Reborn Through Fire
Chapter 1349 There Is Only One Way Carrie did not seem to notice how Mr. Mullen Sr. and Janeâs faces changed after listening to what she said. She then continued talking with disdain plastered across her face.
âWhat Iâm saying is that that woman is dumb. She was already sleeping with Anthony. Why didnât she make use of it to marry into the family? I mean, Aunty Jane became a part of the Mullen family because of the child she bore. That woman could have done the same. I donât get why she didnât just ask Aunty Jane for advice. Why would she kill herself just like that? Oh, I forgotâ¦â
Carrie was disdainful and proud. She seemed to have remembered something and sneered, âI forgot your friend was actually pregnant with Anthonyâs child, but Ms. Reyes outplayed her. Tsk, tsk. She was merely a plaything that could be replaced easily. No wonder she killed herself!â
Slam!
As soon as Carrie finished speaking, Mr. Mullen Sr. slammed the table unbearably. âYouâre quite the chatterbox, eh? If you donât want to eat, then get out!â
Carrieâs body shrank, and she immediately shut her mouth, no longer daring to say anything. The rest also lowered their heads and acted like it was not their problem. Mrs. Mullen Sr., on the other hand, calmly ate her food without a care in the world.
Kisa clenched her fists tightly, and the veins on the back of her hands popped out. Gilbert held her hand and stroked it gently with his thumb as if to comfort her. After a while, he sneered at Carrie and said, â Wow. You seem to know a lot about the tips and tricks of stepping into a wealthy family, Ms.
Carrie.â
Carrie was startled. She looked at Gilbert inexplicably while he gracefully added food to Kisaâs plate.
âSeeing that youâre so familiar with bearing children to step into a wealthy family, am I wrong to say that you tried every means to conceive Mr. Leonâs child so that you can be his wife?â
âPfft-â Lydia suddenly let out a muffled laugh. She then quickly lowered her head, trying to minimize her existence, knowing it had been impolite of her to laugh.
The expression on Carrieâs face looked extremely ugly. She did not have a comeback to refute Gilbertâs words.
Right at that moment, Mrs. Mullen Sr. said to her hatefully, âThe way you stepped into this family was not very glorious either, so you should keep your mouth shut and stop gossiping about other people!â
âI would have never let a woman like you marry into the family if you werenât pregnant with my sonâs child,â Mrs. Mullen Sr. thought. âYou even led him astray.â
Carrie bit her lip in anger. She did not dare make a sound.
Gilbert ate the soup slowly, not forgetting to fill Kisaâs plate with food throughout the process. Kisa did not eat much since her tummy was feeling weird, but she tried her best to push through it because Adrien was there. She did not want to expose herself to him in the slightest.
Another thing that worried her was Gilbert treating her very well, to the point of meticulously caring for her health. She noticed that Adrien had been observing their behavior at the dinner table and was afraid that he would use other means to drive a wedge between her and Gilbert if they continued.
She still could not figure out why he wanted her and Gilbert to hate each other. âWhat good does it do for him if Gilbert and I fought? Even if he really is David, thereâs no reason for him to wish harm upon us. Plus, itâs still pretty unlikely that heâs David.â
Kisa thought about it carefully. âThereâs only one way to find out Adrienâs ultimate goal, butâ¦â
She looked sideways at Gilbert with a complex feeling and a hint of uneasiness in her heart.
