Chapter 25

The Truth that sets us free

oneshots (Jikook)

Jungkook had always been Minhyuk's closest friend since childhood. They grew up together, shared secrets, and were practically inseparable until Jungkook decided to study abroad. It had been years since Jimin last saw Jungkook, and though he’d heard stories about him from Minhyuk, Jimin had never truly gotten to know the man himself.

When Minhyuk told Jimin that Jungkook was returning to Korea after years of studying and working abroad, Jimin was excited. He had heard so much about Jungkook and was eager to finally meet him in person. But little did Jimin know that Jungkook’s return would unravel the very fabric of his seemingly perfect life.

Jungkook arrived late one evening, and when Jimin opened the door, he was greeted by a tall, strikingly handsome man with dark, piercing eyes. Jungkook was everything Jimin had imagined and more—confident, with an aura that commanded attention.

"Jimin, right? It’s good to finally meet you," Jungkook said with a warm smile as he stepped inside.

Jimin smiled back, a little nervous. "Yes, and it's good to meet you too. Minhyuk's told me so much about you."

"Likewise," Jungkook replied, his gaze lingering on Jimin for a moment before shifting to the house. "This place is beautiful."

"Thank you," Jimin said, leading Jungkook to the living room. "Minhyuk should be home soon. He’s just finishing up at work."

Jungkook nodded, but there was something in his eyes that Jimin couldn’t quite place—something that made his heart flutter, just a little.

Over the next few days, Jungkook settled into their home comfortably. He and Minhyuk spent a lot of time together, catching up on the years they’d spent apart. Jimin couldn’t help but notice how close they were, the ease with which they communicated, and the way they seemed to understand each other without words. It made him feel a little left out, but he brushed it off. After all, they were best friends.

However, as days turned into weeks, Jimin started noticing things that didn’t quite add up. Minhyuk was coming home late more often, his phone buzzing with messages that he would quickly hide from Jimin’s view. There were times when Minhyuk would leave the room to take a call, his voice hushed, his demeanor tense. Jimin tried to ignore it, tried to convince himself that he was just being paranoid. But the seeds of doubt had already been planted in his mind.

It wasn’t until one evening, when Jungkook approached him, that Jimin's suspicions were confirmed.

“Jimin, can we talk?” Jungkook asked, his voice serious, his expression more so.

“Of course,” Jimin replied, though a sense of unease settled in his stomach.

They sat down in the living room, and Jungkook took a deep breath before speaking. “Jimin, I don’t know how to say this, and I’m really sorry that I’m the one who has to tell you, but… I’ve noticed something since I got here, and I can’t just keep quiet about it.”

Jimin felt his heart begin to race. “What is it?”

Jungkook looked him straight in the eye, his gaze unwavering. “Minhyuk… he’s been cheating on you.”

The words hit Jimin like a freight train. For a moment, he couldn’t breathe. “What… what do you mean?” he stammered, his mind struggling to process the information.

“I’ve seen the messages, the way he acts when he thinks no one’s watching. He’s been seeing someone else, Jimin. I’m so sorry.”

Jimin’s world shattered in an instant. He had given Minhyuk everything, and this was how he was repaid? Betrayal. Lies. Jimin felt the tears well up in his eyes, but he refused to let them fall. He couldn’t break down now, not in front of Jungkook.

“I… I can’t believe this,” Jimin whispered, his voice shaking. “Why didn’t I see it?”

Jungkook reached out, gently placing a hand on Jimin’s shoulder. “It’s not your fault, Jimin. People like Minhyuk, they’re good at hiding things. They know how to manipulate others into believing what they want them to believe.”

Jimin closed his eyes, willing the tears to stay back. He had to be strong. But even as he tried to hold it together, he felt the weight of the truth crushing him.

“What do I do now?” Jimin asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

Jungkook hesitated for a moment before speaking. “You deserve better, Jimin. You deserve someone who loves you for who you are, someone who wouldn’t betray you like this. I know it’s not my place to say, but… if it were me, I would leave him.”

Jimin opened his eyes and looked at Jungkook. There was sincerity in his words, a kindness that Jimin hadn’t expected. And for the first time since hearing the news, Jimin felt a small flicker of hope.

In the days that followed, Jimin found himself leaning on Jungkook more and more. Minhyuk was often away, too preoccupied with his own life to notice the growing bond between Jimin and his best friend. Jungkook was there for Jimin in ways Minhyuk never had been—offering support, comfort, and a listening ear whenever Jimin needed to talk.

Jimin didn’t know when it happened, but somewhere along the line, his feelings for Jungkook began to change. At first, it was just a sense of comfort, a safety net that he could rely on during the most difficult time of his life. But as time went on, that comfort grew into something deeper, something he hadn’t felt in a long time—love.

Jungkook, too, found himself drawn to Jimin in ways he hadn’t anticipated. Jimin was everything Jungkook admired in a person—kind, compassionate, and selfless. He had always known Jimin was special, but seeing him up close, seeing his vulnerability and strength, made Jungkook fall for him even harder.

But despite their growing feelings for each other, both Jimin and Jungkook were hesitant to act on them. Jimin was still married to Minhyuk, and though his heart was breaking, he couldn’t bring himself to betray the vows he had taken. And Jungkook, for all his feelings, didn’t want to cause Jimin any more pain than he had already endured.

It wasn’t until one fateful evening, when Jimin’s emotions finally overwhelmed him, that everything changed.

They were sitting on the couch, the TV playing softly in the background, but neither of them was paying attention. Jimin was lost in thought, his mind a whirlwind of emotions. Jungkook noticed the sadness in Jimin’s eyes and reached out to gently hold his hand.

“Jimin,” Jungkook said softly, “you don’t have to go through this alone. I’m here for you.”

Jimin looked at Jungkook, his heart aching with a mix of emotions he couldn’t quite put into words. Before he knew what he was doing, he leaned in, pressing his lips against Jungkook’s in a desperate, heartfelt kiss.

For a moment, Jungkook was stunned, but then he kissed Jimin back, his hand coming up to cup Jimin’s cheek. The kiss was tender, filled with all the unspoken feelings they had kept hidden for so long.

When they finally pulled away, both were breathless, their eyes locked on each other. There was no denying it now—they were in love.

“I’m sorry,” Jimin whispered, tears slipping down his cheeks. “I didn’t mean to—”

But Jungkook cut him off, pulling him into a tight embrace. “Don’t apologize, Jimin. I love you.”

Jimin’s breath hitched at the confession. He had been so afraid of falling in love again, so afraid of being hurt. But with Jungkook, it felt different—safe, genuine, real.

“I love you too,” Jimin whispered, burying his face in Jungkook’s chest.

With their feelings finally out in the open, Jimin and Jungkook found themselves in uncharted territory. They knew they couldn’t continue like this, living in secret, hiding their love from the world. It wasn’t fair to either of them, and it wasn’t the life they wanted to build together.

Jimin knew what he had to do, even if the thought of it terrified him. He had to confront Minhyuk and end their marriage. It wasn’t just about what he had discovered; it was about reclaiming his own happiness and giving himself the chance to be with someone who truly loved him.

The next evening, when Minhyuk finally came home, Jimin was waiting for him in the living room. Jungkook had gone out for a walk, giving Jimin the space he needed for this difficult conversation. The tension in the air was palpable as Minhyuk entered, immediately sensing that something was off.

“Jimin, what’s going on?” Minhyuk asked, trying to mask his discomfort with a forced smile.

Jimin took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. “We need to talk, Minhyuk.”

Minhyuk’s smile faltered, and he took a seat across from Jimin. “Is everything okay?”

Jimin looked into Minhyuk’s eyes, searching for the man he had once loved so deeply. But all he saw now was a stranger, someone who had betrayed him in the worst possible way.

“No, everything is not okay,” Jimin replied, his voice steady despite the turmoil inside. “I know about the affair, Minhyuk. I know you’ve been cheating on me.”

Minhyuk’s face went pale, and for a moment, he was at a loss for words. “Jimin, I—”

“Don’t,” Jimin interrupted, holding up a hand. “Don’t lie to me. I’ve seen the messages, I’ve seen the signs. You can’t deny it anymore.”

Minhyuk looked down at his hands, guilt written all over his face. “I’m sorry, Jimin. I never meant to hurt you.”

Jimin shook his head, tears welling up in his eyes. “You didn’t just hurt me, Minhyuk. You broke my trust, you shattered everything we had. I loved you, and this is how you repay me?”

“I was weak,” Minhyuk said, his voice barely a whisper. “I didn’t know how to handle it, how to talk to you about what I was feeling. I know that’s no excuse, but… I’m sorry.”

Jimin closed his eyes, letting the tears fall. He had imagined this moment so many times in his head, but now that it was happening, it felt even more painful than he had anticipated.

“I can’t do this anymore, Minhyuk,” Jimin said, opening his eyes to look at his husband one last time. “I’m filing for divorce.”

Minhyuk’s head snapped up, his eyes wide with shock. “Jimin, please don’t—”

“It’s over, Minhyuk,” Jimin said firmly. “I deserve better than this. I deserve to be with someone who loves me and respects me.”

Minhyuk’s shoulders slumped in defeat, and he nodded, tears filling his own eyes. “I understand.”

There was nothing more to say. Jimin stood up, feeling a strange sense of relief wash over him. It was done. The chapter of his life with Minhyuk was over, and now it was time to move on.

The weeks that followed were a whirlwind of emotions for Jimin. The divorce proceedings were painful, but with Jungkook by his side, he found the strength to get through it. Minhyuk didn’t fight the divorce; he knew there was no point. He moved out of their home, leaving Jimin with the space to heal and start anew.

Jungkook was Jimin’s rock during this time. He was patient, understanding, and never pushed Jimin to move faster than he was ready for. Their love blossomed slowly, naturally, as they spent more time together, discovering the little things that made them perfect for each other.

One evening, as they were sitting on the porch of the house, watching the sunset, Jimin turned to Jungkook with a soft smile.

“You know,” Jimin began, “I never thought I’d find love again. After everything that happened, I was so scared of getting hurt.”

Jungkook reached out, taking Jimin’s hand in his. “I understand. I was scared too. But I knew from the moment I met you that you were worth the risk.”

Jimin’s heart swelled with affection, and he leaned in to rest his head on Jungkook’s shoulder. “Thank you for being there for me, Jungkook. I don’t know how I would have made it through all of this without you.”

“You don’t have to thank me,” Jungkook replied, kissing the top of Jimin’s head. “I love you, Jimin, and I’ll always be here for you.”

Jimin smiled, feeling a warmth spread through his chest. For the first time in a long time, he felt truly happy—happy in a way that was real, not just an illusion.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky with hues of pink and orange, Jimin knew that this was just the beginning of something beautiful. He and Jungkook had a long road ahead of them, but they would walk it together, hand in hand.

And as they sat there, wrapped in each other’s embrace, Jimin knew that no matter what challenges they faced, their love would see them through. Because this time, it was real. This time, it was forever.

Years passed, and Jimin and Jungkook built a life together filled with love, laughter, and happiness. They traveled the world, experienced new things, and made countless memories that they would cherish forever.

They eventually moved into a new home, one that they picked out together—a place where they could start fresh, free from the shadows of the past. Their love grew stronger with each passing day, and soon enough, they couldn’t imagine a life without each other.

One day, on a beautiful spring morning, Jungkook surprised Jimin with a small, intimate proposal in their garden—a place that had become their sanctuary. With tears of joy streaming down his face, Jimin said yes, and they were married in a ceremony surrounded by their closest friends and family.

Their wedding was simple, but it was perfect. As they exchanged vows, promising to love and cherish each other for the rest of their lives, Jimin knew that he had finally found the happiness he had always longed for. He had found it in Jungkook, the man who had been there for him when he needed it most, the man who had shown him what true love really was.

And as they danced together under the stars that night, Jimin realized that sometimes, life had a way of leading you to where you were meant to be. Even if the journey was difficult, even if it was filled with pain and heartache, it was all worth it in the end.

Because in Jungkook’s arms, Jimin had found his forever—a love that was honest, pure, and unwavering.

A love that would last a lifetime.
