Chapter 11:.

In the RK Group...

Since RK had acquired Mr. Paul’s company, it was now officially part of the RK Group and had been rebranded under its new name. When Stella arrived at the office, a woman in her 30s approached.

She looked very professional, dressed in a light blue blouse, black skirt and matching blazer. She wore black-rimmed glasses and high heels.

“Hello, I’m Elena Wilson, head of the RK Group’s project department,” the woman introduced herself. “From now on, I’ll be taking over your work here.” She handed Stella a stack of files.

“Before you only worked for Mr. Paul, and you know it’s one company. But the RK Group is vast and has numerous businesses.

These are the files related to the history and standards of the RK Group. Go through them thoroughly. Once you have finished, I will review your knowledge.”

Stella looked at the stack of files in her hands and immediately said, “Ms. Wilson, I think there is a misunderstanding. I don’t work here. I have been temporarily transferred for the acquisition project. I am stationed in France and will return there once the project is completed.”

Here I had no office, no desk, not even a chair, and I certainly didn’t want to work under RK in this city.

Adjusting her glasses, Elena replied in a stern tone, “Miss Richards, it’s not up to you to decide where you want to stay. You are not going back to France. You are going to work here in the future.

“But Mr. Paul assured me that I would leave later...”

“Mr. Paul was Mr. Paul, and Mr. RK is RK,” Elena cut her off. “Your boss is now Mr. RK, not Mr. Paul. Mr. RK wants you to stay and work in X-City. It’s not easy for anyone to get a position with the RK Group. Many go through rigorous testing.

You are here only because of your good performance in the acquisition project. That’s why Mr. RK had a good impression of you and offered you this opportunity.

You should appreciate it and not be so ungrateful.”

Elena’s tone was harsh. “Thank her”? Did they expect her to be grateful to this man for keeping her here?

Stella thought in her heart and cursed that man. “Miss Elena, I would like to formally request a transfer back to the French department.

I am more familiar with that place.” Stella was not convinced.

So what if this man wanted her to stay? She didn’t want to stay.

How could he decide everything in her life? Six years ago, he had decided for her, and now again? She wouldn’t let him do this again.

Besides, if she stayed here, she would have to see his face every day when he came to work, and she would have to hide her baby from him forever.

In the face of all these problems, it was better for her to live quietly as before.

Elena pounded on the table, her voice icy. “Stella Richards! Do you think you can do whatever you feel like and go back to France as you please?

Do you think this company belongs to your family? If Mr. RK wants you to stay here and work in X-City, then you have to work in X-City.”

“If you’re not convinced, take it up with Mr. RK yourself, I’m not getting involved in this matter.”

Should she confront RK? RK was the one who arranged for her to handle Stella’s affairs.

How could she dare to go against her boss’s orders just because of an employee? She didn’t want to lose her job.

Elena softened, though her tone remained firm. “Let me give you some advice. Stay here. As long as Mr. RK wants you in X City, you’re not going back to France.

Come with me to collect your things. Mr. RK has arranged your seat with Emily. When you have collected your belongings, you can move to your new place of work.”

Stella didn’t like the man controlling her, but what choice did she have? If she were alone, she could have quit her job, but now?

She had her baby and she had to work for him.

“Stella, you can do it,” she motivated herself in her heart.

After hearing Emily’s name, she felt a little comfort in her heart. But then she thought, why had that man placed her seat next to Emily?

Was it intentional or not? If it was intentional, how did he know she and Emily were friends? No one knew what would happen to her when she was in France for six years?

“Maybe it was a coincidence because the seat next to Emily was empty,” Stella thought, trying to dismiss her concern.

But when she arrived at her new workplace, she saw a woman about her age gathering her things next to Emily and preparing to leave.

“Lilly, we will continue to work together in the future,” Emily said bidding her farewell.

Stella saw it and thought, “Maybe it’s about the staff reshuffle that Ms. Wilson just mentioned, and she was one of those affected.” Then she heard Lilly’s response.....

“It’s all right. I’m just moving into line behind you. We can still have lunch together.”

“We’ve been working together for the last year. I don’t know which of the leaders wants to change your seat – that damn man!”

Emily said.

From their conversation, Stella realized that RK had deliberately arranged for her to sit next to Emily. But why?

Did he know that she and Emily were friends from before? But how was that possible?

“Is it because he left her last night and knew her residence?”

Did you investigate her and did you know they were friends? Did you investigate her for six years or just last night? But that’s not the question.

“If RK had investigated his residence, then did he also know about Adrian...?”

Suddenly, Stella felt a chill. If Stella had known that he would investigate her after he left her, she could have sworn she would have rather died on the road last night than let that man take her home!

“Ahhh... It’s you, Stella – you’re the one who moved here!”

Emily exclaimed as she noticed Stella. She hurried to take the folders from Stella’s hands. “From now on, we’ll see each other every day, not just in the evenings. We’ll also be working together.”

Stella merely smiled, but did not answer.

Shortly thereafter, Elena returned to the office and announced, “Today is the first day of Mr. RK’s acquisition of the company.

Tonight we are having a party, and everyone should be there. Mr. RK will also be there.”
