Chapter 148
The Luna’s Choice by Kat Silver
Chapter 148: Briggs I had the maps laid out on the bed of my truck. I was studying them when Pierce pulled into the empty lot. I could tell he wasnât happy to be here, but that made two of us.
âWhat is all this about, Briggs?â he asked.
âYour Alpha really likes pushing his luck, doesnât he?â
Pierce sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. âHeâs been known to. What did he do now?â
âYou tell me,â I demanded, pointing at the maps before me. âKingston insisted on coming with us because he knew the best way to get to Ayla. But donât think that was the case.
âJ âOf course it was,â Pierce said. âHe may not know the right way to show it, but Kingston loves Ayla.â
âThen why did he risk her life?â I yelled.
âYou donât know what youâre...â
âHe was looking for something, Pierce,â I insisted, waving a map at him. âAnd I think he found it.â
âHold on,â he said. âYouâre not making any sense, Briggs. Calm down and explain.â
I took a deep breath. Pierce may have been blindly loyal to Kingston, but he wasnât hiding anything.
âWe found these among Harryâs things,â I informed him. âTheyâre maps 0.00%

Pierce looked over the drawings.
âOkay, sure,â he said. âIâd say thatâs what it looks like. Why do you think this has to do with Kingston?â
âThe guide markers,â I said. âThis is the marker we were following.â I pointed to the symbol I remembered clearly. âHereâs where we entered the main building to get to Ayla. If these are accurate, then there were two other ways that would have gotten us there faster.â
Pierceâs brow furrowed as he examined my findings.
âThat could have just been the only way he remembered,â he argued.
âHe was pretty insisted that he knew his way around,â I retorted. âAnd I believe him.â
Pierce pushed his hand through his hair.
âOr it was hubris.â He was grasping at straws.
âYour Alpha endangered my Luna,â I growled.
âHe knew I was with Theo. He knew weâd find her,â Pierce ranted. âI wonât believe he would risk letting anything happen to Ayla.â
âThat ba**ard nearly raped her,â I bellowed.
Pierce grimaced. âI know.â
âAnd had we not split up, had Theo not trusted his instincts, you never would have made it in time,â I spat. âSo donât you f**king tell me he wouldnât let anything happen to her. Because he very nearly did. Now, 20.16%

âI donât know,â Pierce yelled back.
He walked away, his shoulders tense as he clenched his fists.
âI donât know what the hell is going on with Kingston anymore,â he admitted. âHe doesnât confide anything in me. Everything is so secretive with him. But even before, he never talked about his life before Sablemane. Only about the ba**ards who killed his family. But this is not Kingston. Itâs like heâs lost his da*n mind.â
Knowing what I did about Alpha Hardenâs suspicion about Aylaâs effect on unmated Alphas, I suspected that was more true then he réalized. He hadnât just been around Ayla the longest. They had had a relationship.
âWe may have something to help with that,â I said sympathetically.
âYeah, Iâm sure fixing Kingstonâs psychosis is right up your alley,â Pierce snapped.
âJust trust me, man,â I insisted. âBut something else is going on, and I can almost guarantee it has to do with Ayla. And Kingston has lost all my trust when it comes to her.â
âWhy do you think he found anything?â he asked.
âWe got separated,â I stated. âHe made it seem like another trap, but it definitely wasnât one Harry set. A wall closed up. That was a built-in security system. A very old one. It still could have been an accident, but I donât think it was. I think he did it on purpose so he could retrieve whatever it was he was there for.â
âOkay,â he conceded. âIâll see what I can get out of him. This whole 43.94%

That was a dangerous thing to admit. But it was why I still trusted him. Our packs had been allies for generations. It would be devastating for both if that changed.
âI donât either,â I agreed. âWhich is why I havenât told Theo or Ayla about this. We may need Kingston before the end of this, and if Theo knew...â
âHeâd kill Kin on sight,â Pierce finished. âYeah, I get it. Honestly, I canât say Iâd blame him anymore. But Iâd still try to stop him.â
âAnd I get that,â I replied. âBut thatâs why we need to get to the bottom of this. Before Kingston does something else stu*id.â
I started rolling up the maps to head out.
âWe may need to plan a trip back to those tunnels,â Pierce said hesitantly.
I really didnât want to ever go back down there, but I had already considered that it may be necessary.
âYeah,â I conceded. âBut weâd need to at least bring Randy or Alpha Cooper into it. Iâd rather keep this between us until we have a better idea of what weâre dealing with. Alpha Harden and Alpha Cooper arenâ t particularly impressed with Kingston right now, either. So, if Cooper or Randy reach out to him, I suggest you encourage him to play nice. I have a feeling they have more reach than they care to admit.â
Pierce nodded. âIâll keep that in mind.â
He headed back to his car.
