Chapter 53
Love After Divorce by BELLA
Chapter 53:.
The more Stella tried to distance herself from this man, the more she kept running into him. At work, she had no choice but to tolerate him, but now, when she was about to leave, he still wouldnât let her go! It was clear that he was doing it on purpose.
But those who worked closely with RK were naturally different. Alex stood in front of her, not moving. âMiss Richard, please donât make things difficult for me. Iâm only carrying out the presidentâs orders.â
Stella, increasingly frustrated, blurted out: âThere are so many people in the secretariat! Why did you choose me? I just arrived in the country and Iâve only been in the office for a few days. I donât even know most of the work â why should I go?â
At noon, this man canceled her lunch break and docked half of her pay. Now, as she was about to leave work, he still didnât want to let her go!
Alex, still firm, replied, âMiss Richard, if the president asked you to go, then you have to go. Besides, the president said this will help you understand his habits in no time.â
Stella thought it was ridiculous. To learn his habits? In a short time? She had been with him for three years and knew his habits inside out. Why did she have to start learning them all over again?
Stella rolled her eyes.
Alex continued, âMiss Richard, it is not a waste of time to work overtime. Didnât the president dock your salary earlier? He said that if you attended the meeting with him, you would get your salary back.â
Stella was not interested in anything else, but the mention of her salary caught her attention. She had been upset ever since her paycheck was docked for no reason at noon. Now that she had a chance to get it back, of course she wanted to!
However, Stella kept grumbling, âThe lunch break deduction wasnât my fault! Why did everyone else get a break and I didnât?â
Besides, she knew that this man was pulling her leg. In the past, he couldnât stand to see her happy, and now he wouldnât even let her have lunch! And if that wasnât enough, he also wanted to take time away from her after work!
This man was infuriating. Did the president have too much time on his hands? Was he sitting around all day thinking of ways to make his life miserable? Didnât he have a child at home? Didnât he have to go home early to take care of the child?
Alex placed a piece of paper on the table in front of her. âMiss Richard, this is the dress the president has asked you to wear when you accompany him tonight.â

Did he have a problem with her clothes? She was just his secretary at a meeting, why did she care so much?
Before leaving, Alex reminded her, âMiss Richard, remember to wait for him in the office. The president does not like to be disturbed when he is working.â
Stella was speechless. It was all about the president. Like father, like son â did he think she wanted to see him?
But in the end, Stella reluctantly agreed. She wanted to refuse, but the thought of getting her paycheck back prevented her from doing so. Losing half a dayâs pay wasnât worth it. For one thing, her salary wasnât very high, and if they docked it even more, she figured sheâd have to live on air for the next month.
Stella opened the paper bag on the table. Inside was the dress, light sea green, sleeveless and knee-length. When she saw the brand name, she realized it was Chanel. Stella was surprised.
This man was unexpectedly generous. He asked a secretary to accompany him to a meeting and gave her an expensive dress.
Did all the women in the secretaryâs office receive clothes from him?
Stella went to change and returned to her seat. It was late and everyone had gone to work. She was the only one sitting there, feeling a little lonely.
Stella pulled out her phone, intending to call Tristan when his call came in first....
A soft voice came from the other end. âStella, I just finished my operation and am on my way to your company to pick you up.â
Stella quickly replied, âNo need, no need! I have to work overtime tonight, so Iâm afraid I canât go out with you.â
It wasnât the first time he had canceled his plans. Before, when they lived in the Richard family home, Tristan used to go out with Stella on weekends.
After all, at home, she felt there were too many eyes on them. As for Tristan, he preferred to spend time alone with her. Every weekend, he would find fun places for them to visit together. But Stella never fully understood her brotherâs intentions. Whenever her friends asked her out, Stella, who loved to make friends, would cancel her plans.
He often said, âBrother Tristan, we see each other every day. It doesnât matter if we miss a day.â He often used this excuse to disengage from him.
Over the years, Tristan had gotten used to it. But this was his first date since sheâd returned.... âIâm sorry...â
After waiting a while without hearing a response, Stella thought he was angry and awkwardly apologized.
His tone reminded Tristan of the past.
Every time Stella made a mistake, she apologized to him like this. Tristan smiled bitterly. âItâs all right. Iâm not angry. Iâll pick up dinner and bring it to you at the office. You shouldnât go hungry just because youâre working overtime.â In fact, he had an operation tonight, but he canceled it because he wanted to go out with Stella.
Tonight, it looked like they would both be working overtime. He hadnât expected to be the one most willing to sacrifice for this relationship. Tristan smiled helplessly.
As a doctor, he could spend all day in the operating room. He wasnât like others who only worked eight hours. But there were many things he was willing to give up for Stella.
Stella turned it down again, awkwardly, âNo need. Iâve already had dinner with my colleagues.â
Stella hesitated, but she still didnât want to tell him that she was going out with RK. After all, Sophia was Tristanâs sister. Even if there was nothing going on between her and RK, talking about these things always carried some implications.
Besides, it was just a misunderstanding....
There was a brief silence on the other end of the phone....
Tristan finally said, âWhen do you finish work? Iâll come pick you up.â
Stella didnât know what to answer.
He had already missed his appointment and had turned down her offer to bring him dinner. Now she had to turn him down again.
âIâm not sure when Iâll be done. No need to pick me up; Iâll go home alone.â said Stella awkwardly.
There was silence on the other end of the phone. Looking at her phone, Stella knew he hadnât hung up: he was still listening.
Stella sensed that Tristan was angry....
Putting everything aside, Stella thought of Tristan as if he were her brother and felt she should comfort him.
After all, it was he who had made the plans.
âTristan... Donât be angry! Iâll buy you dinner next time! Iâm sorry...â
For some reason, every time she talked to him, she felt like she was her old self again. Then, when she did something wrong, she would act like a spoiled child and Tristan would always forgive her.
Now, talking to him, she couldnât help but go back to being that little girl, knowing that her older brother would forgive her.
Indeed, Tristan responded.
Stella sighed in relief. âThank you! I knew youâd forgive me...â.
âStella!â
Stella didnât even finish the sentence when she heard a deep, cold voice behind her.
The lights in the office were dim and cast long shadows on the tall figure looming behind her.
On the floor, the shadow stretched out like a demon that stalks people at night. It was terrifying, especially when he called her name: his voice was cold and sinister, and it sent shivers down her spine.
The sound of his leather shoes echoed loudly as he stepped on the marble floor, the office was deserted after hours.
Stella gripped her phone tightly. âTristan, weâll talk later. I have to work. Iâm hanging up.â
After saying a quick goodbye, Stella ended the call. She feared that the man behind her would devour her the next second.
