Chapter 1386
Reborn Through Fire
Chapter 1386 A Wasteland With No Light of Days As Leon and Isaac heard about the mysterious mechanism that Mr. Mullen Sr. had just mentioned, their eyes widened in hesitation.
Isaac chimed in. âThe contraptions on the other side of that archwayâ¦â
âListen up boys,â Mr. Mullen Sr. warned, âas long as you donât act like wild monkeys, those contraptions wonât even know youâre there. So, after you tuck Mrs. Kooper in for a little nap, youâd better not go snooping around out of curiosity.â
Leon and Isaac eagerly nodded their heads in agreement and took Kisa toward the right archway.
Kisa pretended to resist. âWhat are you doing? Where are you taking me? Let go of me⦠Let go! Ahh!
There is a ghost inside. I wonât go in⦠I donât want to go in, ahhh!â Kisa shrieked and struggled vehemently at the entrance of the right archway. The basement was deep, and the ceiling was tall.
Kisaâs scream echoed in the grand hall and the echoes were even more haunting.
The women were on edge, picking up anything of value as they prepared to make a run for it. The basement was lavishly decorated with jewels, but they still could not shake the feeling of unease.
Wandering around the grand hall was one thing but venturing to the other side of the archways was out of the question, so they thought they had better head upstairs and admire the flowers instead.
Arthur felt like there was nothing fun to do and grabbed his painting, heading up. As soon as he left, the women who picked the gems also followed suit.
Mrs. Mullen Sr. looked around and, with a sarcastic smile, said to Mr. Mullen Sr., âYou built such a beautiful place, but you donât let your family live here. People who donât know any better might think youâre hiding a mistress here.â
It seems like Mrs. Mullen Sr. also suspects that Mr. Mullen Sr. is hiding a woman here,â Kisa thought to herself.
Mr. Mullen Sr. was noncommittal and, with a faint smile, said to Mrs. Mullen Sr., âIf you want to live in the basement, you can. After all, itâs big enough and you donât have to speculate anymore.â
âHmph! Like I really fancy living here. Even if this place is as luxurious and beautiful as it can be, it is still a wasteland that canât see the light of day!â Mrs. Mullen Sr. said contemptuously, then walked up the stairs with Amyâs help.
Mr. Mullen Sr. did not get angry, just signaled for Leon and Isaac to quickly take Kisa to her room to rest.
Kisa put up a half-hearted struggle, but the two men from the Mullen family eventually managed to drag her to the right archway. As they passed through, they were greeted by a courtyard-like path made of cobblestones and surrounded by colorful flowers and greenery. There was a big tree and a hot spring pool next to it. The only thing missing was a view of the sky, as a dazzling crystal chandelier took its place. The crystal lights shimmered and reflected on the cobblestone path.
Further down the path were several rooms with a completely distinct style from the grand hall. If the hall was opulent in the European style, then these rooms were in the classical Chinese style. The rooms were lined up in a row, and it seemed like there was land behind them, but Leon and Isaac were wary of the contraptions and did not dare to go any further. They held Kisa in check and were about to follow Mr Mullen Sr.âs orders and lock her up in the first room.
Suddenly, Isaac turned to Leon and asked, âHey bro, Dad built a house down here thatâs even more luxurious than the one we live in upstairs. Whatâs that all about?â
âWho knows? Plus, Dad seems to really like this place and comes here often,â replied Leon.
âThat makes little sense. Itâs so big and empty. Living here all by himself would be boring. Unless heâs hiding a bunch of beauties, Isaac said with a mischievous glint in his eye as he craned his neck and looked around, trying to spot a beautyâ
âYou wonât find any beauties even if they are kept here. This place is full of contraptions, and we canât just wander around,â grumbled Leon.
âWho cares about contraptions?â Isaac smirked, his gaze settling on Kisa.
