Chapter 7

(Brandon's look when he sees Alex the night of the engagement ;)

Alexandra's POV

"This is none of your business." I snatched the letter from his hands.

"Alexa don't hide it ."

"What do you want?" He glared at me but dropped the topic.

"Mom is waiting for you. You have to go buy a gown . Be ready in 10 minutes." He then left. How rude. It's okay Alex just a few months. I took a deep breath and changed my gown into a more comfortable one.

"Alex?"

"Hey mom."

"Hey honey. What's wrong you don't seem happy."

"It's nothing. I'm fine." I put a fake smile on my face.

"I know the letter is from Johnny. Is it the reason why you're not happy."

"Yes. And no."

"Aw baby you know he's not the one for you. He remembered his promises and dreams after you left. He even declined being in a relationship with you remember?"

"Yes mom I remember."

"Mom! Johnny is coming!"

"Okay honey have fun. But don't forget your horse riding lessons. Did you finish your other lessons with professor Smith?"

"Yes mom." I reread the letter in my hands for the 5th time. He said he was coming today to visit me.

"Lady Alexandra." The butler told me that Johnny was here.

"Hey Johnny." We sat in the kitchen where the chefs were preparing the dinner. I loved the aroma of food .

"Johnny."

"Yes?"

"Since we have so many dreams together-"

"Had ." He corrected me .

"Right. But we still hav feelings for each other. Why don't we have a relationship between us."

"I can't Alex. I'm sorry."

"But-"

"I have to go."

"Stay for dinner."

"I can't Alex. I'll see you in the town cafe with Angela tomorrow. Don't forget our meeting." He said exiting the kitchen.

"Okay." I whispered.

End of flashback.

"Ugh don't remind me. Plus we were 15. I think we were still not mature enough. "

"You're 17 . You didn't mature that much yet."

"I'm getting engaged. So I think I'm pretty mature now."

"Then why did the letter bother you?"

"It didn't. I just miss my friends that's all."

"Come on Lea's waiting for you."

"You'll look gorgeous in this red dress." Lea said . We've been in this gown shop for 2 hours trying to find a color that might compliment my face.

"Yes this is it."

"You look amazing."

"Thank you Anna." I smiled. I really looked pretty. I hope nothing goes wrong.

"My brother is such a lucky guy." Anna winked at me. I laughed and changed back to my gown.

1 week later

"Alex! Are you ready?"

"One second mom!"

It was finally the engagement day. Everyone were so happy and joyful. They were decorating the castle , the gardens and the ballroom. All the kingdom is invited to the royal engagement. Until now I couldn't believe that those people coming tonight think that I'll be the next queen. Brandon and I had made a scenario about how we will break the engagement after a few months. Until then we must look like a happy couple that fell in love. Well I was a good actress so it wasn't so bad. Until it come to the kiss tonight after the announcement. It will be so awkward between Brandon and I. I didn't see Brandon since 2 days because he was always in town checking on the people there .

"ALEX! Wow you look beautiful." The twins came running into my room. They looked adorable.

"Awe you both look amazing."

"Thank you. Mommy wants you now!" Bella giggled .

"Is Brandon ready?"

"Yes he's waiting with mommy outside. It's nearly the time for you to go down."

I exited the room and saw mom and Brandon at the top of the stairs with their backs towards me. I coughed and they both turned around.

"Final- wow ." My mom was shocked. Yeah I'm your daughter not an alien. I looked at Brandon and he was looking intensely at me. His gaze burned me . His eyes traveled from my head to my toes eyeing me carefully. Mom said something to him, but we were too busy to hear her.

"Erm love birds. We're late." We snapped out of our trance and I walked slowly until I was standing next to them. Brandon extended his hand not breaking our eye contact. I put my hand in his and we stepped on the stairs, mom following us with the twins.

"Okay children I will go with the twins while you have your dramatic entrance." She left and I felt a hot gaze on me. Brandon had his eyes fixated on me .

"Let's go." I nudged him.

"Huh? Oh yeah. Louis open the gates." The trumpets started playing and we heard cheering and clapping.

"His highness prince Brandon Alexander Chaucer son of king Ace and queen Lea Chaucer, with Lady Alexandra Maria Marlowe daughter of duke Jake and lady Regina Marlowe." They all bowed . We were standing at the top of the stairs looking at the people in front of us. Well as expected, the girls were sending daggers to me but I couldn't care less.

"People of Emerland. Welcome. You are gathered here today to witness the engagement of my son Brandon Alexander Chaucer and my dear friend's daughter Alexandra Maria Marlowe." Uncle Ace announced . He was wearing the royal suite with a crown over his head. He was standing confidently with no emotions visible on his face. I remember my mom would tell me stories about how uncle Ace was a cold hearted beast. I knew that Brandon was cold hearted , but I don't know if he's a beast or not.

"Alexa."

"Yes?"

"They are waiting for the kiss." I totally forgot about it. I really wasn't ready to give my first kiss like this. I leant towards Brandon but before our lips could touch he bent me and kissed my cheek. For the people present here it seemed like a real kiss, but to us , it's just a kiss on the cheek.

"Thank you." I said. He nodded and led me towards our seats.

"No Brandon don't do this!" We turned to the entry of the ballroom from where came a feminine scream.
