1. Nada and Fahad
Together Anyhow | √ |
N A D A' SÂ P O V
"FAHAD!?" I screamed out at top of my voice.
"Nada. . . I know you are a witch but please, for once, have some mercy on my poor ears and stop shouting!" Fahad told me. Actually scolded me!
"Whom did you dare call a witch?!"
"Of course you." He said nonchalantly as if he had uttered nothing wrong from his good for nothing mouth. Pagal. (Stupid)
"Okay guys, calm down!" Uméma groaned, totally fed up from our conversation. Uméma is actually Fahad's sister, so she decided to join.
Ugh. . . Why? Why did Almira force me to go home with this prick. It was Mira and Rahim's Valima (reception), finally, so it was quite late and both of them forced me to go with this idiot at home because it's unsafe to go alone at this ungodly hour. It was better if I had walked home rather than sitting inside a car whose engine is blowing smoke out as if it is smoking a real cigarette.
"YOU STUPID TAKE ME HOME RIGHTNOW!" I hollered at him out of frustration. What stupidity is this?! I am tired already!
"EVEN I ALSO WANT TO GO HOME. I DONT FANCY BEING IN YOUR COMPANY!"
"THEN DRIVE THE CAR!"
"YOU IDIOT, CANT YOU SEE THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH IT?!"
"You and your car. Both are utterly useless." I muttered to myself.
"First of all let's not shout. And why are you acting as if you are a queen-" He was going to say something when I cut him off.
"Dude! Correction I am the Queen." I chimed in as I flipped my hair a bit for a little more effect. Yes, I am a little bit extra. But extra is the extravagant, valuable.
"Do not interrupt when I am talking." He uttered with his same boring face.
"Why? You think that you are a king of some place?"
"I don't think that it is important for me to answer you." He answered me rudely. What is his problem?!
"Ugh. . . Shut up and mend the car!" I crowed in anger and laid my head against the dashboard.
"I know it's late. It's quarter past one already."
Oh God! It's 1:15 am already? I really wanna sleep. And I guess I really did that because I was being shaken by Uméma who was continuously calling my name.
"What?" I responded groggily when suddenly pain shoot in my neck. Ouch.
"I can't find any solution to it. And there's no garage near. I guess we need to walk till the way to our homes. Anyway we just live one block apart from each other. It's not much of a big deal." Fahad explained with his stern face.
"That's it. That's the end. We are going to die. Allah is giving us punishment. We always shout and be angry at each other. And anger is haraam (prohibited). Oh God, I am not even married yet. I will die single and-" I was cut off when Fahad started to butt in.
"Shut your rambling! You were send with me so that I drop you at your home safely and how much ever hate you, I will not let anything happen to any lady who is under my care and there is Uméma also with you. So get out of the car and trust me or sit here, if you want to, I don't care." He barked, glaring at me. His words did calm me down. A bit. And even though we loathe each other I know he will do nothing wrong. I can . . . trust him.
I got out of the car and while I was checking that I have taken my phone or not this majesty decided to open their mouth.
"I am not even married yet. Idiot." He mimicked my voice, might I add that he exaggerated it. A lot.
I gasped and realised that what all I rambled. Me and my mouth! Always puts me in trouble.
"Shut up okay. I don't want to die single. I mean who would want to?" I ranted with a surprised face.
"I don't mind being single throughout my life. Everything's difficulty level increases thrice than already it is once you are committed." Someone like him, boring as a Maths lecture, would think in this way.
"That means that you are just afraid of taking responsibilities?" I asked him bewildered. I don't understand him. And his mood swings.
"If I hadn't taken any responsibilities then I wouldn't have succeeded so much." He countered back and moved forward. Ooh, look at his attitude as big as Mt. Everest. I need to melt this snow down.
"Guys calm down, it's past midnight and we have to reach home too." Uméma cried in between.
"Hey, don't leave me in the dark alone." I panted trying to catch up with him. Boy, he walks fast or my stamina is very less? The former one is the problem here.
"Why? You are scared of it?" He scoffed, giving me a look.
"Yes." I answered truthfully. I mean what's the shame in hiding? Everybody has fears and mine is darkness and loosing people I love.
"Fine come on." He grumbled as we started walking.
"Do you even know where you are walking?" I implored.
"Yes. You don't even know that it's the way to our houses?!"
"Arey the lights are flickering what am I to do if I can't see in the dark?" I sassed him. "Ugh! Fahad you stepped on my foot!" I hissed at him.
"Listen even I can't see much in the dark, even with my phone's flashlight. What shall I do now? Become an owl?" He gritted his teeth at me.
"Ullu ke patthe toh pehle se hi ho aur kya banonge." I snorted on my own choice of words. (You are already foolish enough what more foolish you could be.)
(Ullu ke/ka pattha generally is used to call someone foolish/crazy in South Asian countries namely India, Pakistan etc.)
Uméma too released a laugh upon hearing my remark.
"I am ignoring that remark."
"Commit it bravely that you are at loss of comebacks."
"I am here just to drop you at your home safely, not to start a vendetta." He spoke agitatedly. Huh, what does he think of himself?
Now we were proceeding towards our home.
"Fahad. . . Why are the streetlights flickering?" I whispered to him.
"I know right." Uméma whispered, totally scared.
"Nada and Uméma! You should stop watching movies. You both are being paranoids now." He scolded me and I heard something strange. And that sound increased making both of us' eyes go wide.
"You both are being paranoids." I mimicked his voice. "Idiot something is definitely wrong. But when will you listen to me?! Your ego will get crushed, right? If you listen to me once."
"Yes, this Fahad, never listens!" Uméma chimed in.
"SHUT UP BOTH OF YOU!" He shouted at me and I decided to finally give in.
"Don't get tensed about your life. I will not let anything happen to any of you and please shut your good for nothing mouths." He fumed over us. Why is he so confusing?
The source of sound came closer and closer.
"Let's run guys." I whispered to which I got no reply.
We were going to hide behind a tree, at least I was going to, when a lady came in with something wrapped in her hands.
"Please wait all of you!" She exclaimed.
"That's it we are gonna die now. Remember Fahad you have torment me very much and I haven't taken my full revenge so my ghost is gonna haunt you. Even though I have known you for three months or something but still you bring out the worst of me. I hope you find someone who will get your brain on a right path."
"Yes Fahad, I am not a great sister but remember that you were never a great brother either." Uméma side-eyed her brother to which he glared at her. "Just kidding, lol."
"Shut up for once women!" Fahad whisper yelled.
"Please wait." The lady again shouted.
So we finally decided to turn back.
"What?" It came out as a whisper from my mouth.
"According to how you both are dressed and looking at your car. You both seem to be rich. So please do me favour. Please take care of this baby." She said and removed the corner of the blanket to reavel a cute little baby! How cute!
"Oh my God so cuteeee.." I squealed and went ahead to squeeze the baby's cheek. Uméma also did the same.
"What is it?" I questioned the lady.
"A baby?" She told me confused.
"I mean the gender."
"Oh. A girl." She replied with a smile.
"Are you kidding me Nada?! A lady comes and tell us to take care of the baby and you happily go and squeeze it's cheeks?!" He again opened his totally gross mouth.
"No sir. Please take care of it." The lady requested before I could say anything.
"If you couldn't afford taking the responsibilities then why did you plan the baby?" He spat her harshly.
"Fahad stop being so rude." I scolded him.
"Exactly." Uméma added.
"No ma'am this confusion is bound to happen. This baby is not mine. One week ago it was left outside my doorstep and I tried to take care of it. But I couldn't. I myself is very poor and could afford to have only one meal a day. What will I take care of this tiny little bundle of happiness. That's why please adopt it anyway you both will have a baby in future right so why not today?" She requested.
Wait a sec! Baby? With him?
"No!" I and Fahad both shouted at the same time and the lady flinched and patted the baby's head. Uméma snickered at it.
"Why?" She asked.
"We are not what you are thinking." Fahad tried to explain.
"So you both are not humans?" She said which resulted in me and Uméma unable to control our laughter. And Fahad glared at both of us.
"He means that we are not husband and wife or any kind of couple." I explained and realisation dawned at her face.
"Do you know who dropped this baby at your doorstep? And what is your name?" Fahad asked and she shook her head.
"I don't know and my name is Samaira and I live near the end of the street." She answered.
"Fine we'll take care of the baby." I chortled in joy taking the babygirl in my hands.
"What? Wait Nada! Why did you choose us? Is their any conspiracy behind?" Fahad interrogated her.
"No sir. I swear there is no such thing. Please take care of the baby. God will grant you it's reward. Thank you and AllahHafiz." She said and ran back despite Fahad shouting her name.
"Hi sweetheart how are you?" I cooed the baby.
"Awwww!" Uméma joined.
I smiled at how peacefully she was sleeping and looked up to see Fahad staring at me with confusion all over his face.
"Let's go." I said and started walking.
"Where am I stuck?!" I heard him saying exasperated.
"I heard that."
"It was meant to be."
And with that we started walking the road along with bickering with a princess in my arms. I am pretty sure that Fahad will not be ready so easily something is definitely cooking inside his head.
