Would you believe me if I said that despite my murderous thoughts towards Dylan Rush and trying to overcome the dilemma of which of his sports car best suited as a murder weapon, my heart still skipped a beat when he said those words? Would you believe me that for a moment, a slight nano of a moment I felt like I was the girl he was bringing home to meet his family? And would you believe me if I said that even tough I glared at the jerk-faced liar, I still couldn't help but admire his jawline and the way his hair was impeccably swept up in a messy way?
Or maybe you would believe that this was just a side effect of that little heart to heart moment in the mall where he confessed something he considered embarrassing?
Yes! The last one was the most plausible reasoning.
"Alex," Mrs Rush smiled as she looked at me. "Nice to see you again. I apologize for the mishap in our last get-together."
The get-together that had me running out of here?
I shook my head. "No, I should apologize. I shouldn't have left the way I do. It was totally rude and disrespectful. I should have explained properly."
"It's actually my fault, mom." Dylan intervened as he wrapped his arms around my shoulders and pulled me tightly against him. "I asked Alex to not tell anyone about us. She must have totally freaked out by the meeting."
I could tell Mrs Rush believed him when she nodded and then looked at me with glee. "Oh, darling. It's okay. Now, come in. The whole family's here for lunch." She turned and walked in, expecting us to follow.
Dylan started to do so whilst I stood there unsure of what to do. When noticing I wasnt close behind him, Dylan turned around and arched his brow. "Come in! You don't want to be rude, now do you?"
I glared at him as anger steamed from my very being. If I was one thing, it would be respectful to my elders, even if they contributed to the existence of this asshole. It didn't matter that they were his family, I couldn't disrespect them again after what happened last time, especially to Mrs Laurent, who had always been nice to me.
"Lead the way, asshole," I gritted through my teeth as I nodded at him to enter the house.
As soon as we entered the living room, I regretted ever thinking of respecting anyone.
Everyone was here. His parents, Mrs Laurent, Lucas, Marie and Tyler.
"Alex, darling!" Mrs Laurent exclaimed as she got up from her seat and rushed off, pulling me into a tight hug. "I'm sorry we put you on the spot last time you were over."
"It's okay, Mrs Laurent. Really." I smiled to reassure her before I looked over at the person who had saved me.
Tyler was the only one not smiling at us. Instead he looked disinterested in the situation. Then his eyes to my hands. Only then did I notice that my hands were now tightly interlocked with Dylan's. When did the jerk grab hold of my hand?
I turned and glared at Dylan. He squeezed my hands tightly, before leaning in and whispering, "Smile babe. They're not going to believe we're dating if you look at me like that."
Who the hell said we were dating?
"You know it's rude if you keep on standing while the rest of us are sitting down," Tyler said.
"Yes, cousin," Dylan replied, his eyes held amusement. "But, there's no seat for us to sit at."
Everyone including me looked at the crazy person he was. There was an armchair next to Mrs Laurent and a spot between Tyler and Lucas.
Mrs Laurent smiled, as understanding dawned her her faster than it did us. "You want a seat for you and her then?"
He nodded as he smiled like a proud boy.
I glared at him. "I'll sit next to Mrs Laurent." I moved towards where she was now sitting.
"Nonsense," Dylan pulled me back to his side. "We're dating so you're sitting next to me."
The words 'we're dating' in the same sentence made me cringe. Did he suffer a head trauma on our drive here? Or maybe his ego had gotten to big for his head that it's deterred his sense of thinking?
"Tyler, you go sot next to Gran." He smiled innocuously at his cousin.
"Why should I? I came here first." Tyler argued.
"I'll go." I volunteered, making towards the seat next to Mrs Laurent.
"No," Dylan pulled me back to his side. "Stop doing that."
"You stop doing that." I snapped. "I want to sit. My legs hurt from walking around."
"Tyler, move."
"No."
"Are you guys having that time of the month?" Lucas interrupts. "Geesh! I'll move." He got up and sat next to Mrs Laurent, whose eyes are on the two idiots arguing over a seat.
"Come babe," Dylan said as he pulled me to the couch.
I sat between them, hoping they wouldn't try to murder the other.
"So, Alex, how long have you known Gregory?" Mrs Rush asked.
"Uhm.." I paused unsure of what to say. "A month?"
"A month?" She looked shocked. "Really?"
I nodded.
"And how long have the two of you been dating?"
I was just about to explain how her son was having a crazy delusion and how we should check him into the nearest psych ward when said son squeezes my thigh hard.
"Two weeks," he lied easily. I guess acting was useful sometimes.
"Oh!" Mrs Rush smiled wide. "I guess when you know, you know, right?"
Dylan smiled as he nodded. Then he looked at me, "When you find her, you just... know."
Damn, he was so good at acting!
"So, Alex, what do you think of the whole making a movie process?" Mr Rush asked. "I don't really know. I know numbers, so acting... I don't really get it. What do you think about it?"
"I... Think it's all about being patient and determined. You have to get up at odd hours, work all day and then sleep for an hour at most." I paused, thinking of my lack of sleep. "But, at the end, I think it's worth it."
"How so?"
"You know at the end of the day, that all that hard work and fatigue pays off, because you have a part of your life documented, and on film for future generations to see. Plus, that movie could bring out emotions in a person. They'd laugh with you or at you. They'll feel your pain and understand you. I think making a movie and going through all of that hardship and retakes is an experience in itself."
Mr Rush nodded along, smiling. "You're a keeper, darling. A real keeper. " he looked at Dylan and nodded approvingly.
I felt guilty. He was approving a fake relationship.
"I know," Dylan whispered so low I thought I misheard him.
"What did you say?" I asked.
"I said, good job, Hunt."
Then the family thankfully discussed other things, leaving me to nodding along and listening.
"It's fake, right?" Tyler leaned in and asked.
I jumped slightly at his nearness. "What?" I whispered back.
"You and Dylan. It's fake, right?"
I nodded. "I think he's lost it."
"Yes. I think so too. He hasn't been this interested since Steph."
I looked at him, confused. "Steph?"
He nodded. "The girl he stole from me," he answered slowly before he pulled away and joined the conversation everyone was having.
What? What did he mean steal from him? Did Dylan steal Tyler's girlfriend?
I needed answers. And I knew the perfect place to find it.
"Can I use the bathroom please?" I whispered to Dylan softly.
He nodded, before giving me the directions.
As soon as I found it, I locked myself inside, and pulled out my phone before logging into the grail of information.
Google.
Tyler O'Brien and Steph.
Pictures of Tyler and a gorgeous blonde showed up.
I clicked on the first one.
Tyler O'Brien and Stephanie Gryers at the Galaxy Awards Ceremony 2013.
I clicked on another.
Tyler O'Brien and Stephanie Gryers at the Golden Oaks Charity Ball 2012.
A news article shows up.
O'Brien and Gryers Split! Love Affair?
Golden couple Tyler O'Brien and Stephanie Gryers was confirmed to have split up on Tuesday after the Diamond Charity function held for the cancer patients. An insider, close to the couple said that they'd been having problems lately since the premiere of Highway to You. The insider Laos commented that the root to their breakup could have been heartthrob Dylan Rush, Tyler's cousin.
So he did break then up!
I opened another tab and typed searched up Dylan Rush and Stephanie Gryers.
A couple of pictures popped up of them holding hands.
So he did steal her!
Spoilt, woman-stealing ass!
I stomped into the living room and forced on a smile.
"Excuse me please, but I'm needed back at the set," I said to Mr Rush.
"Are you sure you can't stay for some roast turkey?" he asked.
I nodded. "They need me right away."
"Okay then. Nice seeing you again, young lady."
"Thanks for having me around. I... enjoyed myself. Bye," I rushed out of the house as fast as I can. But then someone pulled me back just as I got out of the main door.
I turned around, hatred filling me as I stared at Dylan.
"Are you okay?" Dylan asked, his brows hooded over his eyes, making him looked worried.
I tugged my hand out of his grip. "Stop doing that or you're going to lose your family jewels, Dylan." I moved to walk out of the house. He pulled me back again, his fingers so tight around my arm that I suspected it would leave a mark behind.
"Let me go, Dylan!" I gritted out with my back towards him. I didn't care that everyone could hear my voice.
He didn't seem undeterred by my anger. He kept his fingers around my arm, turning me around to face him. "Are you okay? You rushed out of there like you'd seen a ghost."
I glared at him as I asked the question I'd been wondering since minutes ago. "Why'd you do it?"
"Why'd I do what?" He looked confused.
"Why'd you steal your cousin's girlfriend?"
Disbelief clouded his face as soon as I said it. Then understanding, sadness then anger. "How'd you know about that?"
"Tyler told me," I answered without thinking. "You're a jerk!" I shrugged off his fingers before taking a step back.
"What did he tell you?"
"He just said something about Steph. How could you?"
"You don't understand," he began. "I was helping him out."
"Helping him out?" I chuckled dryly in disbelief. "By stealing his girlfriend? Your definition of helping a person out is seriously messed up, Gregory."
This time he didn't react to me using that name. "You don't know the whole story, Hunt!" He raised his voice this time, and I could hear the silence in the house.
"I know that he was dating her and that you stole her. That's all I need to know. Speaking of which, when the hell did I decide I'd date you?"
"We went on a date before coming here, hence, we're dating."
I looked at him, shocked, waiting for his signature smirk to come on. But he didn't. He actually looked serious. "What? No!" I scoffed, confused. "That wasn't a date!"
"Then what do you call it?" He stepped closer, leaning in. "Hanging out with each other for the whole day, shopping, telling secrets to one another they wouldn't normally tell people. I think that are all major components of a date."
"That was our pathetic attempt at trying to be civil towards one another, Gregory." I was back to Gregory. What was he doing? What was he saying?
"I told you to stop calling me Gregory, Alex!"
"And I need you to stop trying to toy with me!"
He stared me down, before leaning in even more, his body closely touching mine. My face flushed red and grew warmer than before. I could feel his body somewhat enveloping me. "And why would you think I'm playing games with you?" He asked, his eyes boring into mine.
"We hate each other!" I exploded. "All we've done since we met is argue and hate each other."
"I didn't hate you!" He snapped. "I just thought you were a stalker, that's all. What was I to think? We met each other too many times for it to be a coincidence."
"A stalker?" I burst out laughing. "Fine, but even after that you still hated me. So, I'm sorry if I don't believe you when you say you want to date me. Especially after Stephanie."
"Stephanie was nothing!"
"You stole her from your cousin and now you call her nothing?"
"You're just so frustrating!" He screamed.
"And you're a pathetic excuse for a human being! I've already had enough heartbreak to last me a lifetime, Mr Rush! So I hope you'll understand me not taking a chance on a third one." I paused. I'd just revealed that I'd gotten hurt two times. Hopefully he didn't notice that. "I'm leaving. Tell your family a believable lie. That's all you seem to be good at."
"Just because your asshole of an ex cheated on you, doesn't mean I will," he said.
"But there is a high possibility. Besides, I'm over that." I walked down the steps.
"Then is this about your father abandoning you?" The words hung in the air for a while, lingering.
I turned around. "What did you say?"
"I know about Flynn and you," he said. "When he found out you were shooting a movie with me he asked for me to introduce the two of you."
I stared at him, shocked. "What do you mean? Did you already know Flynn was my dad before the dinner?"
He nodded. "I just wanted to give you guys a chance to get to know one another."
I walked back towards him, stopping just two feet away before slapping his cheek hard. "He lost his chance at a relationship with me when he asked my mother to abort me!" Tears started falling. "And you have no right. No right to think you can just waltz in and fix everything. This isn't one of your movies, Dylan. It's real life and news flash! Not everyone gets a happy ending!"
His cheek started to redden. "I know it's not a movie, Alex! But I'm trying to help an old man correct a stupid decision he made when he was a young man!"
"He doesn't get a seconds chance. Not after he did what he did." I wiped away the tears. "He asked my mother to kill me! Kill me! How can I forget all about that?"
"He already explained to me what happened, Alex! His parents were threatening to disown him!"
"And that just makes it alright to kill me off, eh?"
"No," he shook his head, moving to place a hand on my shoulder. I slap his hand away. "It doesn't. But he was a scared young boy that didn't know what to do with a child."
"Whatever his pathetic excuse maybe, Dylan. I won't hear it."
"You're being unreasonable here, Alex!"
"Me? Unreasonable? Oh sorry Mr Perfect Life, but not all of us has parents that didn't abandon them. So I'm sorry if me not wanting to meet my asshole of a biological father makes me unreasonable. I'd rather remain unreasonable than even try to form a relationship with that scum of a human."
I turned to leave.
"You're just being a coward, Alex! First with me and now with your father!" He yelled.
"You know after what happened today at the mall, I thought that maybe you weren't a heartless carbon copy of my father, but then again, I was wrong. You are every inch him." I turned around. "Other than our scenes, don't even dare approach me!" And with that I walked away.
