Chapter 17

The Alpha's Angel

"Stay here, I will return shortly," he said.

He turned towards the large box with images. And changed it to cartoons he called it. Then he locked away the thing he calls a remote.

He turned towards her once more and said again.

"Don't move. And do NOT touch anything."

With those last words, he turned towards the door and left.

With a sigh she lay side ways on the bed and watched the yellow square laugh and talk. Her interest and attention with the show was short. She slowly stood and went to the door and locked it.

She turned and walked to the window. Her head rose up to the sky. The sunny day was calm and beautiful. Then she wondered...What they were doing? She missed them. Did they miss her?

She slowly closed her eyes; wishing she could communicate with them. But it was forbidden.

Nostalgic and sad, she stepped back and gently sat on the floor. She removed her top and covered her self as she flexed her shoulders. Then, she let her wings expand.

It was a comforting feeling to sit there with the sun's warmth on her feathers. She lowered herself then on her back and stretched her wings as far as they could reach. With a relaxing sigh; shaking off the melancholy that had cast a heavy weight over her, she closed her eyes and enjoyed her moment of tranquility.

She had lost track of how long she had been laying there until the rough tap on the door suddenly woke her. With a start she sat up and turned to look at the door. The tap came once more. She quickly folded her wings away and stood slowly placing her bra back on and her shirt.

"One ...moment," she fumbled with her shirt as she placed it on wrong and tried to fix it.

The knock came again until she finally  unlocked the door and pulled it open to face three sets of eyes.

"Hey skank, what are you doing?" Miranda stepped forward resting her hands on her hips staring at her. She stumbled back a bit; staring at the tall girl.

Hannah frowned. "Skank? "

She saw the other girls snicker and laugh.  "That is not my name. It is Hannah," she said softly.

"Yeah whatever...Blah blah, What are you doing?" she looked at Hannah.

Fidgeting, Hannah turned to point to the television. "I am watching the yellow talking square man."

Rolling her eyes, Miranda exchanged a look with her two friends. "Why don't you come spend some time with us in the forest? you know, get to know each other?"

Warily Hannah held her gaze. "I was told to stay here," she told the three of them.

"Don't worry you're with us," Miranda insisted.

She ignored the feelings slowly emanating from the three girls. It was a mixture of confusions she did not understand.  She honestly wanted to leave the room.

"Are you sure I can? Maddox will not get angry?" she asked Miranda.

"Of course not," She assured her.

Satisfied with her words of assurance, she smiled and followed the girls out. They talked briefly.  More them then Miranda. The walk was invigorating and long, she noticed. She desperately wished to spread her wings and fly.

"So Hannah, you are the Alpha's mate?" one of the girls asked.

Shyly Hannah averted her gaze and gave a timid smile,"I believe so," she said stepping over a branch and following them as they went deeper and deeper into the woods.

"He hasn't claimed you, yet?" The other asked. Abruptly they stopped and she looked up and noticed a large lake in the distance.

"Claim?" Hannah looked at each of them that now faced her.

"Yeah' Claim," Miranda crossed her arms before her. Her demeanor strange. Hannah looked at her then. Her smile. gone. her gaze .... upset. That emotion uneased her.

"Is this claim you speak of...bad?" Hannah asked.

"For you...Yeah. You aren't strong enough to be Luna," Miranda's lips thinned.

"Luna?" Hannah whispered sadly. Confused by the waves of emotions brushing her from the three girls. they were not happy.

"Why do you say that?" she felt taken back by Miranda's harsh tone.

"It's just the truth," she clipped.

Weary and bothered by Miranda's change of character, she lowered her gaze. "I want to return now," she could feel the stinging sensation of tears in her eyes.

Miranda shrugged her shoulder coldly. "Fine walk back yourself, we are heading somewhere else."

With those words the three of them turned away and walked off and left her alone.

Overwhelmed and feeling the urge to cry she slumped to the ground filled with sadness. She did not know why Miranda said such things.

Hannah had sat there for what felt like an eternity until she heard a branch snap and and leaves ruffle in the distance. She turned slightly. Curious as to where the noise was coming from, she dashed away her tears and slowly stood.

"Hello?" she croaked.

Nothing.

"Miranda is that you?" she stepped closer.

The leaves rustled some more.

"Hello?" she said once more now shaking with fear.

A sudden growl was heard through the bushes nearby.  She stood still and watched glowing eyes focus on her. She stepped back. Then slowly a large brown wolf stepped forward with sharp white teeth glistening with saliva as he growled.

She screamed.

She tripped over a small log and tried to scoot away, Her large tears welled up in her eyes preventing her from seeing clearly as she scooted further back.

So entranced by the wolf before her, she never saw the one behind her until it leaped fully into the air above her and landed on all paws before her eyes. Breathless and in shock she watched a larger Black wolf confront the other. He stepped forward, then turned to look at her. Everything from the wolf's posture to his penetrating amber gaze screamed dominance. Those stunning amber eyes blazed like a tip of a flame. They held her captive. She could not look away.

His growl shook her to her core and sent her heart racing; it was forceful enough to be felt on the ground.  Hannah was so frightened she could do nothing but stay still and watch the black wolf before he lunged forward to block the other from attacking her. The black wolf was lithe, quick and ferocious. By the time the black wolf lunged for the other, they clashed inches away from her; filling the air with snarls and growls. She never felt or had time to protest as  large arms circled her waist to lift her off the ground away from the fighting wolves. She was taken home immediately.

*********

"Get her out of here. NOW," Maddox mindlinked with Brody as he stood with Nikki and watched Maddox confront the other wolf.

Maddox stalked him. He lowered to a crouch . Teeth bared and preparing to spring forward.

Careful. Wolf. Maddox's voice rumbled the warning through his mindlink to other wolf. Don't make me hurt you. But it did nothing as the stubborn wold shook his head.

"Maddox, he isn't a rogue."  Nikki's voice told him in a mindlink.

"Yeah, well he better back the hell down before I kill him like he is one," Maddox warned.

The two of the wolves faced eachother snarling, circling eachother waiting for the moment to attack. The brown wolf in snarling defiance, shook off Maddox's alpha growl that was demanding his submission.

In no time as the brown wolf aimed for the attack, Maddox jumped forward taking him down in one swift swipe of his paws and clamping his large jaw around the wolfs throat.

"Maddox!" Nikki gasped as he was ready to end the wolf's life. He whined an whimpered in his hold as the shadow of something appeared at his side. Another wolf, almost equal in size as he, stood beside the downed wolf as he let him go out of pity and stepped back with another ferocious growl. But the other wolf lowered his head, then he shimmered into human form in a crouched position.

Lifting his gaze to Maddox, he held nothing but sadness in his eyes.

Hesitating, Maddox followed and the two slowly stood facing eachother. The man before him looked at the defeated wolf on the floor with a disappointing angry gaze before turning to face Maddox once more.

"Forgive him for the disrespect, Alpha Maddox," he said.

Maddox's scowling gaze landed on the wolf then on the man at his side.

"My name is Gregory. I am Alpha Jacobs son of the Redridge Pack , and this is Tyson our Betas nephew." he pointed to the brown wolf. "He is the younger brother of the wolf found dead here a couple of days ago." Gregory said.

Maddox picked up on the mans saddened tone. He watched as the brown wolf transformed into a young male, practically a pup who could be not but in his teens. Tyson stood at Gregory's side with his head lowered. His anger gone, was replaced with scent of pure grief and regret.

Slowly Maddox stepped forward and faced the pup with a sympathetic gaze. "I'm sorry for what happened to your brother." he paused then turned a stern gaze towards Gregory. "I still can't ignore the fact that he nearly attacked my mate," Maddox clenched his jaw.

Flustered, Tyson's red rimmed eyes lifted to Maddox. "I'm sorry..I...I didn't know. She did not have the scent...," he trailed off tightening his lips shut as Gregory leveled a warning gaze at him.

"Yes, I am aware my mate is not a wolf," Maddox rumbled defensively between clenched teeth.

"Forgive him, please don't be offended. I apologize if he was out of line.  We had no idea he came this way until our Beta mentioned he was gone," Maddox fixed a stony gaze with Gregory before giving him a quick nod.

He watched Tyson turn away like a pup with his tail between his legs as Gregory stepped forward and apologized again for all the trouble Tyson had caused. "I am sure my father will have a sit down with him. He won't be too happy about this."

They had spoken for some time until he reminded them of the pack meeting with all the packs in surrounding area. Again Gregory apologized then left.

The whole time Hannah was on the back of Maddox's  mind.  He felt relieved when they left because he was anxious to get to her. Anxious to get to her to shake her until her little head popped off for terrifying him within an inch of his life.

In a matter of minutes he was stomping up the back porch into the house when the wave of her scent hit him head on. It was a scent that had Koda on edge. He stormed in through the backdoor and made his way towards the livingroom where some of the pack members lounged around in silence. His dark furious gaze landed directly on Miranda first.

"I want you gone from this pack," growled ferousciously.

With a gasp she bolted out of the chair. "Wha.."

"I said. NOW." he yelled. His gaze followed her as she stormed off.

"As a matter of fact, I want all of you out." he shouted.

"Except for you," his gaze landed on the mop of shiny curls of his mate.

He stared at her for a long moment as everyone filed out quickly leaving them alone. He stepped closer to her. There was no denying that invisible pull between them.  Especially now that she looked so vulnerable. The heat of her seeped into his bones, threatening to melt his anger into molten desire. But he fought through it and mustered up the strength to stand firm.

"Do you realize what happened today?" he said harshly. "I specifically told you to not go anywhere, Hannah." Her body trembled as she looked up at him. "And you disobeyed me."

"I didn't mean to," she swallowed, blinking back tears.  "I just wanted to get out of the room. I wanted..." she stopped.  I wanted to fly.  She wanted to say.

""What....You wanted to what, Hannah?" he stepped closer to her, entranced by the large limpid gaze of her honey brown eyes that seemed to pull him into their endless sweet depth.

He gently raised his fingers and glided them around her nape and pulled her closer until she was pressed along the length of him. "Why do you close yourself off?" he asked. "What is it your hiding?" He searched her gaze for answers that weren't there.

Overwhelmed with his penetrating gaze, she looked away.

"I am not hiding anything," she choked out. Tears filled her eyes as she tried to pull away. But he held her fast and pulled her against him. He whispered an apology pressing his lips to her forehead. He pulled back then, and looked down at her. Large, brown, impossibly alluring- trusting innocent eyes looked back at him. He fought down the urge to take her right where they stood.

"Hannah?" his voice heavy and hoarse with desire. It sent a shiver up her spine.

"Yes, Maddox," hearing her whisper his name with that sweet voice had him electrified.

He swallowed trying to concentrate and focus on  what he was about to say. "When I say don't go anywhere. I mean it," he said. "Do you understand?"

She nibbled on her bottom lip and gave a gentle nod.

"Good," he whispered.

Possess her.

Seduce her.

Cherish her. Koda urged.

A single beat later, as his heart roared in his ears,  he lowered his lips to hers and devoured them.  It was a primal rough need that would only be sated with the sweetness of her lips.

............For now.
