Chapter 166
The Luna’s Choice by Kat Silver
10.39 D Chapter 14: Theo âWhatâs going on, Briggs?â I asked as I got to my office.
âWe had another attack at the border,â he told me.
My stomach fell. âWhere?â
âBonnerville,â he said.
âRogues again?â
He nodded.
âHow bad? Were there any casualties?â I asked apprehensively.
âOne dead. Five in critical condition.â
âDo we have any information about the attack that could tell us why it happened?â
âThey have a couple rogues in custody, but theyâre not talking. They need someone with more authority than they have down there. We have to go down, Theo,â he said. âThey canât handle this on their own.â
âYour mating ceremony is in three days, Briggs. Youâre not going anywhere.â I sighed. âBut youâre right. Iâll go,â I greed.
âYouâll have to take Jimmy,â Briggs said, running a hand through his hair âMaggieâs not ready to take over Aylaâs security detail just yet,â I said. âSo I need him with her at the campus.â

10.39 D I ran my hands over my face. This was the third rogue attack along our border in two weeks. It was unheard of. We hadnât had a rogue attack in decades. I had sent a few teams of warriors down to bolster the patrols, but it obviously hadnât deterred them.
Something was going on and I needed to go down there to get to the bottom of it.
But I didnât want to leave Ayla.
âYou canât go down there alone, man,â Briggs said.
âIâll take William,â I said. âHeâs been wanting to get out of the city for a while now anyway.â
âDidnât they just have their fourth kid?â Briggs asked.
âFourth and fifth,â I corrected. âIt was another set of twins.â
âDamn,â he said, shaking his head with a grin. âYou think heâs the best option? Heâs been out of the game for a while.â
âHeâs my only option right now,â I said.
âYou could bring your dad,â he said.
âNo, heâs still not up for that.â
âAlright,â he conceded. âDo you want me to reach out to him?â
âNo, I will,â I told him. âIâll need you to keep an eye on things here.â
âYou okay, Theo?â
âNo,â I said honestly. âI lost a pack member, Briggs. I have rogues coming into my territory and no idea why. And now I have to leave Ayla. Itâs hard enough with us being marked less than two weeks, but with her still in danger...â

10:39 D âWe wonât let anything happen to her, bro,â Briggs said. âAnd you need to be at the ceremony as much as I do this weekend. So youâll only be gone a couple days. Just get down there and figure out what happened and get back.â
Briggs left my office to go take care of my travel arrangements. I picked up my phone and dialed Williamâs number.
âYou better be calling to tell me what the hell has been happening in that packhouse,â his voice came over the phone.
âIf you came to visit more often, you would already know,â I chided.
Willam was my second cousin and a good guy. He was a couple of years older than me, but we spent a lot of time together growing up. For years, I was torn between having him or Briggs as my Beta. But he met his mate two days after his eighteenth birthday, and they quickly started a family. So, when it came time to make an official decision, he had no hard feelings when I chose Briggs.
But he would always be a ranking member. And with his Alpha blood, he could help with any questioning we had to do.
âJust wait until you have five kids to wrangle,â he told me.
âIâd have to talk my mate into giving me that many first,â I joked. âHow are Beth and the kids doing?â
âThe kids are great,â he said. âLoud and healthy. But speaking of your mate, Beth is pissed she hasnât met her yet.â
âI can remedy that,â I said. âBut, unfortunately, thatâs not why I called.â
âWhatâs up, cuz?â
âI need your help. Weâve had some attacks along our southern border.

10:39 D Rogues,â I told him. âI need to go down to Bonnerville for a couple of days. Things are a bit crazy here. I canât take Briggs or Jimmy with me.â
âWhen do you want to leave?â Will said.
I breathed an internal sigh of relief.
âI need a few hours,â I said. âI need to get everything situated here and figure out a way to break the news to Ayla.â
âYou donât think sheâll take it well?â he asked curiously.
âSheâll likely take it better than Beth,â I teased.
âSheâs got both sets of grandparents, plus her sister, close by,â Will stated confidently. âHonestly, she may thank you for getting me out of her hair for a while.â
I chuckled. âYou guys were planning on coming to Briggsâ mating ceremony already. So she could always bring them here. Iâm sure my mother would have a field day with them.â
âShe may just do that,â he replied. âBut let me let you go. Iâll have to get work situated before I can go get packed up. Just let me know when you want me to meet you.â
âWill do,â I said. âAnd thanks, Will.â
âYou got it, Alpha.â
We hung up, and I sent Ayla a message to come home right after she got out of class. I knew she would understand and be supportive, but I still hated it. I had just had a conversation with her that morning about making time for each other. Now I had to go out of town for a few days.
