Chapter 3

unrequited love and redemption

oneshots (Jikook)

Jeon Jungkook always prided himself on being strong, independent, and a little distant. Despite his tough exterior, he had a tight-knit group of friends: RM, Jin, Suga, Hoseok, and Taehyung. Their bond was unbreakable, or so it seemed.

Then came Park Jimin. He was a transfer student, full of energy and kindness, with a smile that could light up the darkest room. The moment Jimin joined their group, everyone adored him. Everyone except Jungkook.

From the outset, Jungkook couldn't stand Jimin. It wasn't that Jimin did anything wrong; in fact, Jimin was always the first to offer help, the first to laugh at their jokes, and the last to leave when anyone needed support. But for some inexplicable reason, Jimin's very presence irritated Jungkook.

Jungkook's disdain manifested in subtle ways at first. He'd ignore Jimin's greetings, refuse to acknowledge his ideas, and roll his eyes whenever Jimin spoke. It wasn't long before the subtle turned into outright cruelty. He'd snap at Jimin over trivial matters, make sarcastic remarks, and on one occasion, he even humiliated Jimin in front of their friends.

The group noticed, of course. RM, the leader, tried to talk to Jungkook about his behavior. "Why do you treat Jimin like that? He's done nothing but be kind to you."

Jungkook shrugged it off, unable to articulate his feelings. "I just don't like him."

Jimin, on the other hand, tried his best to endure Jungkook's hostility. He didn't want to cause trouble within the group and hoped that, in time, Jungkook would come around.

As months passed, Jungkook's treatment of Jimin only worsened. The breaking point came during a group project for their college festival. They were tasked with organizing a performance, and Jimin was in charge of choreography. He worked tirelessly, putting his heart and soul into it.

On the day of their first full rehearsal, Jungkook arrived late, clearly uninterested. When Jimin kindly reminded him of the steps, Jungkook snapped.

"Why don't you just do it yourself if you think you're so perfect?" he yelled, pushing Jimin roughly.

Jimin stumbled, hurt and embarrassed. That night, he made a decision. He couldn't keep pretending everything was fine. He couldn't keep getting hurt.

The next day, Jimin stopped interacting with Jungkook. He avoided him whenever possible, spoke only when necessary, and even then, his words were brief and polite. It was as if he had built an invisible wall around himself, protecting his heart from further pain.

Their friends noticed the change immediately. Hoseok, ever the ray of sunshine, tried to lighten the mood. "Come on, guys, let's not fight. We're a team."

But it was no use. The rift between Jimin and Jungkook grew wider with each passing day.

It wasn't until Jimin's absence from his life became painfully obvious that Jungkook began to understand his own feelings. He missed Jimin's laughter, his warmth, and his unwavering kindness. The realization hit him hard: he had been pushing Jimin away because he was afraid of his own emotions. He was afraid of how much he cared.

Confused and tormented, Jungkook sought advice from Suga, the quiet observer of the group. Suga had a knack for understanding people, often seeing what others couldn't.

"I don't know what's wrong with me," Jungkook confessed, frustration evident in his voice. "I can't stop thinking about him."

Suga sighed, his gaze steady. "You're in love with him, Jungkook. And you've been hurting him because you couldn't handle it."

Jungkook's heart sank. Love? How could he have been so blind? He had been so consumed by his own fears and insecurities that he had driven away the one person who mattered most.

Determined to make things right, Jungkook sought out Jimin. It wasn't easy. Jimin had built walls, and Jungkook knew he had to break through them carefully.

He found Jimin practicing alone in the dance studio, the place where they had once been a team. Jimin looked up, surprise flickering in his eyes before he quickly masked it.

"What do you want, Jungkook?" His voice was cold, distant.

Jungkook took a deep breath, stepping forward. "I need to talk to you. I know I've been awful to you, and I can't apologize enough for the pain I've caused."

Jimin's expression softened, but his guard was still up. "Why now, Jungkook?"

"Because I realized something," Jungkook said, his voice trembling with sincerity. "I've been pushing you away because I was afraid. Afraid of how much I care about you. I know I've hurt you, and I don't expect you to forgive me easily, but I want to make it right. I want to be better, for you."

Tears welled up in Jimin's eyes. He had longed to hear those words, but the wounds were still fresh. "You really hurt me, Jungkook. I don't know if I can just forget that."

"I don't expect you to," Jungkook replied, his own eyes glistening. "But please, give me a chance to show you that I can change. That I can be the person you deserve.

It was a slow process, but Jimin decided to give Jungkook a chance. They started with small steps, rebuilding trust bit by bit. Jungkook showed his commitment by being there for Jimin, supporting him in everything he did. He listened, really listened, and began to understand the depth of Jimin's passion and kindness.

Their friends noticed the change, the tension slowly easing from their group. RM, Jin, Hoseok, and Taehyung rallied around them, offering support and encouragement. Even Suga, with his quiet wisdom, offered words of comfort.

One evening, after a particularly grueling practice, Jungkook found Jimin sitting alone, staring out at the night sky. He sat beside him, their shoulders barely touching.

"Thank you for giving me another chance," Jungkook said softly.

Jimin smiled, a genuine, warm smile that made Jungkook's heart ache with love. "Thank you for proving that you deserve it."

As they sat there, under the stars, Jungkook took Jimin's hand in his, a silent promise of love and redemption. It wouldn't be easy, and there would be complications along the way, but for the first time, they faced the future together.

Years later, Jungkook and Jimin stood side by side, their bond stronger than ever. They had faced challenges, doubts, and fears, but their love had only grown deeper. Surrounded by their friends, who had become their family, they knew that whatever the future held, they would face it together.

Love, after all, wasn't about perfection. It was about finding someone who accepted you, flaws and all, and choosing to stay, to fight, and to love, every single day.

And in each other's arms, Jungkook and Jimin found the happiness they had once thought impossible.
