chapter 44 (What's with you..?)

Kate's prov

I locked the door leaning against it slightly... ...managing my heartbeats, which are thumping so loud that I can hear it clearly. I may act normal but damn......today when he asked me on a date....that gave me a mini heart attack.

*phone ringing*

I saw an unknown number on the screen and answered immediately

"Hello....?"

"Hey" he replied and I'm sure he's still outside my door.

"I just called to ask.....that....how are you?"

"Jake....I'm pretty sure you're standing outside and I'm doing exactly as I was doing 30 secs before." I chuckled on the phone.

"Well...it felt like 30 minutes to me and hey I'm not outside your house." He explained.

I swung the door open and yes....he was not there I went outside to see his car because I didn't hear him drive away.....but he left I guess. I walked inside and locked the soor again.

"Kate...?"

"Yes...?"

"You don't trust me.....do you?"

"Why..?"

"Because you just checked if I'm outside or not."

"No....I didn't. I just locked my bedroom maybe that's why you thought..."

"You're lying " he interrupted before I could complete my sentence.

"Okay...yes I did because I was so sure didn't leave but then you did." Disappointment filled my voice.

"Umm....I didn't leave you know. You are right.....but I'm not outside of your house because I'm in your house"

"WHATTT....???" I spuned around so quickly and saw him leaning against the wall smirking at me with his phone.

"Hey babe...missed me..?" He winked at me

I was so shocked....no words came out....I blinked for like a fifty times and then dragged him in my bedroom without a word. I closed the door behind me and took him to the window.

"Jump" I whisper yelled at him

"What?" He was looking at me for any evidence that I'm kidding but no....no...no...no...he has to jump off my window and leave before anyone knows.

"Jump out of the window and don't make any noise okay." I ordered him

" I'd rather jump on your bed sweetie than jumping off your window by breaking all my bones without making any noise" he said in a duh tone and walked past me towards my bed.

"No....no....noooooo....noooo Jake this isn't college okay....this is my house....umm...get out" I half yelled at him but he placed his hand on my mouth for stopping me.

"Shh.....Kate don't panic....I'll leave but calm down....no one's gonna find out unless you stop shouting. No one saw me coming here....I'll leave just calm down and breathe." He looked into my eyes calming me down and removed his hand slowly.

"Okay." I nodded

"I'm sorry......I didn't wanted to freak you out. It's just.....that......umm anyways...I'll just leave." He apologise and turned around.

"Wait" I grabbed his hand

"What.....it's just..? Why you're here?" I asked him. He was still facing the other direction....he slowly turnrd around and more like whispered in a very low tone "it's just I didn't wanted to leave. I wanted to spend some time though....but it's cool...for now I'll just leave. "

I stood there.....really shocked, he's the guy I thought that hated me and now.....I don't know what's going on....or how to react....it's all like a dream maybe it's not real I'm imagining things..

"I know it's wierd for you but Kate you've been on my mind since I first saw you....All this may sound cheesy and unreal....and I.......I..............I should just leave for now" he walked past me quickly and opened the window.

"No....I think everyone's asleep....you can sneak out from the front door." I told him because it's really not a good idea to jump from that window. He might get injure.

"you sure...?"

"YUP"  I confirmed and nodded

"Okay. Good night Kate. See ya" he waved and left.

I changed my clothes and got into bed....today was different it's not the jerk who pranked me always...maybe he's not a bad person after all. I should talk to Anna and figure out what exactly I feel for this guy....as soon as possible.

I woke up on time...got ready really quickly and today is a bit different, I actually got ready by that I meant wearing a nice dress and combed my hair.

Didn't wanted to eat so I took my breakfast with me....before I could get outside Anna bursted in.....ranting every single thing that happened last night.

"Oh my god.....Kate you're not going to believed what happened.....Alex is just so I can't explain it you know.....first Jake called for informing him that I've a thing for beaches but the phone was the speaker...so ya I heard it then he felt embarrassed because he didn't had any plans other than that....I told him it's okay if he dropped me at my house but he's so stubborn he took me to a gaming lounge and we played video games.....seriously ot was fun.....I maean boys usually think thay video games aren't girls thing but he.....he's different he challenged me to it which is nice.....I can't believe there was no awkward conversations no stares no wierd moves...."

"Jake asked me out on a date." I said it out of no where.

She immediately stopped the car....and turned towards me..."Who did...What...?"

I chuckled at her reaction.....I really like when Anna is like this...in fact I like annoying her.

"Oh...Anna Banana forget about me let's hear your part of the story first" I teased her knowing that it will only make her more desperate.

"Then we had ice cream and he dropped me home. End of the story....your turn." She finished her story so fast...which made me laugh but she just glared at me.

"Ya.....you know he asked me out and I said yes.....not a big deal." I preferred sounding normal not excited about it otherwise she might plan my wedding before I can spell her name.

"Okay.......let's see what is it exactly." She took a pause but continued

"You are going to come to my place after college and we'll discuss everything that happened. "

"Oh..Please I don't have time to waste you know. I have plans" I teased her again.

We reached college and to my surprise Alex and Jake were waiting for us there with notebooks in their hand....Jake was having a file too...we're walking towards then looking at their direction......I was so fixated on Jake that I bumped into someone.

"Hey....watch it there kitty." The person was soo familiar....Nick....it has to be he's actually referred as a 'funny guy' in our college...no one's ever seem him serious. he usually have this habit of calling me with different names....just me though.. like kitty....katty...cat...kitten and keeps on adding every other day.

I really don't mind him calling me by a nickname but these names are annoying as hell....but he won't stop . The more I react the more he annoys,  it's better to join him rather than complaining.

"It's not my mistake...Nikky, you know...you're very distracting. I couldn't watch it when you are around" I mocked him and batted my eyes.

"Flirting.....are you pumpkin? " he raised his eyebrows smirking at me.

I shrugged and started walking past him.....when I reached where guys were standing I turned and winked at him....and he just chuckled.

"What was that..?" Jake gave me a piercing look.

"Oh...Jake...is that you getting jealous...?" Anna cleared her throat and asked him jokingly. But he was quite while we got in the class.

"Here's the project.....it's done." I was shocked....he's not even looking at me, while he said that.

"Okay. Thanks. " I tried to make an eye contact but he's not looking at me.....I followed his gaze and found him glaring at Nick.

"Um....he's just a friend." He looked at me but quickly diverted his gaze again.

"I hope he thinks that too. Anyways we're not dating yet, so you don't have to explain me anything." he finished and sat besides me.

That was all....he didn't talked to me after that.....rest of the day was quite. Last lecture was of Mr. Will he told us to wait till class is over, then he'll take our project.

Everyone walked out of the classroom....Jake got up and moved back so that I can make my way to Mr. Will......he looked at the file and said....."Excellent work. You both make a good team I guess after all." He raised hia brows and waited for us to respond.

Jake didn't say anything...so I took that as a clue and thanked him for the appreciation. He walked out of tha class and I turned to Jake.

"What's up with you....?" I folded my arms and waited for him to look at my direction.

"Nothing.....and even if there's anything, you don't have to worry about it." I can hear anger in his tone.

"Does it have anything to do with Nick...? Or the way I talked to him?"

"Talked..." he snorted "Flirting...this is what its called" he stated as a fact.

"So....Anna was right. You're jealous." I stated

"No" he replied facing me....looking directly in my eyes, then continued...."I'm worried" he uttered looking on the floor.

"What are you worried about...?"

"I'm worried that some better guy will come along the way and.....you won't have a reason to remember me. I'm just some guy in your life."

"But you will still be YOU...no matter how great that guy will be, because you will always be the guy who asked me out for the very first time Jake. No one.....no one can change that."

He slowly walked towards me with a smile saying "and I wanna be the last one too."

Then he snaked his arms around my waist "because thinking of you with someone else scares the hell out of me." With that he pulled me into a hug and hold me like his life was dependent on me.
