Chapter 142
The Luna’s Choice by Kat Silver
Chapter 142: Theo It was a short flight back. I was surprised to see my parents waiting for us when we landed. Both of them ended up in tears as they hugged Ayla, grateful she was safe. I donât think Mom let go of Aylaâs hand the entire ride back to the packhouse.
My father updated me on the pack business I missed while I was gone, but other than that, he was pretty quiet. I could tell he was struggling with Harryâs betrayal and treatment of Ayla. I would have to spend some extra time with him soon. I wouldnât let this be what breaks him after everything heâs been through.
It was late afternoon when we arrived back at the packhouse. I hoped we could slip in without much fuss, but I knew that was wishful thinking. The moment we stepped inside, a slew of people were waiting for us. Annabelle practically threw her daughter into her mateâ s arms and rushed to embrace Ayla.
âThank the goddess, youâre okay,â she said, squeezing her so hard I worried sheâd break a rib.
âAnnabelle,â Ayla gasped with a smile, âI still need to breathe.â
âOh, sorry,â Annabelle said, jumping back. âIâm just so glad to see you back.â
A big frame moved quickly past me, and now Jimmy had her swept up in a bear hug.
âOkay, big guy,â Ayla chuckled, patting him on the back. âIâm all good.â

âLuna, can you wait at least a month or two before you give me a heart attack?â Jimmy said. âI donât think Iâll make it through another.â
Ayla smiled. âI promise to do my best.â
Jimmy turned to me, pulling me into an embrace as well.
âIâm glad you got her back, Alpha.â
âMe, too,â I said, clapping his back. âBut Iâve got a job for you that will help us keep it that way. Talk about it tomorrow?â
He nodded. âIâll be there.â
My mother wrangled everyone and got them on their way, leaving me to take Ayla to our apartment. We made it up to our wing when Mom caught up with us.
âTheo,â Mom said, âAyla, I have something to show you.â
We followed as she headed toward the Alphaâs suite. I didnât know what she had up her sleeve, but I prayed it wouldnât be too overwhelming for Ayla. Mom stopped before she opened the door.
âIâve been so worried,â she said, grabbing Aylaâs hand. âI just couldnât keep still but I felt so helpless. So, when your furniture came in early, I couldnât help myself. I knew everything would be okay.â
âJ She opened the door and ushered us in. I heard Ayla gasp as she stepped inside the door. My mother had fully decorated the suite for us. I thought it looked really nice, and there was something familiar about it.
âYou can change anything you want, of course,â Mom rushed. âI tried 21.73%

Ayla turned around and threw her arms around my mother. I released a slow breath.
âItâs perfect, Grace,â Ayla said, âI love it. Thank you.â
1 grinned as my mother teared up.
âWell, you havenât seen everything yet,â she replied. âCome. Let me give you the tour.â
I hung back as they went to check out the rest of the apartment, I sat down in a recliner in the living room. I rested my head back and closed my eyes. The place didnât feel like home just yet. It was still missing Aylaâs scent. What lingered from her wasnât enough. But I could imagine what it would be like when that time came. I got a pretty nice glimpse when I felt her slide onto my lap.
âDo you hate it?â she asked teasingly, lying on my chest. âYou hate it all, donât you?â
I chuckled. âNo, babe,â I replied, holding her to me. âIt looks great.â
âEverything okay?â
My fingers started playing with her hair, letting the softness relax me like it always did.
âIâm just thinking about everything that needs to be done,â I admitted.
âDidnât you just get onto me about that this morning?â she admonished.
I laughed. âYeah, I suppose I did,â I conceded. âI just want to be with 44.94%

Aylaâs lips touched mine, pushing firmly against me as she held me.
âI love you, too. No one is taking me anywhere, babe,â she insisted. âAnd Iâm not going anywhere without you.â
âGood,â I said. âBecause this is what I want for the rest of my life.â
We lay together like that for a while. As I replayed everything from the past week for the hundredth time, my mind kept drifting back to my father.
âIâm worried about Dad.â I said softly.
âI know,â Ayla replied. âMe, too. I canât imagine how hard Harryâs betrayal was for him.â
âIt had taken a lot to convince him not to come with us to rescue you,â I told her. âWe practically had to sedate him before we left.
But I knew if he went, heâd shift. His wolf isnât stable enough to handle killing his own Beta or watching his son do it, either. There was no way to predict what would happen. Let alone the damage it would do to his body.â
âWe should spend some extra time with him,â Ayla stated. âI think seeing us together will help.â
I smiled against her hair. âYeah,â I said. âHe needs something to be hopeful about.â
Ayla shifted, looking up at me. âThat reminds me,â she said. âI was supposed to talk to you about something.â
âOh, yeah?â

âYeah, Dad had asked you to do something,â I replied.
âIt was our last session for the book,â she explained. âI asked him if there was anything he wanted to do with his last years.â
âAnd?â
âHe said he wanted to hold his grandchildren.â
I froze. My heart beating a mile a minute in my chest.
âI told him Iâd have to talk to...â
I grabbed her face and pulled her to me, my lips crashing into hers. I kissed her deeply and with everything I had.
âMore than anything, baby,â I rasped out. âI want pups with you more than anything.â
