Chapter 17
The Luna’s Choice by Kat Silver
Chapter 17: Theo I hadnât heard from Briggs in four days, so when I saw his name on my phone screen, I was eager to answer.
âBriggs, did you find anything?â
âI found her car,â he replied, his tone serious and uneasy. âItâs at a junk yard in Sablemane territory. It looks like you were right about the accident.â
I hadnât felt any pain from her since that first night. But I still felt the burning of our broken bond, so I knew she had to be alive somewhere. At least, I hoped thatâs what it meant. I didnâ t know what Iâd feel if she was...
âSo she has to be somewhere close by,â I said.
âShe would have to be. I doubt she walked away from this on her own. Especially if your assessment of her injuries were correct.â He got quiet for a moment. âThereâs a lot of blood here, Theo. If she canât heal, she wonât be in great shape for a while.
Iâm going to check the local hospital and see what I can find out. But theyâll sense that sheâs a rogue any day now. I donât know what theyâll do with that.â
âDid you find anything else?â I could tell he was holding back with me, and I wanted to know what he was thinking.
âI went by her house. Youâre going to need to tell Kylee and Marie soon. Theyâll want to go home.â
âWhy?â

Chapter 17: Theo 288 Vouchers âHonestly, Theo, Iâm not inclined to tell you,â he snapped. âIâll make sure sheâs alive and safe. And thatâs so you can give her family something other than she disappeared.â
âBriggs,â I growled. His response may have been fair, but I was his Alpha.
âHow are things going with Kylee?â he said tightly.
âFine,â I said through gritted teeth. They werenât fine. At least not on my side. Kylee still didnât seem to have a clue anything was going on. I knew that was a good thing, but it was also annoying the heck out of me.
âGood. So youâre not having any doubts or second thoughts?â
âNo. Nothing has changed,â I replied, wondering where he was going with this.
âOkay. Just wanted to make sure youâre not planning on making me drag Ayla back.â
I sighed. âI just want to know that sheâs alive, Briggs. That sheâ s safe.â
âOkay,â Briggs said calmly. âIâm just trying to look out for you, man. This is some serious shit youâre messing with.â
âI know,â I said. âBut I donât want to know just for Kylee. I told Dad Ayla severed her ties. He felt the loss but wasnât able to identify who it was. It hit him pretty hard. I think it would help him if he knew she was okay.â
âWell, Iâll do my best,â Briggs said. âBut Iâm not going to guarantee what I find.â
âUnderstood.â
Chapter 17: Theo 288 Vouchers As I hung up the phone, the door to my office burst open. I growled and shot to my feet as Zeff charged through the door.
âWhat did you say to her?â he demanded. âWhere is she?â
âShe left you four days ago, and youâre just now looking for her?â I snarled, not about to put up with this jackass.
âI havenât stopped searching for her,â he yelled. âIâve looked everywhere. Her phone is off. Her carâs gone. She even took...â
He stopped himself before finishing his sentence, but my interest was piqued.
âWhat did she take?â
âLike I would tell you,â he spat. âAll that matters is she would never take it unless she planned on never coming back. So what did you do to her?â
âShe did it to herself.â
His face paled. âWhat did she do?â
I didnât have to tell him anything. This asshole tried to take Ayla for himself.
The thought sobered me a little. He cared about her. That much was obvious. And in truth, he hadnât done a damn thing wrong.
But I had. I had made enough mistakes in how I treated my people this week.
I sank into my chair with a sigh, bringing my hand to my forehead.
âShe cut her ties,â I said. âSheâs a rogue now.â

Chapter 17: Theo âShe would never do that.â
288 Vouchers âBut she did,â I replied. âBeta Briggs is out looking for her to ensure she is safe. When I know something, I will let you know.â
âYouâre a fool, you know,â Zeff told me. âIâve known that family for a long time. Kylee doesnât have half the strength Ayla does. At least now, when someone else is smart enough to see that, you have no power to keep them from her.â
I was about to tell him to watch his mouth, but he was already storming out of my office. Slamming the door behind him.
Kieran was stomping around in my head. He didnât want anyone touching Ayla. Or Dasha. If she ever came back.
My mother had made a comment similar to Zeffâs in passing. She had said she hoped Ayla would find some peace and a life where she wouldnât have to carry so much. I wanted to know what she meant by it, but I figured it was about her acting out when she was younger because she didnât handle her fatherâs death well. In truth, part of me was scared to ask. I didnât know why, and it wasnât helping the nagging in my head, other than Kieran, that is, that there was more that I needed to know.
