Chapter 108
The Luna’s Choice by Kat Silver
Chapter 108: Theo My heart broke as I watched my mate walk away from me, knowing she was breaking inside. But I had to address the crowd that had gathered.
âAyla Garner is my fated mate,â I announced. âAs your future Alpha, that sacred bond to me is all you need to show her loyalty and respect. I owe you no other explanation. But if any of you doubt her right to be your Luna, I have proof of the lies that Kylee Garner spread within our pack. Now, go.â
Everyone dispersed, returning to whatever they were doing before. Everyone except Jimmy, who I called to me.
âMake sure Kylee leaves the city,â I ordered. âI donât want her within fifty miles of Ayla or me.â
âMy pleasure,â Jimmy said with satisfied smirk.
I put a hand on his shoulder before he left. âDid you hear the rumors?â
âOh, I heard âem,â he confirmed. âAfter what I saw the day of the attack, thereâs no way in hell anyone could convince me that woman is the same person in those rumors.â He pointed toward Aylaâs apartment. âNot a single, sane wolf present that day would.â
âGood,â I said. âIf you hear any more talk or any discontent...â
âDonât worry, Alpha,â Jimmy said. âWeâll make sure they see the error of their ways long before you need to step in.â
I squeezed his shoulder in gratitude.

âI will, Jimmy,â I said with a smile. âI definitely will.â
I went back to Aylaâs apartment but didnât see her there. I searched the place and found her on the bathroom floor, sitting against the tub, head in her hands. I knelt down before her, running my hands down her legs.
âBaby,â I said gently.
âI canât do it, Theo,â Ayla whispered.
âCanât do what, honey?â
âI canât be your Luna,â she choked out.
My heart stopped. âDonât say that, Ayla. Youâre the only one who can be my Luna.â
She shook her head. âNo, I canât. No matter what I do, no matter what choice I make, I hurt people. I canât be responsible for that. I canât take it anymore.â
âShhh.â I changed positions, pulling my mate onto my lap. âYou couldnât be more wrong, baby.â
âI chose Kylee â I hurt you. I chose Kingston â I hurt him because I didnât belong. I chose you I hurt Kylee,â Ayla explained. âThe pack would never accept me with a track record like that.â
I laughed at her words.
âTheo,â she scolded.
âIâm sorry, babe,â I said. âBut itâs hard to see it that way when Jimmy is 18.94%
Chapter 108. Theo 288 Vouchers gleefully escorting Kylee out of the city as we speak because he wonât tolerate someone hurting you.â
âWhat?â She sat up to look at me. âNo, thatâs not what it is. Jimmy barely knows me.â
âAyla, when we got to the packhouse the day of the explosion, what did you do?â I asked.
âWhat does that...â
âWhat did you do?â I interrupted her.
âI helped make sure everyone had made it out,â she said.
âYou figured out how to know who was there, organized the check-ins, and kept everything from breaking out in chaos,â I corrected her. âThat alone was enough to find out that Annabelle was missing. Then to rush inside and save her...â I made her look at me. âThatâs the choices a Luna makes. You chose to do those things even when youâre family was in trouble. You chose to trust me to keep Mina safe, so you could keep my pack our pack â safe.â
â
âThatâs different,â she insisted, her brow furrowing. âThatâs what anyone would do.â
âKylee didnât,â I argued. âWhen the library was on fire, she couldnât even be bothered to show up.â
She still had doubt in her eyes as she looked at me.
âBaby, you didnât hurt Kylee by choosing me,â I insisted. âKylee hurt herself. But you made me the happiest wolf in the world when you chose me. Doesnât that count for something?â
She melted against me, a wave of defeat washing through our 35.76%
Chapter 108 Theo 288 Vouchers connection.
âBut I canât be more important,â she whispered. âIâm not worth risking everyone else for.â
I sighed, holding her close.
âDo you want to know the hardest lesson my father taught me?â I asked. âI was sixteen. My friends and I were being st**id teenagers, and there was an accident. My friend was trapped and it didnât look good. Help was seconds away, but I didnât wait. I went in to save him. I got him out, but I nearly lost a leg in the process. Had I not gone in, we would have had time. They could have gotten him out safer. It was dumb luck that I got us both out intact.â
Ayla shifted, turning her head so I knew she was listening. I brushed my fingers through her hair as I spoke.
âDad was furious,â I continued. âWhen I argued with him, he said I had to start thinking like a leader. A leader must understand how important they are. Again, I argued, saying we werenât more important than our pack. He said I was wrong. We werenât more valuable than our pack. The importance of a role doesnât determine the value of the person holding it. A leader keeps everything running, makes our society work, keeps our fighters on task. Without an Alpha, wolves donât thrive. So, when we fill that leadership position, we are more important than the rest. Because we are protecting the value of our pack. If we fall, they fall. That is our value.â
I rested my head on Aylaâs.
âYou always put everyone else first, Ayla,â I said gently. âYou see the worth of everyone around you without question. You will do whatever is necessary to protect that. Thatâs what makes you so important to me as an Alpha. I need you more because they need you.â
Chapter 108 Theo 288 Vouchers She was quiet for a long time. She finally took a deep breath and sat up.
âWhat if I make a mistake?â
âLook who youâre talking to, babe,â I laughed. âI made the biggest mistake I could possibly make. You do whatever you can to make up for it and accept whatever consequences are left. Youâll learn to recognize those tough choices and I know youâll do whatâs right. No one expects you to be perfect, sweetheart. They just want you to be you.â
She snorted. âThey donât know me. Iâm pretty boring.â
âNow thatâs a bald-faced lie,â I teased. âYou are anything but boring, my little mate.â I pressed my lips to hers. âSo, is this a good time to tell you that our secret is out?â
She laughed. âI think I figured that out. Iâm sure everyone is talking about the she-wolf who stole her sisterâs mate.â
âNo, theyâre talking about their Alpha finding his fated mate,â I corrected. âI made the announcement in the hall. I didnât want any more rumors to take root in this pack.â
âHow do you think theyâre taking the news?â she asked nervously.
âWell, Jimmy was happy as a clam. I know that much,â I chuckled. âI guess running into a burning building made quite the impression on him. Even if I did tear him a new one for letting it happen.â
âHa, ha,â she mocked. âWhat about everyone else?â
âWell, thereâs one way to find out...â
