Reborn Through Fire
Chapter 116 I Truly Lost My Family Kisa ignored his scornful expression and placed the bowl of chicken soup in front of him. âI made you some chicken soup; itâs good for you.â
Gilbert glanced at the creamy chicken soup before turning to her sharply, âStop beating around the bush. Tell me, what is it that you want from me?â
He refused to believe there was no hidden agenda behind her kindness to him.
âEverything nice that she had done for me had ulterior motives,â he thought.
Just as he had expected, she stopped putting on a facade. âI need your help with something.â Gilbert scoffed and did not respond.
Kisa quickly added, âItâs not something difficult. I was hoping that you could take me to the Case familyâs house sometime this week,â
Sharon has set a trap for me; thatâs why she wants me to attend Grandpaâs birthday banquet so badly.
As long as I get my hands on my motherâs belongings before the banquet, Sharon will have a hard time pulling off her plan. However, I wonât be able to step foot into the Case familyâs house on my own. Even if I do manage to get in, Sharon and her mother, Carolyn Marshall, would never hand over my motherâs belongings. I have no choice but to ask for Gilbertâs help,â Kisa thought.
For a moment, Gilbert was startled. Then, he sneered, âThe Case familyâs house is your house too.
Isnât it funny for you to ask me to take you to your own house? Or are you plotting something wicked?â
Kisa peered at Gilbert. He had an expression that was filled with ridicule and doubt. Finally, she lost it.
âAt this state, what else could I be plotting? Youâre right. I used to be a part of the Case family. But right now, do you think that I still have a family? Would the Case family still allow me to enter the house now that Iâve been in jail? My request is simple; Iâm only asking you to take me to the Case familyâs house.
Was it necessary for you to ridicule and scorn me?â Kisa yelled.
She felt bitter and wronged.
âI truly lost my family when my mother passed. I just wanted to retrieve my motherâs belongings. It doesnât even matter if Sharon made up said belongings to set me up; I just want to go take a look,â she thought.
Gilbert felt a twinge in his heart when he saw Kisaâs teary eyes. However, he kept his stoic expression.
âWhy are you going to the Case familyâs house?â
âTo retrieve my motherâs belongings,â Kisa answered truthfully.
This time, Gilbert did not give her a cynical response. He said coolly, âIâll take you there tomorrow if Iâm free. You can get lost now.â
Kisa did not want to remain in the room any longer, so she wiped away her tears and ran out.
Meanwhile, Gilbert stared at the chicken soup with a thoughtful expression.
âWhy does Kisa want to return to the Case familyâs house to retrieve her motherâs belongings out of the blue? Why didnât she do it when she was still staying in the house? Whatever. Iâll make an exception and believe her this time,â he thought.
The following day.
Kisa waited for Gilbertâs return.
When Gilbert finally returned, she quickly ran up to him, âAre you busy today? Have you eaten? Are you hungry?â Kisa asked him several questions in a row. However, the hurried expression on her face showed no signs of concern. Gilbert lightly scoffed and did not answer. Kisa could not decipher the meaning behind his actions. She quickly added, âIf you are not busy or hungry, letâs depart. We can go to the Case familyâs house right now.â Then, she started dragging Gilbert out of the house.
Kisa was so forceful that she ripped out the buttons on Gilbertâs suit. He yanked her hand away forcefully and huffed, âWhatâs with the rush? I didnât even get to take a sip of water!â When Kisa heard his words, she quickly ran back into the house and poured him a glass of water. She was so desperate she almost fed him the water.
g Kisa got into the car and twisted her fingers sadly.
âMother didnât leave me anything when she passed away. Was it because she had nothing to leave, or was she worried Iâd miss her when I saw her things? But I really do miss her. Thatâs why Iâll go take a look even if I have to go through fire. It doesnât matter if itâs something she used or a book she read,â
she thought.
While Gilbert was driving, he glanced at Kisa from the corner of his eyes. She was oddly quiet at the moment.
He scoffed icily, âYou better not be lying this time. If you are not going to the Case familyâs house to retrieve your motherâs belongings...â âThank you.â
This time, Kisa was genuinely thanking him.
Gilbert felt uncomfortable with her sincere gratitude.
He turned away awkwardly before scoffing icily again.
Then, he continued focusing on the road. The journey went on for a while before they arrived. Gilbert slowly drove the car into the Case familyâs courtyard.
