Chapter 38: The Attack

Cat Eyes: Sirius [Book 1]

Sirius' POV

After everyone left, I thought for a couple of seconds. Maybe I also needed to relax since this situation had me on edge. I looked at my lady, who was approaching.

"What?" she asked.

I got closer and ended up cornering her against the desk.

"You're not sentenced to death. You are not," I assured.

I would make sure of it. She reached around my neck and stroked my hair, calming me down for the moment.

"Don't worry about me. I worry about you." She used the phrase I used to say to her.

I smiled, shaking my head.

"I'll be fine."

It was her who worried me. I never thought I would come to depend on her safety for me to be calm.

She jumped, sitting on the desk, and pulled me in, wrapping her arms around my neck, and my lips brushed hers.

"We'll be fine," she whispered. "Nothing bad is going to happen, okay?"

I kissed her without being able to resist. I devoured her rich lips calmly, feeling every detail. I enjoyed that delicious sensation they caused by moving gently between mine. She smiled at me, and I returned the gesture. She was good, so humble, beautiful, and so sweet. I couldn't imagine a world without her.

I hugged her tightly and then went down to her neck to give her another kiss there, enjoying her soft aroma.

At what moment did she become my entire life?

"I'm so attracted to you," I confessed, taking her silky hair between my fingers. "And you smell so good... I was so moved when I saw you walking next to me, so free, admiring the forest. When I watched your dreams and saw you so peaceful, always feeling safe with me despite what I am, I wondered why I couldn't tell you. Why couldn't I declare you mine somehow?"

"I thought the same about you," she said with an adorable blush on her cheeks, "Why didn't I dare to kiss you? Maybe the fact that you didn't know made me doubt."

"I'd have liked to know about the kisses before. I'd have kissed you without hesitation."

She chuckled.

I sighed, feeling calmer, and dared fiddle with the button on her pajamas. When I looked at her, she smiled mischievously.

"You are so...desirable..."

"Desirable?"

She shook her head as I had already awakened my playful side again. My hands went to her soft breasts. Her breath deepened against my lips, and I moved down her cheek toward her ear.

"I like them. You know? They fascinate me. I would stare at them all day."

"Well, you can do it..."

Her hands touched me, too, and I loved the possessive way in which they did it.

"You're beautiful."

She kissed me, and I felt that the bad situation was finally being pushed aside, at least for now. I felt better and wanted this moment with her to last forever.

"I love you too much," she murmured, "I don't want them to take you away."

"You know I love you too, and they won't, don't worry," I assured. She sighed and relaxed, touching me again. I smiled as I felt the skin of her waist under her pajamas. "You know? I counted the little frecks on your skin. Well..." I let out a very short laugh. "The ones I've managed to see in those moments of wildness."

She laughed, too.

"Since we're alone, you can finish counting them."

"I must let you rest well."

"Hey, I already rested all day like a groundhog," she said, amused, slipping her hands under my pants.

She touched me, and I frowned with sudden pleasure, pressing my forehead to hers, barely huffing through my teeth. My body warmed up right away, tensing in her hands as my clothes fell off. However, it seemed it was already waiting and ready, apparently... Or not. I had no idea about anything anymore.

I smiled sideways and kissed her passionately, although still careful not to hurt her with my canine teeth. She jumped down from the desk and lifted her pajama nightgown, taking it off and revealing her beautiful forms, which I kissed without even waiting for her to get rid of her garment.

He laughed and moaned at the same time from the pure pleasure. In seconds, we stripped away everything and became one.

I made love to her for as long as she wanted, without caring about the three of my kind in the building, who could perhaps hear us. In the end, they would be as confused as I was.

Having her against my body, skin to skin, making her burn and enjoy everything I could give her, made me forget the problematic situation we were in. It made me feel powerful and that nothing and no one would separate me from her.

I kept stroking my lady's soft hair. She was thoughtful.

"Something happens?"

She snuggled against my body, smiling and closing her eyes.

"I see you adapted well to my world; I thought maybe you'd want to stay a little longer after everything is over if we can get people to accept the evolved people."

"Why?"

"Well, you have made friends, especially with the other evolved guys.

I smiled sweetly at her. That was a sweet comment.

"They're not going to stay here for long. They want to get their lives back. But don't worry, if you want, we can stay and go visit."

However, she seemed saddened.

"I'm sorry."

"Why do you apologize?"

"I'd love to go with you to your town, but what if I can't follow all the rules?"

"It's okay. Remember I told you to be yourself," I calmed her. "I don't need or want you to abide by the rules. I love you with all your signs of affection. Take me by the hand, hug me, and even kiss me if that's what you feel like."

She offered me her sweet smile.

"Really?"

"I'll take you to our festivals, even if there aren't many. We can dance together like that night."

"That sounds nice."

I continued caressing her. I understood that she thought a lot about things. That was how she was; she had even told me that herself and I just wanted to support her in everything. If she had the same doubts a thousand times, I would clarify them a thousand times with love and patience.

"We can visit too, or even live here and there for a while." I gently cupped her face. "We can do whatever we want and go wherever we want, okay?" She nodded, and I gave her a short kiss. "I'll always take care of you. I'll not let anyone hurt you."

I shouldn't have let the situation escalate to this. Going to the point of threatening people who were only looking to do things correctly was not honorable at all. I was going to make them listen to me once and for all.

***

A kiss on my lips surprised me, but I immediately smiled and reciprocated when I saw her—my beloved girl, my wife, my world. I pulled away and caressed her abdomen, tickling her and making her chuckle.

I finished getting ready, and Marien stood in front of me with a slight concern on her face. I took her chin and smiled sweetly.

"What's wrong, my beauty?"

She smiled, too.

"Er... I was wondering if you could give me some of your saliva," she said. I raised an eyebrow, and she showed me a small, closed plastic container. "Marcus wants to examine its healing and disinfectant properties."

I laughed and took the bottle.

"It'll be my pleasure."

She smiled even more and kissed me with great passion.

As we entered the dining room for breakfast, the brothers and Acrux looked at us from a nearby table. I could see the unanswered questions on their faces, which made me smile in satisfaction. I made my beautiful wife enjoy a lot, so they probably heard us. I was already expecting those reactions.

...That must have been my face when I asked Marien what was happening that day in that hotel...

We sat together with Rosy, although Max was also there.

"This is what we'll do," he told me as soon as I picked up the fork. "We'll leave the strange girl while you go and threaten the governor."

"What?" Marien interrupted. "What are you talking about?"

"By the way, talk to her," Max continued.

I tightened my lips. It was time to convince Symphony that she should leave now.

I went to her room, and she greeted me with her usual smile, but she stopped when she saw me serious this time.

"I don't want to leave yet," she said.

"Symphony..."

"I don't want to know that you got into another problem. You don't know how I felt when I found out about your betrayal."

"Well, you don't have to worry anymore. I'm fine, don't you see? You should go home. Think about your parents."

"You have no idea," she interrupted with a weak murmur. "I...I always..." Her eyes flickered to my ring, and she sighed. "You're my friend. That's why I worry about you."

I was a little confused by her attitude, but at least she elaborated.

"I care about you, too," I said. "And that's why you have to go back. My life is here, and yours is there with your family."

"I heard you will do some type of mission after you leave me in the forest."

"It's none of your business."

"Yes, it is. I already made it clear," she challenged, but apparently, her little courage disappeared, and she lowered her eyes. "By the way, I feel better enough to be able to go with you downstairs." She got out of bed.

I snorted and guided her.

As we approached the dining room, she took my arm, like she used to do when we were in our town, but this time, my body repelled her. We got to the table, and she let go of me, much to my relief, but Marien had seen her.

Oh... I felt I had just made a mistake.

"I want to go with you to that mission," Symphony announced once she had sat down." Wow, I taught her to be more assertive, but I didn't think it would be that much, "Then, you can leave me at the exit. I just want to ensure Sirius doesn't get into any more trouble."

Max rolled his eyes and continued eating, ignoring her. After a few minutes, they finished, and everyone left except us and Marien.

"What are you going to do?" my girl whispered.

"I'll talk to that governor of yours," I stated.

"I'll go with you."

I looked at her with concern.

"I don't want to risk you."

"I'll go with you whether you want it or not," she insisted, "I will follow you wherever you go. Besides, I must know what happened to my parents."

"If something happens to you because of me, I won't be able to bear it," I said in a bitter tone.

"And if something happens to you, I won't be able to bear it either." Her voice weakened.

No, my sweet Marien, don't think like that.

"I want to go back to my room," Symphony interrupted, "but I'm also going with you."

I sighed heavily, stood up, announcing I wouldn't take long, and left. Symphony clung to my arm as she walked, but this time I moved away.

"I didn't like it when you interrupted my conversation with her," I reprimanded her seriously, "and do me the favor of not holding on to my arm."

"How can you tell me that? I am your friend."

"And she is my partner. Even if it sounds strange to you."

Symphony stopped for a few seconds and then caught up with me again with her head slightly lowered. We got to her room, and she came in without speaking, making me react.

"Sorry. I think I was a little rude..."

"No." She lay down on her bed, turning her back to me. "Go with her now."

She told me precisely the same thing when she found out Ursa would join me.

I tightened my lips and withdrew. It was okay. I couldn't do anything about it. I didn't mean to hurt her, just establish some boundaries, but maybe it wasn't possible to do that without offending her.

I went to the training ground looking for the others and saw Marien talking to Rosy. She motioned to her, and Marien turned to look at me.

She was smiling, and I loved that, but suddenly, she got thoughtful, looking down and covering her mouth. I got worried.

I got to her side and caressed her face. She looked up.

"All good?" I asked.

She took a deep breath and nodded with a beautiful, sweet smile. I couldn't help but be confused by that. She took me by surprise by leaning up and kissing me.

"I just forgot to take something, but I'll do it in a bit."

Something? It wasn't that serious; otherwise, I would know since she was very expressive. I could ask her for the details later. Max warned that it was almost time to go, so I hurried.

***

I took the usual weapons with sedatives, and although some men suggested that we should take bullets, it didn't seem so right to me. If we were beings capable of speaking, I didn't understand why killing each other had to be necessary.

My sweet Marien returned, and they gave her a helmet, just in case. I still disagreed; I didn't want her to take risks, but I couldn't stop her, so I would protect her.

We got into the trucks and left. First, we would leave Symphony, even though she was still reluctant, and then we would talk to the governor. That was the plan.

We arrived at the building where we rescued Symphony and the others. Max said the place had been abandoned for now due to the damage. The National Security chiefs were looking for those responsible in the other facilities. Luckily, ours was a new facility.

As we got out of the truck, Symphony turned to me.

"Aren't you coming with me?" she asked. "I mean, come with me for a few days..."

"You know I can't."

To our surprise, the building door was half open. We entered slowly, and I detected something, so I stopped Marien.

"There's someone here," I warned. Max motioned for me to continue, but I resisted. "There are several humans and also evolved men. I thought there would be no one."

"We'll get closer anyway," he insisted, "I want to see what they're doing here."

I pressed my lips and tried to keep my lady behind me. I didn't want those evolved men to be thrown against her. I became very alert as we continued to one of the larger rooms.

We meet a middle-aged man in a suit with gray hair. I had seen him on the news, the governor. He was with other men and two helmeted evolved men. They turned to see us.

"Do you have the authorization to be here?" asked one of the men.

"Of course," Max spoke, "We wanted to have the opportunity to talk to the governor if you don't mind."

"Not now, we're busy."

I growled, and my kind, under his control, did too, which scared the men.

The governor saw Marien.

"I know your face, young lady."

I turned to see her, too.

"Probably," she replied. "I was the last to agree to join the toxin research team."

"Yes, that one. Miss Ramos. Your thesis on toxins won an award, and it even appeared in the science section of the news."

"Yes, well, nobody reads that section."

"We did. You said you only needed the right toxin, and we gave it to you, but you've been causing some problems lately..." The men approached, so I placed myself partially between them, letting them know I protected her. "I want to ask you to stop causing trouble personally. Believe me, having an evolved man on your side will not help you," he added, glancing at me.

"No, I want you to please understand. You shouldn't use the toxin; it will kill us all. The evolved people are not the problem."

"Oh, they are."

"No, we caused the problem by attacking them."

The men laughed silently, confusing me. Were they not taking her seriously, or what?

"The poor woman is crazy..." one muttered, and I growled at him, scaring him.

"If I remember correctly, your parents died because of some evolved people," the governor attacked.

I got worried and saw Marien, noticing his words had affected her. How could that man be so rude?

"I know," she murmured in a weak voice. "That's what I wanted to ask you about, too."

"I'm intrigued, young lady."

"I want to know where their bodies are. I know they are not where they should be."

"How would I know that?"

"You should know!"

But the man ignored her and put on a mocking expression. One of his henchmen stepped forward and began to speak.

"You are under arrest for illegally breaking into government facilities and promoting chaos. Now, please, the evolved men must surrender."

What? Was nothing she had said valid for them?

At that moment, the scent of many more of my kind cooled my blood. A door opened, and they entered.

Oh no. No, no, no...

"Young lady," the governor added, "you did not want to agree to participate in the investigation at first. Your presence was essential due to your knowledge. On the other hand, your parents threatened to divulge what was happening, that's why that accident happened, so you agreed to investigate, and they were out of the way. Two birds with one stone."

I was surprised again.

"What?!" She was distraught now, and that hurt me.

"Our evolved men initiated the attack... Ah, wait." He took a few steps closer. "Did you believe they could be alive? Don't fantasize."

I knit my eyebrows together in distress and looked at my Marien. Tears flooded her eyes. I wanted to hug and hold her, but she reacted.

"How dare you!" She shouted, trying to give the man a push.

That's when, in a millisecond, I saw the man raise his hand to hit her, and I lunged at him. We slammed into the ground as I growled savagely at him. The guy was scared, and I was about to continue my attack, but I was separated from him after a few seconds by the controlled EH.

"Don't you dare touch her!" I threatened him as they held me tightly. I continued growling like a mad dog.

The man stood up from the ground and dusted off his suit. He was terrified, shaking like a dirty rat, but hid it.

"Arrest them," he ordered, "and kill the EH."

One of his evolved men grabbed Marien's arm, and my breath hitched, triggering my inner beast and starting a fight.
