kept stealing glances at Wade and to my surprise the badboy was singing softly to himself.

“I didn’t know that you know this song.” I said shocked

“I-I since you caught me I might as well tell you.” *he sighs* “My cousin is obsessed over the singer so I’m used to listening to his songs. She even gifted me his CD.” He says rolling his eyes

“Well I find that cute.” I smiled. After playing 1 more song we arrived.

We walked towards the door which Wade had opened for me. We got seated, placed our order and got enveloped in small talk.

“You know I truly was concerned about you because of that incident in class.” He says scratching his head

“I’m so sorry Wade but I wanted to thank you for standing up for me, you didn’t have to so for that I’m grateful.” I put my hand on his fist and smiled.

“Well then I think you should make it up to me and possibly go with me to the movies tonight?” He asks face full of hope

“I shall do whatever it is, to repay you for your kind deed.” I said with a laugh

“Hmm, so I’ll pick you up at 5. It’s a date princess.”  He says with a wink

“OMG I get to go on a date with the famous Wade Smith!” I said face full of shock and began to fan myself

Wade bursts out laughing…

"You truly are something else Miss Mathews." He shakes his head

We had our meals and left, I fought with Wade because I wanted to pay and after 5 minutes of debating I’d lost. We made our way to school and Emmette opened the door for me.

“Morning Ry.” Emmette greeted

“Riiiillllleyyyyyyyy, what are doing with Wade so early in the morning.” Luke questions

“Having a breakfast date.” I smirked. I shit you not Lukes face was priceless. He looked shocked and happy. I expected him to ask if we dating or something but instead…

“You took her for breakfast and didn’t bother bringing me let alone bring me a doggy bag.” He says with a dead serious look. Like I said I realised never to mess with Luke and food.

“If you don’t like the idea of me taking Riley for breakfast then you certainly won’t like the idea of me taking her on a date tonight.” Wade crosses his arms and smirks

No one said a word… well beside Luke *cue mental slap*

“You? Wade Smith h-had the guts to ask Riley on a date?” he asks stupidly

“I think that’s what he meant Lukey boy.” Emmette laughs

“OH MY GOSH Riley let’s go, we got some serious catching up to do.” Jayden squeals

Jayden took off pulling me with him in the process, we collected our textbooks and headed for first period. We seated ourselves and I got ready to be questioned.

“Why was I not informed about this so called date before anyone else?” he accuses with his eyebrow raised

“Because I just found out about it just now?” It came out more like a question.

“Wait, so it’s a date date or a we just friends date?” he questions

“Huh, it’s just a trip to the movies with my FRIEND and we just going to chill. As for the date part he suggested we go tonight since I had a Code 2404 last night and Wade tried calling to check up on me.” I won’t call it a date as yet…

_A code 2404 is the code word for my street fights_

“Ohh, it’s definitely a date date.” He mutters to himself

“Did you say something?” I ask

“Err,how was last nights match?” he asks

“Ace Hunter was the opponent so lets just say he lasted only 5 minutes.” I whispered with a smirk

“Anyways I will come over later to help you get ready.” He winks and I smile.

“You finally got the guts to ask her out hmm.” Luke smirks

“That won’t be necessary but alright.

Honestly I can’t wait for this date. Because everyday unknowingly I fall for her.

Rileys POV

After a long day at school Jayden and I decided to go to my house so I can get ready. We belted out all the wrong lyrics for the songs. We so stupid right?

“Oh hello Jay, it has been a while since I’ve seen you.” Mom hugs him

“Yeah I’ve been a bit busy lately.”

“Well you should pop in more often hmm.” She smiles

We ran upstairs and I locked my door.

Jayden being the great friend/help he is decided to relax and watch Tv. *huffing*

“Should I wear this?”

“Should I use this?” and after 6 more ‘should I use this?’ Jayden wakes his fat butt up to help me.

We selected a cute maroon hoodie with black jeans, my black glasses and maroon Converse shoes.

*wolf whistles* “Dayum you look gorgeous babygirl.” He compliments

“Why thank you my love.” I smiled

I got ready early so I sat in the lounge with Jayden and we spoke for some time before Wade came. He knocked and Jayden answered the door. My heart stated pounding at the exact moment.

“You will not have any physical contact with my baby, nor will you bring her home past her curfew of 11pm. You make her cry and I will chop you in pieces and feed you to lions.” Jayden statesand threatens.

He stood at the door blocking my view of Wade so I had no idea what he’s using. But once Jayden moves

*cue drooling*

“Riley you look so beautiful.” He said awestruck

“Well you’re looking very handsome Mr Smith and look we’re matching.” He smirks

“That we are, so shall we go?” he asks

We arrived at the movie theatre and stood in line to choose a movie. We got to the front and chose an action/comedy movie. Then we got two large popcorns and cokes. Ever since we came I felt like someone has been watching me.

Once the movie was over Wade and I couldn’t stop talking about it. I noticed that during the movie whenever I laughed he looked at me and smiled. But as you know whenever I’m truly happy something bad has to happen.

“Hello angel.” My heart stopped

“And who are you?” Wade questions annoyed

“Riley’s fa-” I cut him off

“He’s my mother’s husband. My dad has died.” I breathed out. Wade saw how tensed I was so he tried pulling me away.

“Don’t be rude little girl. Does your mother know what you’re up to?” He grabs my hand and asks

“How about you leave me alone.” I pulled my hand from his grasp. “Does my mother know you with this girl?” I remarked

“Mind your own business.” He sneers

“Watch your mouth. Don’t think that you can speak to her however you feel like.” Wade fumes

“And who do you think you are boy.” Fred questions pushing his chest out to look intimidating

Honestly looking at Wade right now I’m a bit scared. He looks deadly… do people feel the same way when they see Bellatrix?

“Fred just leave me and my friend alone, carry on with whatever the hell you’re doing.” I pulled Wades hand and walked away.

My heart is pounding so much, I don’t know what to do. Why did Fred have to spoil this day.

Wade saw me panicking and tried calming me down. We sat outside the mall and I tried to breathe, I hate these panic attacks.

“Riley I need you to breathe in and breathe out slowly.” He runs his hand through my hair

After a while I felt better but I feel guilty for not explaining to Wade why I had a panic attack.

“Wade I’m so sorry that our night had to get spoilt, I didn’t mean for this to happen.” I said genuinely

“It’s fine my love, as long as we enjoyed the movie and popcorn.” He winked and smiled

“Wade I know that you’re confused about what just happen but I-I don’t know how to explain it to you. Maybe one day you’d be able to understand.” I whispered

He pulls me into a side hug “Don’t worry Riles. I had a great time so all’s well. I’ll drop you off at home we can skip our meal, you need to go home and relax.” Wade is so concerned it’s not even a joke

“I’m sorry for spoiling our night.” I whispered into his chest

He held me in a hug for a good few minutes

“Let’s stop at Steers, I’ll buy you supper because I know you won’t end up eating when you at home.”

“Wade you don-”

“Well I want to babycakes.” He winks and we go back to the car

Wade bought me supper and we drove home.

“I know this night couldn’t be completed but thank you for this. It truly means a lot to me.” I say sincerely and I did the unexpected…

I kissed Wade on the cheek, jumped out the car and ran inside. I stood in my lounge and peeped through the curtain, Wade’s mouth was agape and he was touching his cheek.

Pssh what was I thinking by doing that!

“Well lover boy left you in one piece hmm.” Fred smirks

I ignore him and walk past him. But unfortunately he grabs my hand and pulls me back.

“What’s your problem! As it is you spoilt my night and now you’re starting with me.” I scream

“Don’t raise your voice at me little girl! Just because you were out gallivanting with that boy it doesn’t mean you must speak like that to me.” he shouts back

“And who the hell do you think you are!” I shout back

“I am your father you brat!” he screams in my face

“You are not my father, you just a sorry excuse of a man who’s using my mother for her money!”

*SLAP* I looked at Fred terrified, he just slapped me and it seems like he's not done. He looks at me with murderous eyes.

“Your mother was right she should’ve sent you to live with your grandparents! At least you wouldn’t be here to curse our lives!”

I run upstairs and lock myself in my room. I scream my guts out into a pillow, by now my pillow was soaked with my tears.

This is why I don’t talk to Fred because every conversation ends up with me getting slapped or something.

The blade on my table was mocking me he wants me to use it but I won’t I’m stronger than this. Compose yourself for heaven sakes you’re Riley Mathews! But I just broke down, I couldn’t handle it.

What’s worse is the pain in my cheek, he slapped me so hard that I’m sure that there would be a 5 finger mark on my face in the morning.

But where was my mom, it’s not like she’d do anything even if she were here.

“Dad I need you come back and take me with you!” I cried

I cried myself to sleep…
